I am on a Mac. There are a lot of complaints about it on Google forums. Looks to be a problem for me after the last update a few days ago.  Worked fine before that.  The issue for me is that it also killed my stand alone CS6.

602
Was wondering if any other are having the same issue.  When I pull an image into Photoshop (any version including a standalone - CC & CS6) then run NIK Color EFeX Pro 4 (any filter) it starts to do its thing then inadvertently shuts down Photoshop.  I tried reloading Nik and that didn't work either.

It worked with Define, but not Color Efex.  Anyone else having the same issue?

I've learned early on that sending emails about how an agency could improve always hits a wall.  They really don't care what we think.  I mean, look at some of these agencies who are fixing things that aren't broke.  Look at Istock's survey from early in 2017. Did anything from those survey's change? Not that I can see.

You should be fine.  If there's automation involved, then it might be a problem. I can't recall exactly but I remember images being rejected that were different in composition but had the same keywords.  I changed some keywords and they went through. I don't recall specifically where that was and it was some time ago.   But agencies don't have policies about titles and keywords being the same.

« on: November 23, 2017, 09:16 »
I just sent an email to DT ripping them on their lack of refund transparency.  I get refunds all the time and got a bunch earlier this week.  Of course, no response, and I did not expect one either. It just felt good to write it.  Still, it has been happening for years.  "Due to circumstances beyond our control..........we are clawing back money from your balance and you can go fk yourself....oh and we apologize that someone stole your full resolution images.....NOT....."

No one cares anymore what happens or where this is going because it's so disappointing. Am i right???
I do care because I have a lot of skin in the game.  10 years of work, opening accounts, closing accounts, seeing where my work gets traction, moving to video to boost sales.....just a lot of time invested.  I think a lot of us are certainly disappointed, but I bet we all care what happens.  Frustration is driven by the vast amount of work we've all put in, and to see it go down is indeed disappointing.  I would say a better way of phrasing this is frustration.

I have never supplied iStock or Depositphotos, but I still suffer because others do.  The agencies do what they do because contributors do not discriminate.

The agencies do what they do because they want to give customers what customers want.

Customers will always be more important than contributors.

The agencies also do what they do because they are far larger than 99.9% of contributors. Individual contributors, on the whole, have no bargaining power.

There might be some cases where special arrangements are made for specific customer types, but agencies generally do not do what they do because customers want it. They do it because they are trying to create strategic advantages over the competition, and the go-to is always cheaper content.  Now, as a customer, I am going to say, "hey, if you want to sell me pics for 3 cents instead of 20 cents, yea, I don't mind at all." But I highly doubt customers are asking for cheaper content in today's micro stock world.  It is merely the agencies trying to attract new business and retain existing business by offering cheaper product - called market share strategies.

Fair points. But now we're on a different level of discussion. Getty is presumably in search of above-average returns by minimising the bargaining power of both suppliers and customers.

NB "Giving customers what they want" is broadly speaking, a more successful strategy than "not giving customers what they want".

Agreed, just trying to level set that customers arent screaming for a pennies discount. That is agency driven.  Onward.

Worse month of the year at IS.

They should have replaced it with a single question.

Do you want more money for the same effort?

1-Yes
2-No
3-I don't know

Money will not make you happy.

Kelly Thompson, Sept 9, 2010

AMEN to that. His comments still stick in my mind each time some agency tries to "create a new revenue stream" with some wonky scheme.  In the end the money we won't get is supposed to make us happy.

614
This is just Alamy being lazy...or perhaps greedy.  The lack of support for copyright violations, the lack of a clear process for contributors to follow shows you what they are really in the game for....money. Most agencies do not make it easy to protect copyright.  Some take action, but it takes you being a nag to get it done.  Others like Alamy don't care.  Deposit Photos is the same way. They have been caught red handed selling other people's work well after their account was closed.

Perhaps James will come into the forum and clarify.

Just stumbled across this thing...

https://mcfly.aero/token/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=sido_10per&utm_content=carusel_1&utm_campaign=pre_lounge

...which made me think of this thread. Cryptos... fair enough. Flying taxis... sure. But I'm still not quite getting how cryptos combined with flying cars will be so much better than either on their own. And I think they're being a bit optimistic on the market value for flying taxis. It says $1.2 trillion. That may be true many, many years in the future, but that's 8 times more than the current market for taxis... including Uber and all those type of things. It's not much less than the global market for cars!
Just watch your investment Fly away.......I'm old enough to remember when the year 2000 was the distant future that we'd all be using Jet Packs. I'd be wanting Uber to be in partnership with this to even consider it seriously. https://www.lonelyplanet.com/news/2017/11/14/uber-flying-taxis-la-dallas-dubai/

HAHAHA AMEN!. Party like it's 1999.....when I heard that I was like, wow, that is forever away...

Holy *.  Greed is greed. Block chain, blockhead, who cares.  If this were to take off it would HAVE TO BE RUN AS A CO OP in addition the being able to attract customers, in addition to having a differentiation for UE and enough content that attracts demand without having to sift through a billion similars, some of which is trash.....so how do you curate a blockchain site that offers content worth switching to for a customer, and how do you attract contributors and keep them happy by attracting business? Technology alone is only one small part of a successful model. If ss were to engage in blockchain do you think they would magically raise their commissions because they cut their costs? Not only no but fk no. So the only way to win is what i pointed out above and that is a lot to ask for.

General - Top Sites / Re: Predictions for december
« on: November 12, 2017, 09:15 »
My best prediction is that Christmas will come in December.

Depends, it's already past for some religions. Saturday, January 7, 2017 Orthodox Christmas Day 2018 - which is confusing as all heck. I'll stick to it's going to snow in the northern half of North America and more in Canada, lots more in Alaska and for sure on the North Pole.

I also predict that December will be the last month of the year, just to add to some of the other bold predictions.  :)

LOL Good response mr. Y.

Let's face it, GL is a small company trying to compete in a big world.  They will never yield any level of sales close to SS or even IS and probably even DP.  Look at Pond5, they supposedly got an infusion of cash to invest in the company and their marketing. I haven't seen any lift is sales.  Marketing is one thing, but effective marketing is another.  And marketing sustainability is yet another layer of difficulty to achieve because it costs even more money.  Very difficult to realize.  I applaud them for trying to stay in the game, but the probability of actually making a dent in the MS business is almost non-existent.

Yada wrote....."Are you surprised anymore when your computer locks and shuts down? When the web goes dead? When you get a site not found or 404 error?"

I dont know. It has never happened to me and if it did I can fix it or with a Phone call  have a guy here in 20 minutes..My wife also, she runs the Box Office around the world for all the major studios and If something isint right. It's fixed in a heartbeat. Doing Microstock is pretty low on our Joint priority Business Income List.. you can pretend you Love the Place all ya want. they could care less about you or anyone else. All I want is a site to be time and cost effective because I am.. all else is whining in My book.

And if it's on there side, then fix it, * it. I don't need anyone "Advocating" for me and change. I want them to do the Job "WE" pay for. * It. And I want smart people working for us. People that should have known to test this first.....Period. Yada,Yada.

I think what we're seeing is that Oringer was able to take advantage of a model that made him rich. However, running a company is not his strong point.  Good leaders know how to build a strong infrastructure, build a positive culture, has excellent integration of the business platforms and has a robust annual operating plan and also a long range plan. Just read everything that is spelled out on Glassdoor, the stuff we see happening now, etc. That is poor leadership.  Agree that downtime is simply part of business, but everything I see tells me that there is horrible leadership at SS, no plan that includes anything other than hitting numbers at any cost.  Good companies also build people, they build relationships, they build capability, they diversify. I bet their KPI's are different for each group within SS.  And those KPI's are in conflict with other departments.  An example of a mismatched KPI is I need to build more widgets that the customer asked for because it lowers my cost per widget (my KPI).  The distribution center need less widgets because it is really expensive to store those widgets; they have to have the real estate to store, and have to pay taxes on those finished goods.  Those are conflicting metrics.  When that happens, companies become chaotic. Stack horrible people management on top of that, allow cliques to form and have control, and no processes to form good SOP and cross-platform integration and you are going to get something tantamount to what we see at SS today.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Dreamstime Glitch
« on: November 09, 2017, 08:29 »
Has anyone else notice a glitch in Dreamstime once you have uploaded your photos and are in the commercial categorization page, sometimes the page will glitch and automatically check the "Sell The Rights" box and the "Use Recommended Price Box"? This is a problem if you don't notice this glitch take place and don't plan to sell the rights!

I've had the same thing happen and I ALWAYS make sure those are unchecked as part of my DT upload workflow.  They could just as easily default to unchecked, but they are hoping people don't bother with that so content can be placed into the various buckets.

Why?

Because they are hateful by nature

How can we not hate a site selling your images for 2 and reporting your sales after more that a month (when other sites report the sales in minutes)?

Please add, months or longer to the above. Files that were removed in December of 2016 were still being reported in Feb and March of 2017. I won't say I hate them, but I hate what they do. I resent the insults and the way they treat us as a group by lying and unfulfilled promises. Cut commissions, cut more, cut more.

If you never went to the forum it would be hard to see how Lobo reflected so clearly the position of the management. Rude, shut off questions, locked threads or vague promises of an answer coming just to put us off for more time. iStock and Getty paid him to be that way which was terrible artist relationship management. Why would any of us be happy with that rotten treatment?

Overall just horrible communication with artists and some kind of twisted viewpoint towards us as their ignorant needy slaves. I'm not so desperate that I will take abuse from an agency just because they drop some spare change on me from time to time. There is an issue of personal integrity and not being willing to take their overall abusive and rude condescending superior attitude.

I had an email from Lobo once threatening to revoke my forum privileges because I called them out on an image which they rejected for copyright - it was money.  I called them out because shortly after I uploaded my image there was one almost exactly like mine from an admin.  I was pissed and made a stink of it publicly.  He was a rude POS and deleted my posts.  I'm sure to hide the hypocrisy they practiced so well.
