Selling Stock Direct / Re: WordPress Plugin - Sell Media for StockPhotos« on: February 14, 2013, 00:35 »
if it helps at all stockmn, I have played with the Sell Media plugin a bit and the first thing I noticed was it REALLY depends on what theme you have running. On one theme it had major conflict issues, that even managed to extend into the Dashboard/Admin area! On others, not so bad, just some display issues that CSS would probably fix.
My project is on hold until Kona's theme, the other software being written by elvinstar is finished, and then Sell Media will be a little older and well tested too. Then have 3 possible solutions to consider before moving forward. 628

Can I just say after 16 pages of discussion on this...
Wow. I'm still stunned. There's been some great explanations and possible underlying strategies from iStock's point of view mentioned, but still....Wow. 2013 in stock is going to be interesting to say the least 629

In the poll results on the right - has iStock ever been so low before?
Surprised someone hasn't started a poll - "In which month during 2013 will iStock drop to Middle Tier...?" Glad to hear some are having a good February though across the sites. 630
General - Top Sites / Re: Is it just IS or are sales down drastically across the board?« on: February 13, 2013, 20:18 »
Jan - BME by quite a bit!
So far for Feb - probably below average. Quite a big drop, IS is almost inactive. 631
General Stock Discussion / Re: The single most annoying thing?« on: February 06, 2013, 02:08 »
You've worked hard for ages and are about 3 months off from making the next (tiny) jump in royalties, when they magically decide it's time for a pay cut for their contributors. Now when you make it to that next royalty level, you'll be earning LESS than before!!

Pond5 / Re: Photo Pricing for Pond5« on: February 06, 2013, 01:46 »I see your $525 and raise you $260! Image source is at $785 Wow! You always gotta win jsnover.. ![]() I humbly withdraw my measly $525 ![]() Is this kind of revealing though do you think? Is there something in this? I mean, should we be making the most of sites like Pond5 and trying to turn them into midstock type markets, like these big guys are doing? I've noticed with video for instance on P5 that many sell for $50-ish, but then there are lots for $500 too. And they are making sales! Where is the balance between not killing P5 by making things too high to get sales, but making the most of an opportunity such as a site that lets you set your own price and gives 50%? If I knew how to make a poll I think this would make for an interesting one... "What should be the price per size on P5?" 633
Pond5 / Re: Photo Pricing for Pond5« on: February 06, 2013, 01:22 »
Just for interest sake (not that I'm recommending it), blendimages have their images priced at up to $525!

Pond5 / Re: Photo Pricing for Pond5« on: February 05, 2013, 23:25 »
Just another thought, I've seen quite a few people on Pond5 selling their high-res images for amounts like $3 and $5, for full 21mp+ files...Unbelievable...!
Pond5 is giving us the opportunity to set our own market price, and then some are of their own volition joining the race to the bottom?! I don't understand the logic. We would be all over Pond5 if they set the prices for us and had them at $3 or $5 for max file size. Let's not turn P5 into another site that operates only on "cheapest images around" type mentality, we've got enough of those already. Just my 2cents.. 635
Shutterstock.com / Re: Changes to the Referral program« on: February 05, 2013, 18:47 »
Not good. This will hurt a LOT of people.
Surely the least they could do is grandfather the existing referrals as lifetime, since that was the agreement in the first place. 636
Pond5 / Re: Photo Pricing for Pond5« on: February 05, 2013, 18:45 »
As has been said, I don't believe they have EL type licenses yet, so include that when factoring in your pricing.
I personally feel $10 on a site that allows us to set our own prices is too low. Why should we willingly choose to sell at a low-ish price? Just think what customers are paying in $$ terms at places like iStock for Vetta files. Also, it seems that the scaling of file sizes and prices works best if you have very large files (say, over 20-25mp). If they are small to begin with, it doesn't break down the sizes too well and you end up having a blog size image for only 2 bucks less that your biggest high-res size. Personally I have been setting all my images so far at $12 (for 8-12mpx files) and they have been selling. Now with my new D800 and the bigger file sizes, I will be setting them at something like $20 for the high-res from now on. Hope that helps 637
Symbiostock - Development Area / Re: Selling RF Images is Really Not That Hard. PHP Developers Wanted.« on: February 05, 2013, 18:39 »
Thanks Kona, I appreciate your comments. But what I was really asking was is there a simple way to get something like Amazon S3 running, through wordpress, in conjunction with your theme? Or to put it another way, will your theme's functionality allow the high-res files to be stored on S3 servers and delivered from there? Thanks again. I'm dying to get started on rebuilding my site, so I can't wait for you and elvinstar to have your products ready for us to try! ![]() 638

Symbiostock - Development Area / Re: Selling RF Images is Really Not That Hard. PHP Developers Wanted.« on: February 04, 2013, 22:13 »Technical question, if anyone cares: Does anyone know anything more about integrating this solution into wordpress, as this would seem to be the ideal solution to my current situation - want my own direct sales site and about to make it, but don't want to pay my hosting company heaps more for all the extra GB's of storage for thousands of high res files. The S3 option would be much cheaper I would think. I'm not a developer, so don't know the technicalities of it all. Just wondering if there is any easy way to get this to work in WP, perhaps along with Kona's theme or the Sell Media plugin? 640

Something weird going on for sure. Above Pond5, Envato? No way.
Lucky to get a couple of bucks a month. Keep really hoping for things to improve there, decent site, good commissions - but just seems to be stagnant. 641

Very interested in this also Kona, I am just on the brink of doing a total redesign of my own site to make it a direct sales platform.
I was about to use a WP theme plus the Sell Media plugin, but I am very keen to see what you have got in the works before I proceed. Any ETA? If I can help beta test or anything I would be happy to. I run a couple of WP sites already. 642

123RF / Re: Wrong Royalties - Check your stats« on: January 11, 2013, 02:37 »123RF is having again a BUG in reporting the sales, my balance just dropped and there were no refunds, how can we trust an agency this way? Thats it in a nutshell luis, when agencies implement bad moves in such poor ways, it totally destroys any contributor confidence that might have been left. 646
123RF / Wrong Royalties - Check your stats« on: January 11, 2013, 01:51 »
Check your downloads page everyone, mine has just changed all my download royalties to LEVEL 1, despite showing my correct level on my Account page.
It was correct up until today, but something has changed and all my downloads for January are now being accounted as level 1's. I have emailed 123RF, but you might want to check your stats as well. 647
Bigstock.com / Re: BigStock Using Credit Pricing« on: January 10, 2013, 01:03 »
Yeah I agree jsnover, seems like communicating poorly with contributors has caught on at many sites. Although today there was a major outage at Envato, and they did an excellent job of keeping the community informed I must say.
Don't think this change at BigStock will make a big difference, just wish they had of let us know about it. 648

Bigstock.com / BigStock Using Credit Pricing« on: January 09, 2013, 18:21 »
I just noticed that BigStock seem to have changed their pricing from being in dollar amounts to credit amounts. Eg: It used to show $2.99, $5.99 etc for different file sizes - now it just says a round number that is much lower than the previous dollar amount.
Think this will make much of a difference for them in terms of sales? |
