A new (old) bug has returned.  When more then 1,000$ on IS has been accumulated, the right panel stops updating with sales (no sound either), the top bar does.  Pictures accepted keep updating OK.

There is a simple solution to this problem, cash out!!! Why let IS hold your money interest free, don't they take enough already.  ;)

I have crossed a few time the 1k and it works for me Bob!!!

I have also started doing exactly what you do, I would wake up hit the streets shooting everything from trash to benchs to landmarks to brick wall to everything (and mainly to upload heavily) and yes the rejections were insanely high

Wrong approach, you forgot pets, skies, sunsets, shores and especially ducks.

And seriously, yes there are many interesting unplanned opportunities on a trip.

NO NO! I do have a few ducks and skies!! and they sell insanely!!

ahahahah photographers should be only woman and HOT (I can PM if anybody wants to see a few hot photographers all around the world)

5956
exactly we need to have the eyes always wide open and one more shoot wont hurt the memory card.. and can be a good pic!

Lisa

With the change in ownership; will you allow your contributors that have signed up as MLP member to change that status.  I am not interested in continuing my MLP status with the new ownership.

Do you have ITIN? Have you ever requested a payment? 3D Studio is the only agency following the taxes rules, all other agencies are wrong and stepping away of their obligations!

LOL come on guys!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Several of you suggested, basically, to take better shots.  I know how to do that.  And I may work some on that.   But I never want to make this feel like work.  For instance,  I know that I can get great shots around dawn... but that takes some effort that is borderline...not fun.  Even though I love some of the images that I get.   I know that I can take my 5 in 1 reflector with me to backlight, shade, diffuse, or color a shot.... but that means bringing my wife....who just LOVES to do that.  Or an extra stand to lug around.  I could research what is selling, think of a message, go to a place where I might find an image that would represent that theme... and shoot.   Too much work.

I like going to a fun place and letting the environment stimulate me to take shots as I casually walk around.

I think I am probably doomed to mediocrity.

But it is pretty easy to upload to more sites   ;D

Bob I know what you are feeling but you need to change your stock approach IMHO.. I have also started doing exactly what you do, I would wake up hit the streets shooting everything from trash to benchs to landmarks to brick wall to everything (and mainly to upload heavily) and yes the rejections were insanely high not only because I had very little skills and I know that some might sell one or two times but they will die sooner or later.. Have I stopped doing that?? maybe not 100% but I do not go and shoot everything (maybe because I do have a little of everything already) I tend to pick what would work better (or what I think it would sell better and more appreciated for reviewers)

My advice is regarding buying some lighting (a few strobes perhaps) and do other stuff from models to objects, isolated or not.. do something you never done and it will make you better photographer and more experienced.. sales will go up? maybe not that much but you will be more happy for sure and your approvals will go up too.. and with time and skills you will do fine, I am on the middle of somewhere here and I know that everytime I pick the camera I will do better!

Join the agencies I have told you, dont need to be like this week but with time try other markets beside the big ones but dont expect a lot from them :)

And HECK you have some amazing equipment!!

Canon 7d and now a 5DMkII with the following lenses: 10-20mm f2.8, 17-55mm 2.8, 85mm 1.8, 100mm f2.8L macro, 70-200mm f2.8L

I own a D90 a 18-135 and a 50mm!

well right a 2-3 seconds exposure will make everything white but will also burn a large part of the image.
The pictures in Istock are perfect I'm a contributor too I don't think they will ever accept a shot where a so large parte of the image is washed out...

open one or two of these at IS and you will see faces cut on half! :)

I have stopped uploading as limit has started. I am a full-time Stocker. If I can't upload my monthly production of 300-400 images, it makes no sense for me. So I have more time for other agencys. And I have reactivated I-Stock. Perhaps the better way.
I think upload limits are not professional. The only thing that should be assessed is the quality of the images.

Doesn't iStock have upload limits?

They do, and very strict ones for that matter.
Upload limits are a good thing.

sorry that doesnt make any sense, that means you are far from Sean even for a long time.... :P

A buyer realises Photo+ costs more than regular.
Either he/she buys image anyway, or buys another image from another contributor.
As a result some photographers earn more, some less - but IS wins on average.

lets think a little, 15% IS are exclusives, how many files in there?? 1/4 of all collection? buyers are used to exclusives files and their price so I guess they wont noticed that much unless they have lightboxes of pictures they want to buy or a really looking for cheaper ones (not that easy) unless they travel along pages as we know exclusives are on the first pages (not saying they dont deserve, heck they deserve!)

5963
hot women deserve better jobs not only in photography!!!

5964
exactly over and over and perhaps a little over exposure :)

grab your camera and go outside and make it 2 or 3 seconds everything is going to be white, magic!!

5965
dont ask me why and I am not "machist/whatever" but I always see photographers as man, dont see that often woman with cameras but actually it turned me on a lot  ;D maybe that because 90% of the woman that are photographers are hot :)

5966
panthermedia (they do deliver sales and some nice ones)
graphicleftovers (insanely fast submission, only upload and done)
depositphotos (starting to have some regular sales)
stockfresh (of course they pay a nice 50% and smooth upload too)
pixmac (have a smart portfolio, uploading at this moment there but I do feel they will become "good" and big ones are there too)
scanstockphoto (have only 17 sales but last two months have 7 sales and my last uploads were from Jan 2010, 1EUR per sale always)

5967
of course it is not directed to you, I am just saying how can IS and other agencies "run away" of their obligations regarding ITIN

5968
if I read WELL dont remember where IS is the agency that have more payments to contributors.. do you really think they dont know what they are doing? hmmm perhaps!

CC is awesome they even approved me a few files a few months ago and they are corrupted, missing part of the picture!

5970
If I was a interested buyer, I would surely verify on Shutterstock if I can find the same file for cheaper.

thats a good one, I guess IS should be only open for exclusives!

5971
cut on royalties back in September (a few months early announced) this one is just insane, we wake up and see this but this time looks like IS is going to share some of his greediness!

they are pretending to be SMART but they arent.. the similar picture was a problem but now there a few more for sure.. remove crappy pictures approved yesterday, last month, 2 years ago.. decreasing the upload slots is just ridiculous, if they dont want REJECT simple as that.. but I get them less reviewers less work less money and at the moment more money to them (and in future?).. they have enough so they can do what they want actually just like other agency

stock is a lot of fun, today is the photo+, too bad tomorrow is saturday but I am sure next week we will have something!!  ;D

5973
dont know I had 78 so I had 10% of my port.. all in, getting excited to see how it goes, worst perhaps dont care

5974
I also think that this may be positive.. I have placed a few of mine so far (not that I have big sales but why not trying..) but we do need to actually think of some because a buyer can go to look in cheaper pics, maybe not.. But I do believe that pictures that have less competition should be all photo +
