MicrostockSubmitter / Re: not updating status !?
« on: January 17, 2020, 09:51 »
I received an error saying the "Recaptcha/debug.log was in use by another process" and the program doesn't start up anymore.

Edit, never mind, I found that "CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess" was still running in the background. I ended the task and was able to start StockSubmitter again.

how much  for 1 credit on glstock.com ?

No credits.  I think a S is 3 an M is 7 and a L is 15.

GLStock might finally be making a sale!

Am I playing with fire, literally?

Political sensitivity aside, I reckon its shelf life won't be that long. If there's not going to be a war, and no big aftermath (like MH17), the demand for a photo like this will be very low.

By the way, how did your other apocalyptic photo manipulations do in terms of revenue?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is this a stock agency?
« on: January 05, 2020, 08:01 »
You have to pay THEM $14.16/month for "exposure" and the empty promise of future commission work...from "big" brands like local wedding planners and magazines? Oh yeah, that will really pay the bills.

Whoever puts up with this nonsense? TwoBrightLights' entire business model consists of leeching off of naive and desperate photographers who are looking to get published. Don't fall for it!

Adobe Stock / Re: How is your December
« on: January 02, 2020, 07:09 »
December was perfectly normal. The last week of December is by far the slowest, but no surprise there.

Started off 2020 with a nice video sale, so buyers are back!

Edit 12 hours later: THREE video sales!

If it's just a tomato on a white background, then you'll have hard time finding more than 30 relevant keywords.
30!!!

Somebody mentioned 30 as the sweet spot, that's why I took that number ;)

Let's try!
tomato, isolated, vegetable, berry, stem, ripe, juicy, red, green, white, food, ingredient,  raw, healthy, health, edible, diet, nutritious, nutrition, fresh, organic, natural, produce, background, photo, no shadow, single

27 tags, although I admit I'm really pushing it.

No normal person searches for a red tomato isolated, using half those words, but of course I'd probably have most of them myself. We're like a bunch of superstitious pigeons getting random rewards and we don't know why. I mean, does anyone search for ripe, juicy, food, ingredient, edible, nutritious, nutrition, produce, or do they look for Tomato Isolated On White? With red or green or sliced or some modifier.

Be honest?

If you were looking for a sliced red tomato isolated on white, what would you type into the search? Hmmm? Most of the words we add are grasping for straws and maybe someone will see us, because, we added some obscure word, that no one searches for?

And you left off  ;) No one, copy space, neutral space, isolated on white, Solanum lycopersicum, nightshade,

I know, if you're only looking for an isolated tomato, you won't use keywords like 'produce', 'organic' or 'edible'. But someone who is looking to download multiple food images, might type 'juicy fresh food' and come across our image and decide to download it along with other stuff. You never know!

Good blog, but this part bafffled me:

Im really trying hard to justify why I keep uploading to iStock when they provide, by far, one of the lowest Returns Per Download for the majors, at around 0.45 cents and non-exclusive commissions are at a pathetic 15%.

However, Ill keep uploading to them because $100 a month is better than $0 but I cant say that I feel good about it.

Uploading to one of the worst offenders in microstock for a mere $100 "because it's better than $0?"? That's flawed logic. You're saying you have a hard time justifying it.
I would understand it if you keep your portfolio online, but uploading new content to a greedy agency is exactly the reason why they're able to stay afloat.

Is not uploading but leaving things on IS for my $50-$100 a year also flawed? Some days I think so, and wonder about just closing. Others I feel that for the effort, I'll take some "free money". Can't decide, so I keep reviewing the situation and thinking, maybe I should just close out and stop helping them. But then I say, what's the harm... OK you get the idea, undecided, flip flop, can't make up my mind.   ;D

No, that's what I do as well, leaving it online. Considering the work we all put in to upload to iStock, deleting your entire portfolio is a waste, but not actively uploading hurts them enough I hope. But I'm going back and forth as well between closing and leaving it online :D

Semi offtopic, no matter the work I have put to upload in the one agency submitting to,
I will have no doubts and regrets to delete everything if leaving them one day.
It is basic business tactic I think similar if leaving an employer or a client.
You don't leave some gear or files or a hard drive around just in case they pay something in the future...

Perhaps I am wrong though :)

I understand that, but an employer or client is something different. Unless there's nothing for me to gain, I'm not a fan of burning bridges definitively. Sometimes an agency can turn 180 degrees (Fotolia for instance).

What do you think of getting our fees paid in crypto currencies like bitcoin or ethereum ? Stock agencies are by nature internet competent

I see you haven't met Getty/iStock!

On a more serious note: most agencies are surprisingly rigid and always a few steps behind when it comes to implementing the latest site technology, let alone implementing a crypto payment system. As long as crypto is not mainstream and widely adopted, agencies won't invest in such a new system.
I also think the volatility of the crypto market at this moment makes it more of a gamble than a cost-saving opportunity for you. Paypal's fees are relatively hidden, but I think it's around 2.5% to convert to another currency? The question is whether getting paid out in crypto will be less expensive.

If it's a photo full of people doing all kinds of activities, 50 tags may not be enough for you.

General - Top Sites / Re: Least Favorite Site to Upload to?

DepositPhotos: buggy web uploader, and their FTP server is completely unsecured (i.e. no FTP over TSL, just plain FTP)

Gettyimages relation with contributors has always been based on abuse. There are people that want to be abused even if prevented again and again. But like personal toxic relationships the abuse always escalates. It does not stop or go backwards. Only the victim is responsible for saying stop and walk away.

In the case of business relationships, sure. But victim blaming is not right when it comes to personal relationships. Those situations can be a lot more emotional and complex, and walking away from abuse is sometimes easier said than done. Especially when violent threats are involved, or kids.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Secrets of successful marketing?
« on: December 15, 2019, 10:52 »
Sometimes it's also a matter of sheer luck, of being at the right time, at the right place, with a unique, quality product or concept that people didn't know they needed. Or having the right connections in your network to spread the word quickly among the big names out there.

Most people don't have access to that, so most of their ideas or products will fade into obscurity.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 sales
« on: December 04, 2019, 08:48 »
Since I was so extremely disappointed with with SS and AS performance, more uploads and better quality/cv equal less earnings ::) I decided to go exclusive on P5 (without distribution to AS).
Dumb move? maybe, I guess time will tell. So far very small port and no sales. I'll keep you posted!

I wouldn't call it dumb (who am I to say others are dumb), but a risky move, yes ;)

Canva / Re: Canva Subscriptions
« on: December 04, 2019, 07:09 »
I don't experience a drop in credit sales, but my subscription numbers are not big.

I do appreciate that we're able to calculate the average RPI for subscription downloads. It doesn't go below $0.16 for me, max is $0.28.

Can the code I received for the Photography Plan (I've activated the All Apps code now) be given to someone else, say a family member?

569
The image can never be trademarked, since you own the copyright of your work. Therefore, Adobe is misleading customers by saying that brand identities can be created using RF content. It cannot be called a logo then, can it?

570
How can you put Yayimages in that list? They have stopped reporting our sales since 2018. I recently had a talk with the new owners and they said they were focussing on the contributor area... 3 months ago... when I asked him what was happening and told him that nothing was moving/selling at all on the site, he told he sold 1 500 000 credits... and said I made 31 sales in early october... this means they are making sales with our images, and NOT reporting to us, and since they don't report the sales, we cannot withdraw them, thus it seems they are making money of our back and do not plan to pay us :-/... I hope the situation changes.

Deliberately withholding revenue from contributors is illegal, so I wonder why you just let this continue...

What a useless comment, thanks!  :o

I posted this here to let it known and that other contributors put pressure on them to make this move, and I contacted them also, they sent me an excel sheet with my total downloads, but no earnings, so I asked them to send me the earnings or remove my portfolio... after if nothing moves I will have to hire a lawyer.

What have YOU done not to let this continue?

Oh, now I understand why you reacted so annoyed in that other thread about DT, was it because of this?

You said 'I hope the situation changes' which sounded like you were just waiting for them to pay you. So I actually wondered why you wouldn't take action immediately. But good to see you're going to take legal action if necessary.

I didn't even know Yayimages did this until you posted this. I don't upload there, and I can't take legal action for other people.

571
Why the surprise? You could have known.
One look at their video commission structure made me decide never to sell footage there.

Is that why you did not check the commission structure yourself before uploading when you posted that in 2017? Why are you so patronizing to others, does it make you feel better?

I even removed my videos from DT after I found out how little commission they are willing to pay for a sale.

You call that patronizing? You're reading too much into it.

I remember batch uploading a handful of videos to several agencies but I figured out DT was a mistake. So I removed them shortly after. I should have known better too, if that's what you're asking. But the OP said he 'keeps getting $21 sales', which seems to me he wasn't alarmed after the first sale...So why the surprise several sales later?

By the way, you sure went out of your way to dig up an old post of mine.

572
Guys, I value everyone's opinion in my thread and I'm looking forward to see more people adding insight on the revenue sharing model, but take your personal fights somewhere else, please.

I have exactly 300 video files accepted 10 or so days ago. Approval rate about  90%. When should i expect code? I received photo plan month or two ago but i have 300 photos approved in february. Not in hurry, just wanted to know approximately.

I received the all apps plan exactly 1 month after getting 300 videos...support said it would take approx. 2-4 weeks.

I received my bonus code just now! In my spam folder as well. But glad I finally got it.
