« on: March 13, 2013, 01:39 »
Seems more than uploads are broken at CanStock at the moment...not a single sale yet this month!!! 1900+ files online. This hasn't happened before, not looking good for March.
Like usual, experiences can differ dramatically between contributors. Having a great month so far with 17 sales and $52.90 already.

Wow, great for you Charl, glad to hear it. Sorry to take this off topic too!

Weird. And not cool for you!

GD has always felt clunky. There has been a 2.0 version in the wings for AGES now, but never seems to hit the prime time.

604
Thats interesting, I've noticed a few weird things with GD.

What are the conflicts between it and Digg Digg? I haven't noticed any on my site so far.

But I have noticed that Google has dropped my star ratings from search results, although I seem to have followed their rules?! Not sure what thats about, or if its a plugin problem. It worked to begin with.

It's not essential anyway, just a bonus. Or if you know of a better star rating plugin (or built in functionality for Symbiostock.....) I'm more than happy to hear it.

605
Brilliant! Thanks kona, you're the man :)

BTW - My mountain bike is a Kona Caldera. You're a talented man designing awesome Wordpress themes and sweet hard-tail bikes. ;)

Hope that banana peel doesn't keep you down for too long.

606
Have you found any problems with any plugins that we are likely to need?

If you like, why don't you give me a big list of likely needed plugins. Then I can make double sure. So far though it looks like there are no clashes. I name all my functions/variables so there are no collisions with other plugins.

You got me thinking more, and here are the names of plugins I use currently...

Comment E-Mail Verification
Digg Digg (although if you can embed social shares in the theme, that would probably be preferable to a plugin - thoughts?)
GD Star Rating
Google Analytics for WordPress
GTranslate
Simple 301 Redirects
Theme My Login
User Avatar
WordPress SEO
WP Super Cache

I dont expect you to test them all. Just thought it might give you an idea of the sort of plugins people are using.

Jan was a BME by quite a bit, but then Feb took a dive and March isn't looking great either.

I have also noticed a major slowdown on SS with Single & Other downloads and ED's compared with my average.

iStock...well, I can't believe how slow they have become. Without the PP it would surely drop to a Low Earner on the poll.

608
I think he said it will be free, but there will be plugins to extend it?

That's how I have understood it.

609
Hey kona, thats great, thanks for checking.

Really for me those are the crucial plugins, others are a bonus. I'm sure there will be others down the track but none that I can think of right now. :)

610
A good middle ground for both photographers and buyers as per your request would be GL Stock Images I would think. Give that a try. Prices in the lowest tier are cheap, and photogs retain 52% royalty.

611
This has been happening to me for months now intermittently, where I upload a bunch of vectors with a matching jpg, but they don't get matched properly by SS. Either it comes up with the "no corresponding jpg" error message when I go to content editor, or if that doesn't happen then the jpgs show up in the Editor but no vector.

Or another variation of the problem is it does occasionally match them correctly, but then creates duplicates of the vector.

I have tried both FTP and web uploader. Web seems a little more stable but still FAR from right.

How are you guys who deal with hundreds of vectors managing this? Or is it just happening to me....?

612
Nice Kona, so very keen to get started with it.

I was just wondering about compatability with popular plugins like WP Super Cache and Yoast SEO? Have you found any problems with any plugins that we are likely to need?

Hope I can get my hands on this before April, the wait is killing me! :)

Hey All,

The promotion is part of a pricing system change that is explained in our March newsletter which will be sent out soon, but we would like to clear the air beforehand so that you will have a better idea of it.

This was 123RF's previous image price list:
  • S size: 1 credit
  • M size: 2 credit
  • L size: 3 credit
  • XL size: 4 credit
  • XXL size: 5 credit

However, with the introduction of the new "ML size", we've made a following adjustments:

  • S size: 1 credit
  • M size: 2 credit
  • ML size: 3 credit
  • L size: 4 credit
  • XL size: 5 credit
  • XXL size: 6 credit

As you can see, all current prices of L size and above are to be sold at an additional 1 credit. In order to address the changes in prices to our client, we are offering them the ability to get the images at the old price before its final implementation, we've decided to run a promotion campaign until the end of March.

I hope this clears confusions you might have, and do feel free to PM me if you require any further clarification.

Regards,
Anglee

Hey anglee,

Thanks for commenting on this, it's appreciated.

It would  have been nice to get that newsletter perhaps before the change was made to put our minds to rest. Contributors are edgy these days with all the changes/cutbacks at agencies!

Also, I wholeheartedly support a price rise for the larger sizes, good move there.

Just a question - how does this ML size factor in to your RC system for contributors? How many RC's does it equal for us?

Thanks again.

123RF / 123RF Promotional Price Reduction - Did anyone know?
« on: March 05, 2013, 23:50 »
Just saw three large sales come in, and happened to check the file detail page (http://www.123rf.com/photo_7611716_wedge-tail-eagle-in-full-flight-on-blue-sky-with-copy-space.html) to see this..

Promotional price valid until March 31, 2013

(bit hard to display here, but the largest 2 sizes have been dropped by 1 credit each)

Did anyone know that our already low large sizes were being cut again for a month???

And also, on a different note, was there always a "ML" size available between Medium and Large, or is that new?

615
Same problem has returned. Man it's annoying.

Might have to start using DNG myself.

616
Kona it's looking great, I really can't wait to get my hands on it. I think this is going to be a winner for you (selling plugins etc for it) and for us all.

So incredibly keen to get my own sales platform happening with this....

General Stock Discussion / Re: Earnings in February 2013
« on: March 04, 2013, 19:14 »
After January being a BME, Feb was a let down. Basically made my monthly average, but no increase, despite adding new images.

Standouts were SS, DP improved for a BME, FT a BME and PD steady. Most others were average or below.

Here's hoping for a much better March! :)

618
Most definitely watching this with HUGE interest Kona.  Keep up the awesome work. Can only imagine how much work you have put in already, it's really appreciated. :)

Software - General / Re: D800 NEF's and Adobe Bridge CS5 Problem
« on: February 25, 2013, 03:02 »
Is there a reason you choose to always convert to DNG? Do you find a benefit?

Amazingly, after hours of working on this issue and no luck, I left it and watered the garden and did a few other things for a while and you wouldn't believe it...it works now. The only thing I can think of is I did this when I came back...copied the settings from one file (a jpeg edited in ACR) using alt + command + C and pasted it onto a NEF file and it worked. then after that normal editing worked again.

This is the second time I've had this issue (first experienced it about 2 weeks ago), and still no idea why it occurs and what has changed.

Software - General / D800 NEF's and Adobe Bridge CS5 Problem
« on: February 25, 2013, 00:41 »
Hope this makes sense, it's driving me NUTS!!

I have been using Adobe Bridge CS5 for years now, no real problems. Had my Nikon D800 for a few months, no problems either. Edited hundreds of files through Adobe Camera Raw via Bridge without issue. Now, all of a sudden, (without any Adobe updates or anything), Bridge refuses to keep any adjustments I do to NEWLY SHOT NEF files. Weird right? I can go back to NEF files I shot weeks ago and make changes, and yep, the changes stick and the preview shows them. But I go to a newly photographed shot (I've tried heaps), make some changes in ACR and click Done and Bridge doesn't reflect the changes in the preview OR even save them at all. If I open the same file back up in ACR, it's retained NONE of my changes.

This is ONLY affecting NEF files and only ones shot in the last fortnight. I can open any other files type in ACR, make changes, and they're fine. I can also convert my newly shot NEF files to DNG, and they work fine.

So... Any ideas PLEASE? I have reset all bridge options and ACR options. Purged caches. Repaired permissions (im on a mac). Nothing. I really hope someone can help as this is just insane.

Also, as a side note, is there any real downside to converting to DNG files for the time being?

Thanks everyone.

« on: February 20, 2013, 20:07 »
I uploaded 20 files yesterday, still haven't shown up yet. I can see them sitting in my ftp account at SS, but they just don't seem to be getting processed. Frustrating.

Sounds good to me. Do you think it will boost the number of downloads overall?

Just terminated my account with them on Feb 1st, just gotta wait out the 90 days now. No sales at all. No communication.

Last two months at IS have been terribly low. Last two months at IS PP have been just as bad.

There is no doubting some buyers have shifted elsewhere.

I think this deserves a Wooyay HOORAY!  Lookin slick!

Thats funny. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing everyone else "go crazy" on things creatively, make it their own, and professionalize it. Especially the front-end design. Of the people contacting me, there are a few designers who I can't wait to give this to.

Something else (sort of a huge priority since this really is a designerly crowd) is that I'd like to have a few "looks" available on click, and those looks can be further adjusted with color pickers, options, etc, without breaking the general continuity of the community's look.

I think this sort of thing is crucial. Since we can't use our own theme and plugin the functionality that you are building, then the theme itself needs to look great and highly customisable for those (like myself) with little to no CSS ability.

Hopefully the designers that you are in contact with can come up with something really great that will be a crowd-pleaser as well as allow for some variety between sites.

I gotta say Kona, this is shaping up to be the most exciting stock development for a LONG time.
