Alamy.com / Re: Some questions regarding Alamy
« on: February 14, 2018, 14:14 »
You might lose some sales from images that are on Alamy and the micros - that is they might sell for cents instead of $$. Of course if you just leave them on only the micros, they will never sell on Alamy instead of maybe sell a little less than if they were only on Alamy. Is it worth the trouble to upload your micro images there - I don't know, that is something you must decide based on how well you think your images might do and how long it might take to upload them there. Sales on Alamy for me seem to be a pretty random event and I have no ability to predict what might or might not sell - so I would have no way to decide which images should go to Alamy instead of the micros if I thought that having them in the micros would sabotage sales at Alamy.

Also the Alamy license might be closer to an EL at some places, so take that into consideration when comparing sales.

Dreamstime.com / Re: How to edit my pics
« on: February 12, 2018, 21:10 »
go to my account - online files, go to the image you want to change (you can search by keyword or image number) and then click on the title of the image you want to edit. Make your changes and hit "submit".

Adobe Stock / Re: Indexing in Adobe Stock vs. Fotolia
« on: February 10, 2018, 23:18 »
while you are reading and answering questions, is there any way to get useful statistics on sales - like how many sales for how much in a given month on Adobe - or else a way to open up access to the Fotolia interface for all? I am pleased to report I have enough sales that I really don't want to have to add them up by hand (of course that is anything more than 1 sale for me).

I guess the really big unknown is how will google change their image search to benefit getty or push down non-getty.

Also I wonder if getty got some big $ as part of this, and the actual image usages will be for less (and that is what will get split in the usual getty unequal way).

I have one sub on the 28th or the 27th, who can tell with how they report it. About par for the course this month - absolutely pathetic number of sales.

I had that problem with some mani stones. I provided a translation, but they still didn't take it - it was a vague rejection, so who knows what they were really rejecting (like most of their rejections - too filtered or not filtered enough sort of rejection). I think a lot of them are just automated or perhaps the reviewer gets a potential automated rejection for non-english keywords and a lazy reviewer just accepts it.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Multiple EL Requests
« on: January 29, 2018, 01:10 »
What you get for an EL varies widely. I think the lowest I have received per credit is on the order of 11 cents, but that is the extreme end of huge credit purchases on a level 0 image. I rarely get much more than 50 cents per credit, so that means your 50 credit EL sale would be somewhere between $5.50 and $25 with the possibility of a bit more. Realistically probably more in the $10 to $20 range. If all these requests are real, then they will most likely be from someone who is buying a massive credit pack which tends to push things to the lower end of the range. I very much doubt that all these EL requests are real though.

I'm surprised Getty hasn't done this with Istock - Getty takes 80 % and then Istock takes 85% of what is left and from a $100 sale they pocket $93 and the artist get $3.

I wonder if any sites have a 3 distributor chain yet - all taking their cut.

Alamy.com / Re: Success stories on Alamy - the $100,000+ club
« on: January 26, 2018, 11:42 »
Alamy was my best site last year (yes, beating SS - Alamy was up, and SS down a lot). Still, 100K total gross is not all that impressive over up to 15 years or possibly more - not that I am close, but I am not all that dedicated.

To get to the 100K gross on Is you would only get 15K total for yourself, more like 30K at SS, and closer to 40 to 50K at Alamy (depending on if you get distributor sales and how many).

It is good to see them posting here - and keeping an eye on what we might be posting.

« on: January 21, 2018, 19:22 »
I wrote them about the files not showing up - with details of which files didn't show (it was all the ones submitted before a certain date). I think I got a form reply - something like thank you we will look into it. I checked again a few weeks later and they were still missing. Then the next time I checked they were back. I don't know if they actually fixed them based on my input or if it would have happened anyway. Sales most certainly didn't go up 30%. More like they dropped through the floor.

They never recovered or doubled sales like they promised when they started the RC nonsense. December was pretty bad but so far this month is just pathetic. (less than canstock pathetic, under 1/10th of Dreamstime, multiple days in a row with no sales pathetic). I think the only sites lower than them are GL, FP, and SF. They used to make it into my top 4 from time to time. I don't know what has happened to them, but it isn't good. I'll have to decide what to do if I drop a level which will happen with a few months like this one.

Last year I discovered 1/3 of my port wasn't showing up. They fixed that in December as far as I could tell, but the sales are worse than ever.

I had a double sale and then about an hour later one was refunded (of course they couldn't tell me why the refund because that would just be too hard for them). If I hadn't seen the double sale I wouldn't have known why.

"Due to the high volume of daily transactions, we cannot provide additional clarification on the refund performed. Measures are always taken for the licenses to be withdrawn and images deleted. Any subsequent unlicensed usage is liable to legal action and penalties.

I got the PFO letter today (application denied). I finished my application Oct 11, 2017. I can't say it was a great surprise after all the other rejections, but it would have been nice.

I would not discount the vagaries of what happens on the sites - delays in indexing, search changes, and someone else uploading a flood of similar content (or not) right after you can all have a huge effect on how well an image sells. Unfortunately there isn't a lot we can do about it other than upload more so that those effects get averaged out.

These things can happen in our favor or against them. I know of instances where this worked in my favor, and I suspect ones where they went against me.

The more your images are unique and in demand the more they will sell no matter what the agencies do or don't do.

Pond5 / Re: Can not FTP to Pond5
« on: January 14, 2018, 13:02 »
It wouldn't connect via ftp for me, then I poked around on the P5 site and saw the ftp server had changed, so I changed that, but it wouldn't accept the password I tried to put in (nothing happened when I submitted it). I think a new browser solved that. Then ftp via FileZilla worked.

"Old images don't sell like they used to"

This is the exact opposite for me. ONLY the old images sell (and well)! No point on uploading new work anymore. New work never sees the light of day sadly ...

Even when it seems like all of the sales are of old images, they still don't sell like they used to. I went back and opened up the sales from 2012 and it was pretty eye opening how many more sales I had back then with a lot less images (and I'd like to think at least some of the new ones are better quality).

I have seen no real evidence of sales capping - my month to month results vary probably +- 30%. Maybe I am too small potatoes to get capped? I have certainly seen a good sale day or a big sale followed by crap days, but saying you get 2 good days and then a crap day means that after the first good day you had another good day... I am not saying there aren't all sorts of behind the scenes shenanigans with the search - location, image size, age, possibly contributor level. I want to know how the caps are set if they exist. So many people talk about caps - but then say they are up or down a certain amount - usually something significant. If they really had a set income for you, then the people that stopped contributing would still make that amount month after month - unless it is tied to recent upload #s, in which case that would be a different story.

644
I'm still waiting for the doubling of sales they promised... well, I am not waiting really, but it hasn't happened.

Last fall I discovered that about 1/3 of my portfolio didn't even show up anywhere. They fixed that, but sales have still been pretty dire. Last Dec and this month are particularly weak.

2015 was my best year, followed by 2012 (when I think they decided that 50% was just too generous).

645
Would you be guaranteed sales or are you going up against a bunch of submitters and some might get a sale? It seems like you should just call Amex and charge 20% less than Getty and keep it all. (I'm sure Getty doesn't think that is a good idea though)

646
They definitely fall into the fire and forget and only when I have some time category. Their rejections seem pretty random, but I stopped trying to figure them out. There is no way I would spend any extra time trying to change something for the level of sales they have.

647
Since humans are apes, that will severely restrict their collection.

648
Nice idea, but there may not be enough exclusive contributors that are active on this forum to provide useful poll results. Best wishes...

No kidding. I think this is not the forum to be positive about IS/GI and share the positive results. It's more a forum where the same 30-40 people whine incessantly about everything and anything related to IS/GI and skin you alive if you think different.

And it's sooooo unjustified, as Getty is all Heart:
"The Culture of Getty Images
Our Leadership Principles
We want to attract candidates who embody a personal commitment to the following Leadership Principles. These principles define the kind of company we aim to be and form the cornerstone of everything we do:
Trustworthiness, Transparency and Openness. We insist on honesty, integrity and openness.
Raise the Bar. It is incumbent upon us to increase our standards of performance and strive for excellence.
Lead by Example. We are stewards of excellence and consistently demonstrate our values.
One Voice. Collective responsibility must be embraced.
Bring Me Solutions. Identifying a problem is important, but finding the solution is far more valuable.
No silos. Its not their problem its our problem.
The Obligation to Care. We must truly care about this business and our colleagues.
At Getty Images, these principles are not just slogans but deeply felt statements that identify what we value and what we practice."

Once you realize that it is opposite century for Getty it all makes sense.

Are there any ways to get statistics on Adobe if you can't get into Fotolia - you know things like sales per month and that sort of thing?

As the indy contributors leave or stop uploading they need to screw the exclusives that are no longer getting propped up by the screwing of the indies. Gradually everything will go to 20% or less.
