I wouldn't say microstock industry is going down. I think it's more the fact that total number of images on every agency is going up as well as total number of new contributors. If one has 3000 images in portfolio, and manage to put online 30 more images every week, that means he/she made portfolio bigger for 1%
In the mean time, shutterstock has little over 11 000 000 images, and it's sytatistics says they added almost 100 000 images this week, which is again, very close to 1% ( I guess "this week" means in last 7 days, because it's still tuesday) So, portfolios of big guys have the same exposure like several months before.
In the mean time, small contributors (around 300 images in port.), like me, experience growth in sales, because if a small contributor increases his/her portfolio for 30 images weekly, he automatically makes portfolio (and it's exposure) at least 10% bigger.
Yes, but it will not last long. If you produce 30 images weekly you will double your portfolio in 3 months and it is not going to be 10% anymore. In one year you will start complaining how your income is not growing up like it used to do.

Well, Dook, the problem is our buyers are from all around the world, and most of them don't care if I write that I am Cetnik, Ustasa or Muslim. But Whitechild...hmm. As you could see, even some people on this forum thought I am a skinhead.

Even if you don't click on the link, but view the image I uploaded in full size, you will see the "South Africa" on the South America map.
Yes, lol, I was thinking this was just a pure human error, but it seems it's more lack of knowledge.

Haha, well, at least both Africa and S. America were the same continent...once. West coast of Africa match east coast of South America.

Guys, I posted yesterday on my wall on FB that I'm going to delete my account because there is no privacy, and then my friend told me FR introduced privacy again. It happened yesterday I think, and now again, you can hide almost everything. You can also be the only person who can see your friends list, and other people can see only friends from your friends list that are in common with him/her. I went to my account and hide everything I thought is important to hide.

I decided to cancel my FB account few days ago, and now I will do it for real. There is no any privacy on FB (especially since last december). Now, everyone who send you a friend request can see all your pictures that other friends can see, as well as your friends photos. FB became one big village where everyone knows everything about everyone, and I don't like it. Once, some 8 months ago, some female model contacted me on gmail and asked if I can arrange a photo session with her. She found my email address on my website. But as she lives in UK, I explained her that I can't do it, and that was the only conversation between us. But, 6 months after it, I saw a notification on FB saying: "People you may know"... and her name after it. So, FB knows that her and I exchanged one email 6 months before. For me, that is a reason to be concerned. I will go right away to my account and cancel it.

lol, I didn't think you were a skinhead. Instead, I thought your hair left you instead of the other way around
lol, my hair left me in my early twenties. Well, not completely, but I am bald as much as one can be due to genetics and hormones.

'Dreamframer' sounds magical. It's a good choice and I'm sure it will bring you luck. Let them have the White Child if it makes them feel better... We're left with the dreams, not a bad outcome
In my country people say: "from your mouth to God's ears" I heard that Whitechild is pretty common English last name, so I was surprised that no one took that nick name in microstock world...

Guys, I'm starting to have a problem with my actual earnings on SS because of the withheld tax that's collecting in my account from month to month. Right now, I got $40,02 of tax withheld, and soon it will become very hard for me to follow how much I really earned, and when can I expect my payment. Right now, my gross earning are around $106, and one would expect payment. But my tax is around $40 for past months, and I don't have an idea how much is it for May. Is there any solution for this problem, or my account will continue to collect tax until my tax withheld becomes bigger than my earnings? I can see the situation in the future when I have gross earnings (including tax) of $200, and $140 just tax. So, soon if I want to know when will I reach payment, I have to deduct tax for all past months from the gross earnings. I really don't want to do it every month.

Oh, I gotta change my email address, website, and myspace page that I registered few days ago. I got only 4 friends there. 2 of them are "default" myspace friends, so I don't count them, and one of the rest 2 is Beyonce

Oh my... I didn't even imagine that so many of you guys thought I am a skinhead. You should tell me long ago about this. Maybe that way I would avoid some of small unpleasant situations that I had to deal with, lol. @suwanneeredhead: Thanks Stacey! Good to see you! I'm so flattered. It's always a great pleasure seeing you.

I've never thought that or ever gave it any thought, but I could see how some people would see it that way....but heh, maybe with Dreamframer your pictures will pop up more on searchs with Google for Dreamstime..."Dream On"
Maybe I should call my self Dreamstimer, lol, or Dreamstime r I'm sure it would pop up more in that case.

The good thing is that we can shorten it to DF instead of WC.
Maria, Maria... lolol Thanks Lisa. I bet most people here think the same about you. I know that people often make conclusions even on the first sight, and if I want to sell something to someone, I have to think about this as well. @cclaper , lol, so, I am not the only one with double sided nickname.

Hi everyone, I am just informing you that I had to change my username from Whitechild to Dreamframer, because I had comments from 3 people that my username sounds kinda racist. I would like to explain what my username means, and then I will change it anyway. When I was a kid I was blond, and my older brother always had dark hair. That's why older people (neighbors mostly) used to call me "white child", or "white kid". I have never divide people by any means, including skin color, and I didn't even think someone will ever connect my username with racism. But it seems that Americans still have problem with this. Most musicians I love to listen are black. I was always amazed by black people's musical talent, which is even more noticable in my case since I sing and compose. So, I had to change my username, and I came up with Dreamframer.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you. You can keyword your images poorly and spend 2-3 minutes per image. But for a good keywording of one image you should spent at least 5 minutes (if not 10). That means maximum 12 images per hour. 12x0.4=$4.8 per hour. Now find me someone who will do it for less. If you think this is a stealing, then sit and try to keyword 1000 images yourself
In my opinion, the only problem if you send images to Dreamstime for keywording, is that not all images will be accepted. So, you will again have some images to keyword manually.
i dont think i've ever spent 5' on one image & generate 10-20 kw / image - if you have a good vocabulary,it's just not that hard - plus, i rarely keyword less than3-5 images at a time and even rarer are the times i have to start keywording from scratch - i uslly have a siimila;ly keyworded image that i can cut n paste
i average about 50 images an hour - that's writing captions, keywording, adding iptc info, but i wouldnt do it for someone else for less than $50/hr
s
I almost always write 50 keywords for every image. For 10-20 words you need less time, but if you want to find 50 relevant keywords, you have to spend more time keywording. I even use Yuri's website for keywording, and I can't do it faster.
