Dreamstime.com / Re: Sell the rights question
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:14 »
Yeah I did already have the money spent :p  but I slept on it and decided not to do that.  It's like an incredible hassle to do that.  Maybe DT should have it set only for images that are exclusive to them for sell the rights only but eh too much to ask probably.  The more I thought about it last night the more I didn't want to do it so I'm not.

Thank you all for your comments.  This kind of stuff makes me nervous.

Thanks lagereek.  Quick question though...how do I get DT to help with something like this?  This is the first time I've done this.

Thanks.

Dreamstime.com / Sell the rights question
« on: September 07, 2011, 22:44 »
I received an email earlier from the DT site that a potential buyer wants to purchase exclusive rights to an image that is my best seller across nearly all sites.  I've not received a request like this before so I'm not sure what to do.  How much do I make it for and isn't it a 50/50 thing with that on DT whatever I set the price to I get half and they get the other half right?

I just don't know what to do what to set it for.  I was thinking $6,000 so I could get $3,000 and have dental work done.  I don't think I would want to price it any lower than that.

Anyone have any decent experience in this and was it ultimately worth it?

Thanks in advance,

Anita

What program do you guys make your graphs with?  I've got Excel but don't think they have the capability to make nice graphs just flat ones.  Then again I haven't really messed with that function too much either.

Wow!  Thanks for all the information in the thread.  Never did know how the net revenue page worked till now.  I just thought my numbers were right and their numbers were wrong.  Turns out it was the other way around.  So thanks to you all I now know what I'm doing :)

*!  Wonder why they take so long to clear on those particular types of sales.

I looked over my balance of account page and all I see are novel use (all cleared), and the rest of them that happened in August just say Sale nothing about distriburtors at all.

I wish they'd make that section of the site easier to read and find out what I'm actually looking for as far as my stats are concerned.  A bit of a pain to figure this out.

All around totals for August were my BME by a long shot.  I hope September continues into an upward trend.  Could use some good after a bad June and July.

My top 4  SS, Alamy, Canstock and Dreamstime.  Out of those the first 3 are BME.

I go a little more in depth on my blog.  Though I don't do statistical data (that stuff makes my head hurt) still might get something out of it.

My micro production has been down due to my kids going to online school (that and my obsession with Stargate Atlantis on Netflix).  I'm working on a way to find a balance between the school stuff, house stuff and stock stuff.  I'm hoping my workflow for stock will increase from August in September.  Just need to find the time to do it all.

Hi Freedom.  I don't think I have any distributor sales.  Would somewhere on the Summary of Images Sold page it would say distributor or distrobution sale?  I ask because I'm not sure.

Thanks.

Okay I think I've figured it out by looking at the balance of account page.  I take the total of the actual sale and minus their commission for it which will leave me with what I earned for that image?  Is that correct?  So if that is correct then I get 60% and Alamy takes 40% right?  Man I hope I'm right because I'm tired of looking at those figures.

Hi, do you submit your vectors to Alamy? How is the sale of vectors on Alamy? thanks!

Hi sobm :) Actually you can only submit large raster (jpgs) on Alamy no eps files as of yet.  I've done okay with 9 sales there since I started in January of this year 3 novel use sales and 6 royalty free sales (all the RF sales were in August).   I haven't tried to upload any photos there (well I did but it gave me an error about not being the right size or something) might try to figure that out one of these days to see what happens with it.

If you decide to upload I wish the best of luck to you :)

So I'm trying to do my end of the month earnings and can't quite figure out what my August balance on Alamy is.  Because the balance brought forward doesn't match what I get when I add all of it up up and subtract all but August from it.  There's like a $30 difference between the two ($30 more on Alamy than the number I've come up with).

Can anyone pretty please alleviate my confusion because right now getting this amount right (aside from another site with a $.75 discrepency I need to track down) is keeping me from getting it done.  I just want to be accurate for next years taxes.  This month is being a pain with it.

Thanks in advance,

Anita

Is VectorStock down? I can't access the site.

Try the firefox browser.  I thought the same thing once the notice of a new site design was announced.

Lets see site doesn't work in IE9 only Firefox.  Firefox is my secondary browser (I only use it when I need to), IE is my primary.  Not everyone uses nor has Firefox.

They recently changed how they want images keyworded but failed to let me know about it until I got 2 rejections for keywords.  No multiples of the same keyword use only one but what they didn't tell me is which one they wanted.  I also haven't contacted support with this I've been too busy the last few weeks.

I am curious to know if anyone else has run across this type of rejection say within the last month or so because that's when it started happening to me.

« on: August 23, 2011, 13:55 »
Been discussing this ad nauseum with the boyfriend for the last week.  I told him what was going on and said that I'm thinking of closing my account there.  With our discussions (and taking into account what we're financially going through right now) I've decided not to close my account there.  I do get payouts there 2-3 months but will monitor how long it will take to reach the next one.  I am, however, stopping uploads for the time being.  New stuff really isn't selling there for me at all and until that changes no new content from me is going up there.

Now if I had my other sites sustain me with regular payouts then yeah I'd be outta there in a heartbeat.  Or if I made a target amount each month then I would be outta there.  But right now I can't quit until we get our financial things under control.  So yeah no feeding the theif for me either.

I think I'm probably going to close my account too but right now on the fence.  Definitely not uploading anything else to them that's for sure.  I'll have to talk it over with my man to see if he can give me some help with it.  Since micro is my only income right now I have to figure out what is best for me.  And yeah I already know this slightly contradicts what I said the other day but I also don't want to make this decision lightly.

If it weren't for this place I'd not known about this going on because I never got the * email from that site and I am on the mailing list.

Wow I must not be good enough to even receive the * email from them regarding this.  Can't tell you how much I enjoy being treated like a POS.  They roll that out they can say bye-bye to my port.  Course they probably won't care if a small fish like me leaves.

July was craptastical and August is slow for me as well.  Not all the kiddies are back in school yet some start this week others don't start until September so maybe things will start to look brighter in September.  That or I just don't have what buyers are after right now  ;D

New Sites - General / Re: GL stock images

From reading the news thingy on the site we will still control how our stuff is priced.  I have all of mine set to $6 and a few at $10.  Looks like it could possibly be only $6, $10, $15 and we can control the licensing on each image as well.  Wonder if the URL is gonna change too and how that will affect referrals.

I had another thing I wanted to say but lost my train of thought.

Ditto.  I upload the eps and preview jpgs first in one batch then upload the large rasters in another batch.  They're the only site we have to do this too (well the only one I have to do that to) that sells them as separate files.  They don't sell as much as vectors do but I did manage to get an EL on a raster there earlier this month so yeah definitely worth it.

What I don't get is that if you know a thread is the same ol sheet different day why open them why read them?  I ignore a lot of threads that have nothing to do with me or with a particular agency.  Once in awhile I'll take a sneaky peak to see what the fuss is about then once I get the jist of it I go to something else that might interest me.

Don't like it...don't read it (and I'm pretty sure that's been said before so I'm just repeating now :P)

My last 20 shows 10 are subs and 10 are credits.

Now if August could turn out like April did for me I won't be complaining not that I'm complaining now since it's only August 5th.  Give me about two weeks though :P

*raises hand*

I'm one of those "No...but I'd like to in the future people"

My biggest thing is trying to get it started.  Right now I'm on a free webhost with limited space and only one db unless I upgrade (which I can't afford to do at the moment).  I'm not sure how I want to go about setting up a section what to use as far as payment gateways and whatnot.  How to handle licensing it's just a lot of things I don't really know about.  I did have a zen cart set up a few years ago but found the digital download part of it clunky and obtrusive and I'm not sure they've changed that part to run smoothly.  That and it was a pain to set up (couldn't argue with the free price though).

I also thought about trying to make artwork or take photos that aren't stockworthy but more artistic but I started out in stock and can't find my artistic ability at all  :P

I know how to layout a website and code just making it where it looks professional enough is throwing me.  That and it's pretty scary to boot.

@ Anita,
Thanks! I used Firefox and it worked like a charm (kind of a pain though as I really like the newest IE and it is my default browser - great web dev tools).

Can't see that the new VS sales graph is much of an improvement, but I did enjoy getting paid. ;D

Same here IE 9 is my default browser and only use Firefox when I absolutely need to.  I find that graph harder to read because of the pastel colors.  I have yet to make payout there...then again they've only got 95 of my vectors and that's all they're gonna get :P

650
The graph needs Firefox to be seen and yeah sometimes the sales don't show for like a day at the bottom of the page.  Sometimes it shows up sometimes it takes 24 hours.
