But complaining about agencies that I don't even participate at is just silly.
Do you really believe TS will not have any effect on istock or any other agencies? I think it would be more silly to complain while your participating (bending over) to Thinkstock.

y do you like dog shot the best because i certainly dont think thats the "best" and ive seen those images tons of times? i personally like the shot at the beach the best but when it comes to creative content everyone has their own opinion.
Because it appears that the photographer actually set up lights for this shot, put a wig on a dog that is actually holding still for a moment and the look on the dog's face is hilarious - that's why.
Everything else is "just" like walking up to it and taking a picture.
What matters is what the image conveys. It really doesnt matter how the image gets there whether its a snap shot, studio lit with props, or heavily processed. Your post makes it sound like you hate an orange for being an orange and not an apple.

yea it sux... one of my files has over 2300 views yesterday. does anyone know if it is still happening to their newly accepted files? im waiting on uploading at the min since it has a very negative impact on best match placement with that many views and no downloads. i almost feel like canceling what i uploaded and re uploading those.

very interesting read... not taking sides but... i agree with XPTO about poverty or lack of money being the main issue. IMO, selfishness (or self interest) is a major culprit to this dilema. Countries where piracy is rampant has very little copyright infringement laws so there's no FEAR of getting fined or caught from the people downloading. With this type of environment, I can see this creating some sort of normalcy to downloading illegally. These countries usually don't produce the goods that are being stolen. There's little economic benefit for these governments to catch downloaders. As the country gets wealthier and more producers of goods come out of the country, i'm sure they will eventually pressure their government to come up with laws that will protect their income and the taxes the government gets from the sales. Sadly, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Downloading copyrighted material is wrong. We in the west totally understand and appreciate the hard work that is involved. I think it is a little unfair for us in the west to look at others around the world and expect them to understand this concept when they are not very familiar with what it takes to make movies, songs, art, photos. Content creators are fully aware of what it takes to be commercially profitable, and if the content creators are downloading illegally, you are truly a thief in my eyes.

Sorry to go off topic but am i the only one that doesn't like the name graphic leftovers? It just doesn't feel professional enough. I get why they named it that way but i create vectors specifically for microstock and believe many others do to. I don't contribute vectors that a client wasn't satisfied with and it leaves an impression that its something to do on the side to make some pocket change.

For the last 4 to 6 months since the last best match shuffle, tuesdays was my best selling days with downloads 15-30% more than the other days. Prior to that, weds was consistently my bestsellers with the same amount of download ratio. With the new best match/exclusive+ shuffle and the summer slowdown and seeing the * thinkstock banners all over the place, tuesdays are starting to suck too now =(... Just needed to vent since i know a thread like this on istock will be locked.

Tamron 28-75 2.8
I love it! Had it for my Nikon and when I got the 5D II there was no choice for me regarding the first lens to purchase for it.
Here too. Best bang for the buck. I know a few wedding shooters who have multples of this lens because it easily fits in their budget..
after doing some extensive research on price and sharpness... i bought this lens for my canon and is extremely happy with it

There's also one big huge caveat: You will incur a search penalty once you modify your keywords - I'm guessing they do this to discourage/counteract people trying to game the system.
Is this written down somewhere? this is the first time for me to hear something like this and quite useful info for me to know if its true

The problem is that $200/day can quickly become $150 then $100 or less. It doesn't take much. If you are on a good growth curve and see room for an increase in sales then it may be okay but if you're reaching a plateau then caution is advised.
Thus my advice on doubling (at least) what you think you need.
thus me asking this question

From his grammar, I'm guessing that the OP doesn't live in the USA, which may make $50k USD even more significant.
Interesting... I grew up in nyc and now live in Los Angeles. Maybe its my urban slang i speak that is confusing you. In both these cities, $50K isnt a whole lot. Other than that, i do agree with ur post. I would certainly go full time. Not because it is a lot of money-- what we are forgetting is that money isn't everything. For me there is no better way to make a living, no boss, no awkward clients and flexible hours, need I say more
I would agree that these are definately the main reason for me wanting to.

Very general question, but if you were consistently pulling in over $150 to $250 a day (weekday) from microstock and revenues actually were going up from month to month as u put more time in it, would you do this fulltime? Im just curious on the ones that jumped on the fulltime boat if this was roughly the amount of income they started with...

Maybe they have lower standards then ? I wonder why this is the stock answer to explain why others accept a photo when IS rejects it, when there are just as many incidences where IS accepts a photo that others reject. So by this all-too-frequently-posted-here logic, they ALL must have lower standards!
I believe the OP only gripes about istock's high standards. He wants to share a laugh, but i just keep hearing the same message.

I, respectfully, beg to differ - I am making significant money. A least compared to what I am making on my regular IS sales.
Now why are you false advertising? Even if you were making significant money, you wouldnt want to advertise it here and infect your competition with desperate thoughts talk about advertisement tho , i see thinkstock banners everywhere.

my downloads have been more or less steady and somewhat predictable since 2.0 was implemented. this past week has me very worried, with a 40% + drop in dl numbers. I hope whatever is happening with the best match is changed soon. I can't get my head around the lack of comment lately from HQ, the database upheaval and the search screw ups of late with little forum activity on the part of admins, with the exception of posting in the Cannes thread, which seems a little inappropriate given the long queue and the lag in contributor relation support response.
I just hope this best match shake up is nothing like the one in 2008. so many things could be factors, but it is too early for summer slowdown.
Maybe a combination of Ebb and Flow and tens of thousands E+ files with the extra artifical best match push. This E+ experiment doesnt hurt istocks bottom line at all but it could really hurt some contributors. E+ sort of negates BM2. I think the majority of the bestsellers will benefit from E+ but the files with mediocre dl ratio (if you have lots of them that makes up more than 50% of your sales) will suffer from this E+ algorithm. i agree, so many factors...

what's the biggie to shoot some video as part of a usual shoot
Because the lighting for photo with strobes is 100% different from video lighting. Also, there is the question as to whether still models can perform for video, and also if the contributor can direct video as well. It isn't just "hey, I'll push the video button on my camera".
Thats the reason ur successful, but microstock is filled with people that just pushes buttons.
