On this topic, I recommend this channel:

Some of the interactions between this guy and the scammers are hilarious!  ;D

Jan 2022 income up 8% compared to January 2021.

(USD comparison, not including exchange rate)

Similar here: SS earnings for Jan were 10.7% better than last year, and the total MS income for Jan was 12.3% better (and second-best January ever).

Redeemed!

Thank you, Mat! Thank you, Adobe!

I must admit that I'm only using 3 apps out of the 43 (ooh, actually 4, if I include Adobe Acrobat for PDFs). But anyway, thank you so much again!  :)

I am over the payout threshold and I just deleted everything.
Deleting hundreds of images one by one required perseverance, but it's done.

I'm increasingly getting those 0.25$ footage sales on Shutterstock. In fact it applies to most footage sales these days. What's happening and where is this going?

There's a reason why many of us no longer sell our work through Shitterstock. Maybe you've just discovered it?
Below is the reason why some of us are still selling our work through SS.
Maybe you could've discovered it?

AS AN ASIDE, I am a great believer in capitalism and a free market economy, BUT and here is the BUT, like all systems, it needs reforms and updates as time ticks by

Nah, you are not.
You are simply a late believer in Marxism and its outdated class struggle ideology.

Personally, I don't give my talent away for FREE, but, you obviously believe that YOU are quite happy to do this or you have no talent, either way it's your lose.

Lucky me, I have zero talent to give away for free!  :-*

I had to laugh at Martha's school experience.  ;D

Dope was a stupid person. Later it was Heroin. But in the hippie era, it was marijuana. They dope horses to alter their performance. When I was a kid, Dope was paint for cloth sealing on model kits. And I don't know how long, but the straight dope was inside information. Now Dope is something good... I guess if someone was looking for a word with many confusing and different meaning, that might be one?

But of course we can just blame the Dutch. (In any case where we can't blame Canada, an ethnic group or minority group, how do the Dutch get attributed with these odd definitions so often?)

Dope comes from the Dutch doop, meaning thick sauce and used for various types of gravy in English in the early 1800s.

Well if that isn't the best gravy, it's really dope!  ;)

"Disgusting". It actually begins to mean "very good".

"This player is so good, it's disgusting!"  ;)

As long as it's not our Dutch Heineken, I don't care.    ;D

Thijs, do you know that we in Germany call Heineken "Grachtenpisse" (dutch canal pee)  ;)

Seriously, you guys have excellent specialty brews. However, you think in smaller dimensions. While we drink away half liters here, you sip on your 0.2 liter glasses (klein biertje flutje)  ;)

4 brewery CEOs in a bar, after a conference:
The CEO of Heineken: "A Heineken, please!"
The CEO of Amstel: "An Amstel, please!"
The CEO of Grolsch: "A Grolsch, please!"

"And you, Sir?" says the waitress asking the Leffe CEO.
"Same for me, a glass of water, please".

You're even worse than Ralf.

Why? I don't think he ordered tap water.  :P

Not half, but definitely down.  Last year about 230/mo slowly declining to now about 160/mo.  SS is now my worst performer.

These are gross earnings, I presume, right?

Get Microstockr and you will have lifetime earnings for each photo (total, per agency, per year, etc)

Thank you.  I am aware of microstockr, but was wondering if it was possible with AS native interface.  Their UI is quite minimalistic, which is inline with general UI company philosophy
Actually, I am expecting more from a software giant. A small mom & pop shop like Microstockr is outperforming them.
Even more, there is no AdobeStock app to check all this without waiting forever for the browser to load.

My highest photo sale on SS this year was $100 when I was level 3.

I'd be interested to know when you uploaded that image and what you think makes it stand apart so that it can fetch such a good price.

Annie has talked previously about it being worthwhile uploading 'high quality' (ie mp/size) images.  Was this the case with this one?

I'd also be interested to know if you have such successes with images uploaded in the last 12 months or so.

The photo was made in December 2014 and it has about 23Mpx.
I didn't upload much last year, so there is nothing much to say about the performance of what I uploaded in the last 12 months or so.  ;)

btw Top 3 photos on AS in term of downloads - is there any way to find lifetime $$ amount?  Insight interface allows only 12 months back

In January so far first 8 days my Adobe port, 30% smaller than SS port, earned 7x more.  For calendar 2021 Adobe earned 2.5 times more compared to SS.  This is not coincidence.  The difference between Adobe and others is that Adobe has intellectual approach in how they structured this side of company business.  They also respect contributors;  ....

correlation is not causation - no evidence AS approach leads to greater sales - eg, my AS sales are consistently about 50% of SS, with same images uploaded, at same time, to both sites

ignoring fact that an 8 day window is hardly significant when sales are spotty at best

Agree.
For the whole 2021, SS accounted for 38% of my revenue, while AS was the second best with 29%. This makes AS revenue about 76% of SS.
It's also fair to add the free Adobe apps, but it's only a small percentage of the total sales, and will not change the above ratio significantly.

https://ideas.ted.com/20-words-that-once-meant-something-very-different/

PS. They also make that temporal error, saying that "nice" once meant "silly". It was never the case.  ;)

647

....
I couldn't care less, or is it I could care less?  ;) (for those who care more about which way someone says it) Merriam-Webster treats the phrases couldn't care less and could care less as synonymous Like when I make toast that has sugar and synonymous sprinkled on it.

flammable vs inflammable
regardless vs Irregardless

As aggravating as it can be, the dictionary doesn't act as  authority to define words, and correct spellings, it only reflects the usage and accepted spellings that are common.

Since some people are extremely limited (I'm trying to be nice?) so definitions change and words acquire lateral, limited or new meanings. Take for example the word NICE?

"From the Anglo-Norman language to classical Latin to English, the word nice used to refer to someone ignorant from the Latin word nescius. Starting from the 1300s up to the 1600s the meaning was the same ignorant, foolish or silly. But during the same period, nice took on different meanings, from being dissolute, wanton, cowardly, effeminate, lazy, intricate, sluggish, refined to elegant.

In the 16th century the meanings changed to sharp, attentive, meticulous. When the 18th century arrived, the meanings lost much of its prestige; it gained the meaning we use today, such as pleasant or agreeable."

Which nice and I trying to be?

Don't be "silly", Pete.  ;)

"Silly" meant "holly" or "blessed", in old germanic.

Then silly became synonym with happy (meaning preserved by its equivalent in today's German and Dutch)
Then silly became a synonym for innocent or harmless.
Then silly became an adjective for something or someone worthy of sympathy.
But something we feel sympathy for is something thats weak.
From weak it became naive.

Then finally, from naive it went on to become ignorant and lacking sense.

So "silly" had a different meaning, when "nice" had a different meaning.  ;)

The woke mob, they see racism everywhere.

That's because your previous "moderated" remark was textbook racism and the admins saw it exactly like it was.

Too bad you don't realize it.

So, what are you doing in a forum moderated by "woke" admins, when there are plenty of white supremacist boards out there?

Too tired to write an essay tonight but here's another story on how amazing the economy is in Ontario Canada and the last paragraph talks about nearing full employment and worker shortages.

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/canada-caps-record-jobs-year-as-monthly-gain-doubles-estimates-1.1704364

The bulk of this years gains will be driven by newcomers to the country, rather than the pandemic unemployed returning to the workforce. Prime Minister Justin Trudeaus government plans to increase immigration levels this year to new highs, while foreign students have begun to return after border restrictions were lifted last year. Employment of native-born Canadians has been flat for almost a decade.

If the recovery doesnt stall, workers shortages are likely to become the big labor market issue for 2022.

Were not going to be able to add 100,000 jobs month in and month out, RBCs Nye said. The jobless rate falling below 6 per cent is an indication that were probably nearing full employment.

You are only confirming what I said, Canada is not in recession, unemployment si low and a lot of jobs are available.
Not having the skills or training to benefit from one of those many available jobs is your personal challenge.
Sorry for your troubles, but blaming others (e.g. immigrants) is not helping.

Re-read the story from BNN, they aren't hiring native Canadians. Better still come visit and maybe apply for some jobs, I don't  know if you're black, Asian or white but it's all India here from fast food to Walmart to whatever and they will hand your application right back to you if you apply in person and tell you they only hire their own nationality.

I'm assuming A) You are still employed and B) you aren't in southern Ontario.

You said that you don't blame immigrants for your lack of success, but you are shamelessly blaming indian immigrants.

Your family is also a family of immigrants, no different than the immigrants you blame for your incapacity to adapt to the labor market competition ::)
