Ok, if it's easy to process files for both sites, I might test my luck with both of them! If I do, I'll post results here.

@vilainecrevette, I don't really understand your link. Redirects to CanStockPhoto subforum again.

Read this about Canstockphoto before :
http://www.microstockgroup.com/canstockphoto-com/partners-of-CanStockPhoto/msg365185/#msg365185
I closed my account last week with them for that.
I have nothing wrong to say with Photodune for the moment but very low earning.
But do you really need to replace DP? I am learning it's better to stay with few stock to avoid problems for few money

The link just leads to the CanStockPhoto subforum?

And thanks to everyone for answers. For those of you who report good earnings with CanStockPhoto: are your portfolios vectors or photos?

Also, PD submitting process is painful? I have a whole portfolio to upload, so I'm wondering how painful exactly? iStock painful? DT painful?

General Stock Discussion / Re: How come self-hosted fell so low?
« on: February 18, 2014, 19:18 »
Yeah, it didn't get enough votes to be listed. The number may still be high, but it needs 50 votes I believe to get a number on the charts.
So... (some) people paid for their domain name and hosting, went through all the trouble of setting up the site and then shut it down after a couple of months. It seems unlikely.

My guess is that the results aren't as good and that people don't report zero sales. But that seems strange, why do that?

I almost never post in any of the categories - and it's not because I have zero sales :) Voluntary polls are just that and you can't do more than get a general idea of what's up from looking at this one

But I guess other people are not like you.

The number of "self-hosted" contributors didn't fall. The number of ones reporting did.

I remember a couple of months ago it had a score of 23.2 or something, taking the third place. Now the score isn't even listed. Can anyone explain what happened, as I didn't really follow the Symbio discussion thoroughly?

I'm thinking of deactivating my account on DP (we all know why) and I'm looking into other options.

I submit to SS, IS (here and there), FT, DT, Alamy, P5 and BS. I stopped uploading to BS because the results from that agency are bs for me, in contrast to what the poll here says. It's not even worth to push images there for me.

Anyway, I'm wondering about canstock and photodune. Are they good earners for you, is there any particular image type that goes well on those agencies, as compared to other agencies? They are all rated lower than BS, but then again, so are DP and P5, and I earn a lot more on those agencies, then on BS. So maybe expanding would be a good idea.

Any tips, stories from your own experience? Where is the upload process the easiest (I don't wish to lose time uploading to an agency which will not give results)?

Thanks

Since nobody has gotten a custom response and they are being silent, they are telling us to fk off.  If you don't like it, leave.  To be fair they "may" be trying to work things out with their resellers before crafting a response. How long does that take, though? Two weeks? Two months? Until then there is no serious, constructive dialog on their part, probably because they have the terms (law) on their side.
That's true.

I guess there are only two ways we as a community and individuals can handle this:

1) Keep contacting them so they know the magnitude of the problem and fix it asap.
2) Deactivation of accounts, be it as individuals or like a group (like D-day or something). March 1st sounds like a good date.

558
All this sounds incredibly bad. Anb, btw, what happens if this partner agency sell one photo mre than one time? Do you just get the first 0.30?

Maybe I should thing of buying subscriptons from DP and start my own "reselling" site...
Actually a great idea.

Sent them an e-mail to remove me from this program and I encourage everyone to do the same.

« on: February 06, 2014, 13:43 »
Percentages mean nothing in this case.

When I say 2% you still know nothing. I could well make 4000$ dollar per month or 50$.
You don't have to answer to my question if you think it doesn't makes sense. It's not tailored towards what you think should be asked, but what I'm interested in.

If you have a different question, you have a "new post" button and fire away.

« on: February 06, 2014, 12:35 »
I don't know if we're allowed to disclose absolute numbers, but it should be ok to talk in percentages.

I earn around 5% from referred contributors. Not too much, but still enough to surpass normal bigstock earnings by 400%, lol (sometimes even dreamstime).

How about you?

They can and do not produce any of the assets they sell themselves and they could not have become successful or continue to be successful with out our assets.
Ummm... Jon Oringer founded Shutterstock to sell his own images.  ???

Anyway, what does it mean to manage assets fairly and responsibly? For me, it's whatever works for them (but I like contributor-neutrality), and for some, it's preferential treatment for older microstockers.

563
Does anyone know what are the exact criteria when they transfer you to a business account. I see 2500 mentioned, is this official?

And just to confirm - making a business account on PayPal is free and there are no additional charges?

What about if the vast majority of old contributors who made you what you are today are collateral damage. Wouldn't be a bit of morality in the * business?
I know it is just business, but as the things going, their aim is to maximise their overall profit taking away ALL from us. It is not only me or a few guys. I wish it was like that, because it would mean that I did something wrong that it can be improved.
What morality?

The exact reason I adore microstock is that it is NEUTRAL. It doesn't matter if you joined 6 weeks or 6 years ago. Make a good image and it will sell. If anything, there is a slight disbalance skewed in favor of older contributors, only because their files already gathered some downloads and have priority in the search algorithm. It seems that SS is working on that imbalance and that's ok with me, since it makes the playing field even more neutral.

And also, if the algorithm changes one day so it moves away from neutrality, but impacts SS's earnings in a positive way (and mine in negative), I would understand. They are trying to maximize profits. They have no obligation towards me nor do they owe me anything. If I think I'm treated unfair, I will quit the agency. But talking about morals and business ethics in this contexts is a bit, you know, unnecessary.

My best selling images are either ultra-specific (with just a couple of contributors having access to places where they could takes photos of that subject) or totally generic isolated on white things which can be used in a multitude of contexts.

Edit: Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. I do photography, but I started as a web designer, so I'm pretty ok with photoshop. Most of the bestsellers have nothing to do with photography whatsoever.

(also, I'm talking about shutterstock, but as SS earnings comprise around 75% of my total earnings, I didn't feel the need to take the effort and check the other sites)

Better than Dec '13, glad to see a recovery. Not a BME, but I'm still pleased.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 2013 Year Overview
« on: January 03, 2014, 16:34 »
Earnings +62% compared to 2012
Portfolio +184% compared to 2012

(Portfolio increase occurred at the end of the year, in September and October, with other months dormant)

General Stock Discussion / Re: December 2013 earnings
« on: January 03, 2014, 16:28 »
~40% drop from Nov '13 (which was an exceptional month, and a BME), mostly due to a drop in SS sales. I was "feeding the beast" in September and October, so there was a spike in sales in Oct/Nov, but Dec was kinda disappointing. Guess I'll have to start production again.

Alamy.com / Re: anyone selling video through A?
« on: December 08, 2013, 15:56 »
Has anything changed since? I got an invite from alamy to contribute my video portfolio to them, but as I would need to mail in my hard drive, I'm wondering if it's worth it. I barely sell any photos there, so if the situation with video is even worse, I might not bother. :)

570
Yup, bigstock. Waste of time for me.

571
BME (+33.4%)

All the agencies are doing better, except BigStock. I will most likely stop uploading there, as it is just not worth it. Pond5 was a nice surprise this month, as well as a one RM sale at alamy.

Overall, I am quite pleased. I hope December will be nice too, but I don't exepct a BME.

Probably won't be informative, but it's fun, so why not.

First year: 2010
Agencies: Shutterstock, iStock, 123RF, Dreamstime, Fotolia, BigStock
Files at end of year: 380
Income: $1400

Don't feed the ego, folks.

Yuri made it pretty clear how he feels about all of us amateurs. Why are we talking about him?
How does he feel about us? Can someone remind us who missed that?

I'm not sure what's going on, but it looks good. Too bad I didn't upload to iStock for almost two years, so my portfolio there is 15% of my shutterstock portfolio.
