I paid $225. Is it worth anything?

Cameras / Lenses / Just ordered my Canon 30D
« on: July 25, 2007, 17:45 »
Final price was AUD$1158 which is US$1026. Australia supplier however.

The exchange rates for Australia are the highest they have been for 18 years.

Now I have to buy myself some nice glass. Think I will get a real fast 17-85 lens, and one of the new DC Sigma wide angles for landscapes.

bashing my head against a wall ...

been in touch with a stack of suppliers and nobody wants to supply ...

however ... I have the Canon 30D down to $AUD1206, which is approx US$1061

Wow! If what the writer says is true, then it's time some micro-hobbits stepped up to help deliver us from the hands of the evil dark lords of Royalty-Free-Land.  :D

like ... what's a hobbit?

litifeta....   very interesting.....    and I concur with leaf,  might need to have some formal foundation....     sad to see only 3 responses to this though...  don't understand why either,   next to 'free',  'discounted' is my favorite price.   8)-tom

Yes we would have to work on a few people to gain memberships.

I think a nominal "membership fee" would suffice. What is most important I think is having some sort of foundation, and Leaf already has that: The MicroStock Group.

There are heaps of major suppliers around the world with whom I believe we could jag some awesome deals from.

Currently Leaf has 700 odd members, but I am sure we could easily find 2000 stockies to join us.

My idea is we approach a number of major suppliers and get them to submit a price list for a period of 6 months at a time in $USD.

We then choose the supplier for the next 6 months from whom we will agree to purchase from, and to send leads to.

What we are in effect doing is becoming the retailer ourselves.

My friend at a camera store tells me the margins in Australia are 35% on RRP. Plus they get up to 15% in rebates which are disguised as "advertising" etc.

Importing of course means you may incur Customs Duty in your country, however, this also means the supplier is able to discount the goods and services tax in their originating country because the product is export.

I would like to hear back from you on this.

anyways ... we found the CIPA blooper well ahead of the rest ...

Another first for www.microstockgroup.com

now, we wait for the Olympus E1 replacement.

583
DT still makes me $100 a month from 250 images. Wish I could say the same for the others, my stuff has really died elsewhere. And now the camera is broken I am relying on the old stuff I haven't sent in yet.

CIPA has updated its PictBridge Certified Model listing dated July 17, 2007.

And there is a new listing for a camera called EOS 40D!

Check it out:

New Sites - General / Re: Moodboard
« on: July 17, 2007, 19:55 »
Some feedback regarding Moodboard.

I have been communicating for 6 months with Jo from the site.

The people on board at mood have business development experiences from companies like Getty, and Digital Vision.

Their original business plan was for Premium Macro, and middle-market Micro. Their difference is a considerably higher price point.

They are after 5 or so images as a way of accepting you before you get access to the backend.

They asked for a lot of feedback in the interim set up period and I have always found them to be very open to suggestions.

Cheers

I personally do not think people take us serious enough to consider the coop idea worthwhile.

For a start, I don't see any of the current site owners jumping over themselves to deal with us, and added to that, neither the camera manufacturers or Adobe seem to be all that interested in taking us serious, despite how much we spend with them.

Otherwise we would have Canon and Adobe keen to present themselves to us - here - and keen to get our feedback on new models etc.

Which is really weird to me considering there is supposed to be 40,000 stockies worldwide, and this site is probably one of the leading forums on the topic.

I would ask for some feedback from their forums. Most of us here got rejected heaps of times before we actually got accepted.

I still have not been accepted at StockXpert, but that is my fault.

Speaking of posed portraits. What do you recommend as a flash kit. (ie) softboxes, watts etc good enough to do some simple portraits for a beginner

I have 44 waiting. That upload thing is the pits. Sometimes I get it to take 5, and next only 1 or it times out.

But fingers crossed. I am in for the long haul.

Cameras / Lenses / I think I will buy a 30D
« on: July 05, 2007, 20:32 »
It is tax time, and I have a big refund due. And my poor old 300D is so full of dust it takes longer to patch all the spots in Photoshop than it is worth.

There are a few deals on the Canon 30D at the moment. I do not have any decent lenses, but can anyone give me a reason why I should look at another brand instead of the Canon 30D? With an IS lens (28-135) the deal comes in at around $2300.

has anyone had a sale from this site yet?

Thanks for the info

So, basically not a plug and play device for wannabe like me ...

Great discussion though

I noticed on the Kodak site they sell digital camera sensors. Is it possible to fit an after market Kodak to your camera?

Like can I stick a Kodak 7mp sensor in my old Canon 300D?
