« on: January 18, 2011, 10:40 »
if you submitted on Jan 14 you won't get the payout until Jan 24.  (assuming you are PayPal on the Monday schedule).

I got my payout on Jan 17, PayPal which I submitted by the deadline on Monday Jan 10.

Thanks Sue. I had a scan but I didnt see any mention of 0% royalties. Oh well, its only an xsmall. May as well kick back and wait for someone to wave their wand.

I woudl send in a support ticket if I were you.  It may be just one xsmall, but how many more could happen after that and you may not see them?  I wouldn't let them get away with keeping one penny after the BS they have been dishing out to us lately.

I am shocked, shocked I tell you that yet another thing broke just when they made other bug searches.

I'd be even more scared of credit card fraud.

PayPal is a pretty good thing in helping to avoid that.  They seem to be rather diligent and have a lot of guarantees for buyers and sellers.  but then, nothing will be foolproof.

check out ipowerweb.com for hosting.  there are a lot of hosting companies out there you can use for pretty cheap that give you a lot of space.  Godaddy nickle and dimes you to death (not to mention they have the most annoying marketing program around).

And be aware, as also mentioned, that as an exclusive, you're not permitted to sell rejected content elsewhere, even as RM, without permission.

As far as I know, you are !

Not according to iStock support.  I've asked.

geez, you'd think that iStock owns YOU.  I dont think the RM part is correct, they should not have control over you selling your other stuff as RM.  I would get another opinion on that.  Replies from support have been known to be incorrect.  Probably not on purpose, just someone replying who did not know for sure and misstated.
Apparently they have expanded their interpretation to the exclusive agreement to RM. It was meant for RF. This is so unfair.

If I were a conspiracy-minded person, I might wonder if the deactivating of images was broken on purpose, coming as it does, right as the lower royalties kick in....

Do you believe that the IS programmers would be technically capable of that? I doubt it. Something else would have stopped working instead.

hahaa.. that's exactly what I was thinking.  You're giving them way too much credit. It's incompetence, pure and simple.  I don't think I have ever seen a worse launch of a website than this latest F5. it's a never ending game of wack-a-mole.  this is beyond fail.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock
« on: January 12, 2011, 17:31 »
And here's another future Dreamstime customer posting of his problems at IS...

I posted in the keywords forum that they should be sending out e-mails with apologies and some suggested workaround for known problems to buyers to help get them through this mess. The response was that the forum thread with faceted search bugs was already there!

Aargh! I am so frustrated at the lackadaisical attitude about everything! Where is the professionalism or sense of urgency - or even compassion for the frustrated buyers?

Unreal.  Here's the text from Mediaworks:

Sorry guys.... no time to wait for whatever fix you come up with to correct what wasn't broken to begin with.
I'm off to Dreamstime with my dollars....

Does it strike anyone else as odd that buyers are able to mention the other sites they are going to by name now?  Those posts always used to be quickly expunged or edited by admins until recently.  Kind of adds to the sense that nobody's minding the store.

Yeppers, I noticed that too.

I figured I was just reading it too quickly, but I see it is still there.  weird.. maybe no moderator caught that?

I spotted a thread on the IS forum regarding deactivation of images. Guess what...that's broken now too. I am so pis*ed at all of this nonsense. Now I can't even continue deactivating my images.

It just worked yesterday and days before because I have been deactivating non-sellers for the past two months. The deactivated images were taking a week or two to be purged out of my portfolio, but at least if someone clicked on the image in my port, it took you to a deactivation page and the image couldn't be purchased. Now, nothing happens. I deactivate the image, but you can still go to the buying page.

If I were independently wealthy, you can believe I'd be filing a lawsuit. This is ALL just plain bullsh*t.

I'll save you the trip to iStock forums.. "I'm so sorry you are having trouble.  Please send in a support ticket."  or "We are aware of this issue and are working on it.  We will post an update soon."

Great detective work Sadstock.  Thanks for posting that.  Memory tends to fade.  I had forgotten exactly how ridiculous KT's assertions were.

yeah, thanks.. just when I was making progress on my therapy to forget that crap.  better call my shrink now...

oh how exciting.. cute new icons!

(I have nothing else to be excited about).

Did you see how messed up they are too? Some people who don't have any Flash files have Flash icons and for some, their icon is incorrect to the number of downloads they have for that category. Man, what a bunch of TOTAL mess ups. LOLOL

yeah, I have a flash icon though no flash uploads.. and I guess you need to clear your cache to see it.. or maybe the little icons just come and go.

actually, everyone who was originally approved to upload photos was also approved for illustrations and flash even if you never actually uploaded any of those.  now that they separated them I think we are all just being grandfathered in.  it actually is not a bad move so that those of us originally approved can now upload to those categories if we want without having to go through an approval process.  the only weird thing is that they didn't separate out my total downloads between photos and vectors.  which is fine as far as upload limits go, because if they do split them I would most surely drop below the "diamond" level for the two as separate categories.

Now we have contributors writing code to fix problems and giving the solution to the IS programmers - they should be asking how many RC's they get for uploading working fixes to the f5 failed code.

oh look, another epic fail.  Even people that want to buy something at istock can't seem to get in the door:

from this thread:

I refered a buyer to istock. They told me when they hit the sign up button it said something to the effect of "we are experiencing a high volume of new sign ups please try again later". Unfortunately they are not going to try again later they just went to another site and found the image there. Is this a known issue? Buyers signing up seems kinda like a priority.

seriously, they really need to get someone in there that can handle this fraud crap without affecting the real buyers.

how exciting.. more work arounds!  wow!  gee.. f5 just rocks!

actually, I uploaded last nite using Deepmeta and it worked fine, but have not tried it again this morning.  Guessing deepmeta already has the direct (work around) links set up.

hahahaah.. that's classic!

yeah, I am still getting the big screw, too.

don't worry.  precedent has already been set and you get to keep the money and all the RCs.   :)

I don't think they get to keep the money. I think iStock keeps the money. ;)

Last I read they were "thinking about" who got to keep the money. I took that to mean istock was keeping the money.  :-\

oh, so as it stands right now, contributors get to keep the RCs and double those for all the Vetta images since it was during the "double RC promo" (right?)  BUT.. the royalties have yet to be determined?  Does iStock really think that people will be happy as long as they get to keep their RCs and that the contributors dont care about the (potential) loss of the royalty they got from the fraud?

The changes help me not on iota. Neither as an indie, nor had I remained exclusive.

ditto.

598
I think I just threw up in my mouth.

the whole RC scheme is crazy.  and the numbers didnt really move that much.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1999508/Critiques/RC%20targets%20new%20and%20old.jpg

and I cannot believe that they let all those people keep the fraudulent RCs  -- do they also get DOUBLE for the ones that were Vetta??? completely unfair.  why not just put a sign up that says "unless you qualify for our Vetta program, we really don't give a shite about you."

has anyone ever seen a 5 or 10 credit file?  I was wondering what those look like for comparison?  I did some random looking and searching, but once my A.D.D. kicked in I went on to something else and never did find any files at those levels.
