General Stock Discussion / Re: The Good Old Days
« on: August 24, 2017, 00:13 »
Very often used to wake up and first thing in the morning find a balance of $50 just over night sales!...its time go quit micro and try the luck in the traditional agencies I recon.
We could be watching the beginning of the end. This is no doom/gloom but reallity. :)

SS is down to my third agency. Somehow, somewhere I recon they must have screwed up something chronic! maybe they are in a take-over bid corporate pirates?  well who knows?

To put it mildly!  worthless August. Biggest drop is SS. Adobe absolute crap since everything is geared towards lower end contributors.

Yeah but its also gone too far the other way nowadays all you have to do is salute your flag and youre classified a racist. Fortunately not many take too much notice of all this leftie crap anymore!

Shutterstock.com / SS and Adobe similarity!
« on: August 19, 2017, 00:27 »
Seems to me that whatever SS do it only takes a few months and adobe/ft will follow and imitate it. Now adobe have started with this captcha crap which is just so stupid its unbelievable!
Their search algorithm seems to go hand in hand. Useless! lower end contributors favoured and both are pushing subs packages all the way and both are at the moment producing crummy results if peoples comments here and everywhere else is anything to go by.

As soon as my two new macro sites have taken off oh man I am well out of these two places. So sick of seeing these 0.38c sales and the 10 hours downtime at adobe. Take my port of 5K files and upload the lot at the Getty RF or even Istock is better!...my moth there was great! 843 bucks and for Istock that is good for an indy!

Ok rant over but Im serious actually fed up with micro its just hassles and all for nothing really.

Thanks for your help I will try that. cheers!

Note, I wrote the same thing yesterday and got a snarky remark about being four days late and called a *? Wow!

Here's something useful. It shows your sales and files and sorts things very nicely. There are times when the site is slow and you must reload, it's very popular. But someone made a site that does what IS should have done for us.

https://www.todayis20.com/

Well I was in a bit of a bad mood! anyway thanks for your help I appreciate it! ...frankly I dont know why IS makes it so difficult or rather this esp crap?

I think we can agree there and this one too.

a) They don't care  b) They are incompetent c) they don't like to make it too obvious how much they are creaming off or a combination of all the above.

Getty was in a big hurry to get things moved to their servers. Been said before, this is accounting and files, that's why the formats changed, to match Getty. ESP was activated while it was barely functional, with promises. We get a little nibble every month and more promises.

Consolidation of service, cut expenses, cut employees. Remember most of the contract mods on the forum got the axe. If people in the company end got the axe, I missed it, but I bet the last of the Canadian people got moved out. Transfer or told to go find another job.

Yeah its rather funny actually but wherever Getty goes they create nothing but troubles. Never used to be like that. Back in the 90s after buying up Image-Bank and Stones, the two industry leaders at that time they were brilliant and everything went nice and smooth no problems at all and everyone was earning good money. However they became too big for their shoes and ever since 2006 its just been a downhill race. Sad really but true!

« on: August 17, 2017, 04:26 »
I wouldn't mind if we could have 2 accounts and upload new images to the new account at the lowest rate.  Getting almost nothing for new images is demoralising.

Agree its very demoralizing! Yes that would be a perfect alternative but I doubt they want that since they are reaping the profits by only promoting lower end royalty members, saving millions in payouts.
Somebody in their own forum had made some calculations based on 6 months and it was incredible the money they saved were in the tens of millions. He got banned from their forum btw not surprising.

mistake! dont know what happened here but all text disappeared!

anyway answer to sharpshots post: of course they do!  been doing for a long time now. You can test it! upload 5 shots and then ask somebody on 0.25c to upload at the very same time. You wont believe it youre shots are basically nowhere to be seen. Done it a few times just to be sure. Never fails and just to point out for the usual non believers. This is NOT a conspiracy theory its been going on since last X-mas. Sure there are exceptions but on the whole thats their strategy. Its business if they can earn more agency revenue that way why not?  I would do the same.

rather childish actually, all I look at is the monthly sales-reports. I was asking if the ESP is showing any stats? apart from the stupid spinning wheel!  whats this the 15 year old brigade replying?

btw dont bother answering unless you can find something useful to say.

And some people say, stupid question, stupid answers? You missed the switch, over 8 months ago, but you're here every reading day?

Why don't you ask your friends who have been reporting all those sales :o

For a part timer Paws you enough make yourself busy in every single thread!  so whats your day job mate?  turning burgers at Mac's? or.........

don't knock flipping burgers at Mac's - in my city they are now making $32,000 a year as minimum wage! That's probably better than 50% of the folks here  :(

It was just tongue in cheek really no harm meant! :)

Im a bit out of touch here. At Istock where do I see the daily stats, takings? anybody?

Log on to ESP.

Go to your profile page by clicking on "account managment" top right.

It has your running total of the number of photo, image and video downloads. No financial information, I'm afraid.

So by noting down your daily figures, you can work out how many downloads you are getting each day.

That's the theory. I have no idea how accurate and dependable this method is.

Thanks appreciate it!!  I was away when IS moved to ESP you see so I kind of got lost when I came back!

nice of you! cheers!

You are lucky if you get daily sales at iStock , but try to use deepmeta 3 . You can see sales of last months, day by day and where they came from. Hope this helps

Thanks appreciate it!  cheers!

Although milk can provide a temporary reprieve from the discomfort of heartburn, the lactic acid contained in milk is likely to exacerbate one's symptoms.

If that's not useful, then I don't know what is!

Easy down a bit!  youre too edgy this morning. ::) good weather, blue and sunny sky!  what more do you want 8)

Yep! Istock is beginning to show good signs selling well actually and for an independent as well. Spoke to a few mates who like me has been with them for over 10 years and the sales are doing fine.
Might be worth uploading there again instead of backing these old boilers like SS and Adobe etc. All we seem to get there nowadays is pennies from heaven and weird stuff. :)

Although apparently "conglomerates" of photographers are doing very nicely so they are not likely to stop any time soon  :-\

Only the giant conglomerates not the smaller factories with around 50,60K images, theyre doing terrible as do the distributors. I know a hole heap of them! dreadful!

Pixelbites and Tyler!  I really feel for you guys its not a fun situation and I can imagine is a right downer having to look for other avenues of incomes. I do lots om commissioned work dayrate photography so why dont you try the same a few jobs here and there and it pays handsomely!

If there is any consolation in a few years time when agencies are beginning to lack of high commercial value files etc. There is a vast difference between the everyday part timer and the full time photographer having to and forced to produce good quality material.  They will feel that and the Rm/Rf agencies will by then have taken back what was once their playground. Micro-stock have had a good 12-14 years a good run actually but now its drying up quickly its not even worth uploading anymore just to never ever see the uploads selling! :)
