Yeah, it was removed because it was degraded to a simple back and forth spat. I could have removed the last page or so of the discussion but chose to simply archive the entire thread and be done with it. Sometimes it feels easier to start fresh.
good point/ thx for letting us know .

The answer is simple: your images are too good for them. These are correctly exposed, correctly lighted, nice images. Really nice images! Good images are boring for them. They already have some... so now they need trendy, surprising, spontaneously taken images. Different looking images. Much worse images then yours. Buy an iphone and forget about lighting and composition and they will let you in. At least this is my impression while I am browsing Stocksy.
LMAO, ... and pump up the ISO for noise the size of giant golf balls , clipped highlights and blocked shadows.. like you get from those camera - clubs exhibitions that sell framed images for 400 bucks

yes, it was a good topic to whine... (no harm done)...
but if it was removed due to report issues, that too is absurd.. if it was in fact your worst month on ss, how do they justify banning the truth???
that would be as bad as censorship by despotic govt, which i am sure no one likes.

i didn't even notice it was deleted LOL but if it was due to the two reasons assumed.. 1) ss forbid 2) too much backstabbing it could have been better to just ban the b*st@rd for commiting 2) and as for 1), since when has ss been the moderator of this forum> what good is a forum if there is such a restriction??? it would no longer be a forum. back-stabbing has driven a lot of old commentors away from this forum, and if we just let topics go to only allow the nice woo yay topics, this would be no longer a contributors forum to visit.

some consultant out there must be telling sites that pixels is a popular name, it seems. IMHO I can't imagine anyone searching for "pixels" when they want art or stock photography but I'm not marketing guru LOL.
consultant, LMAO... yes, i remember decades ago in the prime of my life, i was head of one of the top AV business in the country, if not the world, and they too brought in a consultant who suggested laying off everyone including the top selling people and including the CEO who made the business. he went home to put a bullet through his head, and karmic payoff was the business went broke and no longer exist. to me , and many business ppl with encounter of consultant know that the moment a business brings in a consultant it is like shaman coming in to bleed the company of every penny with their bs.

Is SS search really so awful and Megapixl's so much better?
Now, only time will tell if a collection curated automatically can be competitive. If this will be the case, we will slowly kiss goodbye those expensive SS SODs.
as far as in my own case, --dt is dead , has been in comatose for months, .. no, years !!! --ss expensive SODs ... has already been kissing me goodbye for months... almost a year now. but i don't know if it's due to what you call collection-curation.

I've been having similar troubles sometimes. are you sending from your mobile app? i think sometimes the mobile app doesn't update with the newest changes to metadata before you hit submit and its bugging the heck out of me. also happens when I've sent illustrations - saying I didn't designate as illustration - which like editorial - is another dropbox.. otherwise my only other potential explanation is a reviewer who hopefully gets fired soon.
red line... coincidentally, that happened to me many times... which i too suspect there is a certain fool there in editorials. i suggest, just wait for a certain period, and re-submit ... it always gets approved by the regular editorial reviewers who do a great job... great job meaning, when they do reject, there is a good reason. echo your red line... i wish they sack this person, but hell freezes over slowly. .. ppl like that never get sacked.

http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/announcing-shutterstocks-new-editorial-guidelines
more or less goes like this;
CITY, COUNTRY - MONTH DAY YEAR : The remainder is a factual description of what the photo is showing. If it is an illustrative editorial, you need to include "illustrative editorial" in your description and in your keywords..
I think I remember seeing somewhere that they no longer require us to put a qualifying statement as to what makes it 'newsworthy' so you don't need to include statements that don't directly describe the image content.
yes, and be throughly careful with your description as this is where you get downloads or not. has something to do with what pauliewalnuts say regarding search engine formula or whatever the proper term for successful stock sales.

Stocksy's visual direction is directed by a small group of elitist editors that are looking for a very narrow and specific Instagram/VSCO/foodie/hipster aesthetic, exclusively. They only give vague indications as to what they want, and the few hints that they want variety is contradicted by their recommendation to refer to their existing collection for guidance. 98% of the content on that site could be shot by one photographer.
They claim they don't want "typical" stock photography, yet their most vocal supporter, representative and cheerleader is exactly the style of shooter they claim they don't want to accept. No offense to the gentleman I refer to, but this dude wouldn't have been accepted to Stocksy based on the content style they historically provided to iStock, etc. Again, not a rip on quality, just the irony of the insincere Stocksy philosophy.
I don't know why anyone would want to be subject themselves to the guaranteed rejection they'll give you or the BS excuses the apologists here will make. You have great work "Indie", their denial of you into their little world was a massive oversight. It sure would give the cheerleaders here a bit more authenticity to admit that. I'm guessing they have a contractual obligation to never speak of Stocksy in a negative manner. Which would be another major reason I'd avoid doing business with them.
Stocksy is going to drop off the relevance map like a ton of bricks the second the "current" fashion style changes. Which it ALWAYS does, eventually. For this reason, their public business model doesn't make a lick of sense. All the stress of being accepted, the work to put into it for exclusive sets, then bam, the hipster-bearded-manbun-lumberjack-granola-gluten-free look goes out of style. Ooops, all of a sudden 75% of the collection looks dated and useless.
"I might suggest submitting something other than head and shoulders looking at the camera glamour model portraits." "i too had the same first impression as slp"

"The editor's are looking for photographers who fit a niche/style not otherwise filled by current members" "they are looking for something different"
Anyone looking through their collection can determine in about 10 seconds that this is nonsense.
FYI, I know Stocksy defenders will call me jealous, butthurt about some rejection of a submission I never made. But honestly, I don't care to apply at Stocksy, don't really care about those who do. On top of that, I specialize in video. But from the outside looking in, the elitist hipster arrogance is a little overwhelming. Tone a down a bit guys, and maybe you'll get less hate. Maybe lay out some HONEST expectations for the people that actually want to subject themselves to your narrow scrutiny. Just a a suggestion.
in many ways, i tend to agree with what you write . we all remember all the previous "great new hope" to rescue us from istock,... including veer... remember how we all cheered for veer??? and even canva??? but none of these have any track record just yet. so in that way, i agree with you, ... wait till the flavour novelty wears out, before we bring in the champagne glasses!!!

Now ALL of my vectors are being rejected for varying ridiculous reasons, mostly "title," but one for "placement" because they don't like things to be symmetrical, I guess? Meanwhile, the site is flooded with new vectors in the same category that are similar to the ones that were rejected. Not traced, but clearly "inspired" by my images.
I'm trying very, very hard not to feel paranoid.
did you try writing "contact us" or twit oringer on his twitter site (directly) if you feel this is unjustified, do it with conviction . you be amazed how a simple direct email to the top ppl does wonders, as many times, they do not know what the floor level ppl are doing, most of all the floor managers . i once went all the way up to the top for an incident, not microstock, and i had the great surprise when the region manager actually called me directly to resolve the issue. next thing i knew, the floor was all wiped out of the culprits. if enough contributors do this, the same can happen at ss. don't waste time on forums, because i am sure oringer has no time for reading forums. it's like the army, the dirty sgt is the one who is dirty, and the major hears nothing because he thinks the sgt is doing the job well.

Thanks for the replies. Sold two today, so I guess there's a hand for every glove!
the thing with ss is that if you get sales on your new images on first time, there is a good chance it will give you repeat sales from there on. also, all new contributors get a honeymoon period where their work is predominantly featured. this is where you will find your sales take off or die after the honeymoon period. for all intensive purpose, sean locke knows what he's talking about, because he sells more in one month than many of us sell in months, or even years. of course, you will sell the odd ones, as cathyslife said, you cannot predict what is going to be the best seller. in my case, if i showed you my best sellers, you too, will shake your head, as they are not even close to my best works. and yes, my best works are many still having zero to single digit dls. best thing to do is just upload as many as you can, and as regularly as you can. it's really a numbers game these days.

Yes, I used to be able to avoid weekends, but now reviews are more sporadic and I can't predict when they'll be "looked at."
So right, Shelma. There is no recognizable rhyme or reason to reviews any more. It's a total cr*pshoot.
The insane will bang their heads against the wall in a futile effort to reason it out.
The sane will simply keep throwing spaghetti on that same wall to see if and when anything sticks.
Yes, I used to be able to avoid weekends, but now reviews are more sporadic and I can't predict when they'll be "looked at."
Definitely they have one or more new vector reviewers the last couple of weeks. I have also had a lot of crazy rejections.
good 2 know that it 's not just the photo review that's plagued. but i think it's not a handful of renegade mass-atilla, but more so that there is one person using some kind of program to do his/her work. .. some kind of macro based on histogram or pixel-movement. i suspect this because only such a program can curate a batch of 10-100 images per 20 minute or so. i actually timed the curation and found this cannot be humanly. try it, one day or night , based on your time of rejections, you can see that from your emails of results of your submission. you will find it's not being done by a person

thank you. since they said they wanted them all in one batch, do not want to mess it up and then get stuck.
They don't have to be all in one batch. Only the photos from that exact case number can be in that upload submission. When you add the number it goes for all files in the batch, not by individual files.
that's right. when they say a batch, they mean that each time you submit anything ..singly or with another, put only those of the events that you got the credential # applied. iow, if you have commercial, or another editorial not referring to the credential, you don't include them . you edit the ones relevant to this credential # and submit them separately. does not have to always be done all at once. there are still events from a certain credential # i still upload after months of nothing done. just remember which credential is for which event.

I just got a banch on nonsensical "title" rejections. Someone can't be bothered actually looking because they want to go out and have fun this weekend.
hint here, ... make a note of the weekend and time of your submissions that usually get these nonsense. this is the shift of atilla. if you avoid that shift, you will get the proper reviewer(s) and not waste time submitting during these attila shifts if we all find those shifts to avoid, atilla will lose money for not being able to gang-reject our uploads.

and i like to add too, social media will get more of your work tagged and posted there without you earning a penny.
worse still, like i found on youtube, your work is used as some background , along with the watermark... eg. some guy had a TV background with 123rf watermark still on it ... with the drama episodes on screen
i guess they must have found it via social media as many of these users have fb too.

consider this, a while back dt introduced fb likes ... proving social media works..
yes, views went up by xxx% but dls never saw anything more than eggs yes, it works for the agency via ads and traffic, but not for the contributors..
that's why 500px are waffling back and forth whether it really wants to be another flickr or fb or just another low earners to the right as a microstock agency

the submission is no different from regular submission. once you 've done editing, you click submit, there will be a drop menu where you enter the credential #

I bet it is the design elements on the pavement.
I think the ACS is right. I have had rejected images by SS, just for one Chinese writing on the vase at the image background. They demanded the translation to be accepted. I ignored because other sites accepted the same images. When the SS refused my images even though the possibility of reupload, I just ignore when the other sites accepted. I don't waste my time with nonsense.
red sentence... BRAVO! the most insightful comment ever re. ss rejections . the main issue is not whether your rejection(s) is/are justified the main issue is , that behind all these mass-rejections, a scheme of how certain handful of reviewers are abusing their positions . ie. double-dipping on re-submissions. by doing what idesign say so correctly, I don't waste my time with nonsense. [/quote]... you end their game. the more ppl do this, the sooner the review will get back to the old days of proper reviewing. that being said, there are still a handful of excellent reviewers there in ss.i know, because, when i do get rejections, i see them closely, and find the faults i missed. ,, but never with the 100% rejections; that is nonsense

I might suggest submitting something other than head and shoulders looking at the camera glamour model portraits. Not they aren't nice - nothing I can do - but it's basically a one not submission.
i love your work, but i too had the same first impression as slp... take his word for it, he knows stocksy well . also, you should also try Offset, which is not exclusive.

I'm actually hearing 'dale' for the first time here. I always just thought it was a name.
The United States and Britain, two countries separated by a common language.
you surely heard the song that soldiers sang ... "Over hill, over dale, As we hit the dusty trail, And the caissons go rolling along". ... or the christmas song "From everywhere, filling the air Oh!, how they pound, raising the sound O'er hill and dale, telling their tale" sung by american pop duo Carpenters ................ still, my point isn't that I expect ss reviewers to be literate and know every word in the Webster's, but that person should at least be intelligent enough to google the word and just not to assume any word that does not sound like English is not English. in fact, many words of locations, etc.. are not English
596
« on: April 08, 2016, 08:51 »
I would imagine the problem is not with the word Derbyshire but the word dales. That is more of a British term. If you submitted a photo of a truck and called it a lorrie, I'm sure you would get the same response. Try resubmitting with Derbyshire Valley and see what happens. Maybe your reviewer has never travelled too far.
LOL last time I checked, the Americans were not speaking English before the Brits came over ... even a yankee or a southerner would know the word dale or lorry. next thing we know, even timbuktu, leprechaun , kowtow , sahara, even etc..would be considered "not English"

LMAO, the first problem is that some ss reviewers have poor eyesight then it was the problem with reviewers not have calibrated monitors now, it's about hiring illiterate reviewers... LMAO lorry (truck) , dale , taxi (cab), kati, okra (lady's fingers) ...whatever, ... even wanker (m*$t*b*****r)... is still English you 'd think with that office with perks they would provide him/her with a dictionary or at least the twit could have easily googled to find out if it was in fact an English

as a habit held from the film days , i shot with setting of RAW/jpeg at the initial stage when i switched to digital. but these days after so many years, i only shoot jpegs, and unless it is an important shoot where i may not have much control, i go back to RAW/jpg storing the RAW, like sean locke says. but for micro, i just shoot jpg, as you already know the empirical exposures by now. .. for obvious reasons, RAW takes up alot of storage, and many of the micro stuff don't need such backup... exp when it's all marijuana, apples, onion,etc.. on white but if i am traveling , all my shots are set to RAW and jpg... because it is unlikely i can reshoot... even if i could return to the same place. ..and raw is arquived.
