iStockPhoto.com / Re: Anyone getting files reviewed?
« on: March 03, 2011, 07:56 »
A few of my files from the 22nd were approved overnight so that's on track with the approximate 8 day turnaround I've been experiencing as a non-exclusive.  There are still a few more files uploaded the same date that have yet to be reviewed so it remains to be seen if they'll sit much longer or will be reviewed today.

No activity for me but I keep optimistically adding to my small portfolio.  I'm glad to hear that someone is getting DL's - at least it means there are shoppers in the store!

There were some files that were uploaded between Jan. 25 & 30 that got stuck but contacting support was shaking them loose.

I'm not exclusive.  I had 2 files uploaded on the 17th that were accepted on the 25th.  More files uploaded on the 22nd are still pending but going on the same approx. 8 day turnaround I am not expecting them to be released for a few more days.

Software - General / Re: lightroom questions
« on: February 28, 2011, 23:21 »
I'm using a PC and I use a "right click" method to add photos to Lightroom collections.  I select the group of photos I want to put into the collections (holding shift key and select first and last photo to grab a group of side-by-side images, or holding control key I click on the random photos I want to add).  Once the photos are selected I move the curser over the collections area.  If you have an existing collection you want to add it to, hover over that collection title when you right click.  The pop-up window will give you the option to add photos to the selected collections, or to add to a new collection (or collection set)

And to everyone who has been opted in to the partner program and is getting a raise as a result of those who have stood firm against it:  You're welcome. ;)
And don't forget to thank us for fighting so hard for your raise.

Of course the best way to thank us is to actually follow our lead and opt-out now. You'll be doing yourself and your future business prospects (and that of many others) a big favour at the same time. It's obvious what the right thing to do is.

Done!  I had opted in when I started uploading last year, but stopped including recent uploads a few months ago.  Today I opted out on every image.

« on: February 19, 2011, 10:18 »
I tend to get reviews in 10 - 14 days at the longest but I notice that when I do get reviewed my entire batch of pending files will be reviewed.  I'll process a few and upload, then continue adding to them over the next few weeks and when the first batch hits the review point they will all get through.  I'm not uploading 200 files though, usually 2 - 7 a week right now so I may have 10 - 15 or so pending at any given time.

Two of 3 images uploaded on Mon. Jan 30 were accepted on Mon. Feb. 7 - the third one from the series is still waiting, along with a couple of recent uploads from this past Saturday.

I was just over at the forums and saw one thing that made me wonder... The forum index showed Lobo as the most recent post for the Discussion forum, but when I went to that forum he wasn't a recent poster on any of the top threads that had posts in the past hour or so (including stickies at the top).  Maybe he got his post deleted for going to far???

I recently read that anyone in the US that itemizes using 1040A or anyone with specific other deductions (something to do with teachers) has to wait until Feb. 15 to file anyway.  The IRS is still updating some of their programming to reflect changes to the tax code made in December.  http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110116083916AA7SpDo

I don't know why they have to be so cagey and mysterious about whether or not there are going to be more deductions. Either there are, or there aren't. Though this further lack of transparency is typical of their MO these days. I can't believe contributors don't get to know anything about any of their transactions with that company. It just smacks of them trying to hide something.

And anyone that gets even remotely close to the truth gets banned.

My guess is that the allusions to possibly needed to take more deductions indicate that they expect a round of deductions for January fraud, but given the current firestorm they don't want to come right out and say so.  It would just ignite the masses again.  Instead, they've hinted at it, and will let things die down, then send out the notices in advance next time.  Given the ineptness going on over there they may still be trying to figure out January's mess still as well, so they may not yet know the extent of it.  They are not yet ready to face an influx of calls from contributors trying to confirm whether or not some of their suspicious DL's in January were legit or not.  They may also have some legal counsel that is telling them to keep their mouths shut regarding future actions, status of investigations, etc.

Dreamstime.com / Teasing isn't fair!
« on: February 01, 2011, 21:25 »
I uploaded some new images to DT 5 days ago.  They have been in-and-out of "Image Under Review" four times in the past 48 hours!  Down to 27 hours now - the lowest I've ever seen before review and approval.  I'm wondering what happens if they hit zero without review.   ???   Not fair that the reviewers are being such teases this week - LOL.

Too new at this to have year-to-year comparisons but I did notice a few trends that were encouraging.  DT started getting regular DL's and I had some regular traffic at FT too, as well as IS and SS.  SS has been my best in the past and it was down a lot this month.  I attribute that to the fact that a good deal of my portfolio was Fall and Holiday.  Got a slow start uploading new content but I'm starting to see some returns for those images and so far, a 100% acceptance rate on the new images has been encouraging.

GLStock / Re: How GraphicLeftovers workflow works?
« on: February 01, 2011, 18:58 »
I've been having trouble with images using the site uploader.  Uploaded Sunday night and they never appeared.  Uploaded again last night and they showed up in the upload que.  They have all the data imbedded and usually go straight to the Pending Approval que.  I've processed them twice now selecting the Submit for Review button but they don't seem to move from over to the Pending Approval que and it's been several hours.  I was planning to give them til the end of the day then contact support if they are still stuck.  (same user name there and here - KLSbear)
I see them, and they have been there since your upload. Yes we did have a few hiccups on SUnday.

They don't go to Pending until they go through the content reviewer. Right now we have a logjam in queue but it is steadily moving. For some notes about how our system works, please see my more lengthy post from the other day above in this thread.

Thanks for the update.  I hang on until tomorrow and see what happens.  I've been used to them going right to Pending very quickly, bypassing the upload queue since they contain metadata.  I've been spoiled by the fast acceptances in the past!

i use a spreadsheet, agencies in columns, filenames in rows.  At each crossing, I I paint the cell green in approved, yellow when waiting review, red when rejected, no color when not submitted. Also write number of sales,  add a comment for ELs. Columns are thin to make cells square. Different subjects go in different tabs.

This is exactly how I do it as well.

I do something similar, and also attache a small thumbnail of the image at the top, but I'm finding it tedious and having a hard time keeping it up to date.  I like that database that was posted here by Karimala and I'm tempted to try to set up something similar in MS Access since I'm more familar with that program (thanks for the inspiration!)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stuffed toy copyright, etc.

The other side of it is Brand Protection.  If it's something clearly identifable the manufacturer wants to control how it's used.  Think of it this way - Nike wants to protect how their brand is used in any type of promotion, and probably won't want it used in something that represents, for instance, a questionable fad diet or exercise equipment.  It implys an endorsement that isn't there.

If it's a style that is easily recognized, ie: Vermont Teddy Bear, Boyd's, Beanie Babies, then it could be rejected but they are fairly generic, and in the background, it may be OK.  As a bear on a shelf or on a bed in a child's room I think it could pass.

I tried using it last night and it wasn't returning anything for Heart.  Seems to be down right now.  I hope it's fixed, and is included in his new site he recently mentioned was in the works.  It's a helpful tool and I'll miss it if it's gone.

Adobe Stock / Re: Bizarre support reply
« on: January 28, 2011, 10:56 »
I sent a note to FT through their "contact us" page, regarding a watermarked image of mine I found today.

They reply saying I should contact their copyright department, and gave me their email. Why don't support forward the message to the appropriate department?   ???

Perhaps if you send it you'll get a support ticket number for use in following up whereas if they forward it you'll be unaware of what's going on and not be able to follow up directly?  I'm guessing copyright issues are something they want us to handle directly with the correct department rather than the generic "contact us" department.  If that's the case they should include that info on their contact page.

If anyone has an Epson 1280 printer, I have two color cartridges that I'll give away as long as the recipient pays for the shipping (i.e. probably only would make sense in the US). This is the product. I replaced the printer last month and still had 2 color cartridges. Expiration date is 10-2014 so they're good for a while yet :)

I'll take you up on that offer if they are still unclaimed - I have a 1280!  Sending you a FM  :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Agencies with Fair Commissions
« on: January 24, 2011, 20:21 »
As the tiniest of fish in this pond, my opinions may not be worth much, but after doing this for a while and getting a few payouts, I'm starting to see SS as something like opium.   Yes I make steady sales there but they're virtually all 33 cents and I feel that by selling on SS we're all just creating our own dystopian future where there's nothing left but subscriptions and bottom-feeder prices.

If you compare it to a retail/manufacturer relationship, it's like selling to Wal-Mart.  You reduce your selling price but make it up on volume and efficiencies.  We may make less per image at SS, but if the volume is high enough you have a higher contribution to cover overhead and ultimately profit.  The danger is when the sites that don't offer the same volume think they can command the same low prices.  Additionally, it can be necessary to cut "ingredients" or quality materials (ie: props, models, etc) to support the lower costs, ultimately leading to a lower cost and lower quality product.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime - What is our percentage?
« on: January 21, 2011, 23:12 »
The discounts a seller gives to its customers shouldn`t affect the supplier at all.
......Or a Supermarket who suddently gives 30% off and pays then 30% less to CocaCola. This is not the way business works. We work with dreamstime as an intermediate, and not directly with the customer.

Actually, with retail supermarkets, it's worse than you suggest.  Suppliers are pressured to offer marketing programs that include heavily discounted merchandise to promote sales at various times throughout the year (hence the various sales you see in the weekly flyers), slotting fees are required to "buy" shelf space, as are slotting fees for placing new items into distribution centers.  Then there are the endless deductions from invoices - "damaged" goods, fees to unload trucks, late fees for late deliveries, the list goes on...  Please don't give the micro sites any ideas, they'd have us offering up discounts to move up in searches, charge us for ftp uploads, charge us for storage on their servers, oh, then they would charge for reports on our sales too!
