Software - General / PTLens plug-in for Lightroom
« on: November 11, 2009, 13:48 »
When I switched to full sensor camera I started experiencing problems with chromatic aberrations more often than before. I only use Lightroom 2.5 for my post processing so I looked at its lens correction module and it seems like it will be very hard to automate it in y workflow. I started looking for some solutions. Of course if you have full version of PhotoShop you can create action and then use it in LR but I would prefer something cheaper than this. I found great tool called PTLens. Unfortunately there is no plug-in for LR so I started looking for it and found none. I downloaded Adobe Lightroom SDK and decided that learning Lua programming language is probably not so hard. It took two evenings to right something that works. I got post processing filter that calls PTlens after exporting each photo. It's good enough for me but I wonted make it more like Photomatix plug-n so you can select image and edit it interactively in PTLens.

If interested you can watch progress on Google Code: ptlens-lightroom-plugin. When it's ready I will publish it to Adobe Exchange.

How did he have a hidden camera recording at that exact time?  I would guess because he went in there specifically to be confronted by police rather than to take photos.

That's exactly what I thought. Maybe he was warned in the past so he returned with a trap for this police officer. I am not saying police was right but it seems like he was provoking them. These so called photographer's right activist do this mostly to get more views/diggs/exposure so they can feel great about themselves.

Veer / Re: Improvements to Veer Marketplace
« on: November 09, 2009, 18:21 »
Couple days ago I got finally tired of dashboard file ordering and posted on forum that sorting needs to be done. I guess I was not the only one tired :-)

All other improvements are less exciting for me.

"About Getty Images Artist Picks

Welcome to Getty Images Artist Picks
Artist Picks is a private Flickr group for all artists who have enrolled to participate in the Flickr collection on Getty Images. This is where we let you nominate your own images to be considered for invitation to the collection - up to 50 images per week. So choose your best photos or illustrations and let us take a look, or check out the discussions in this group where were talking about what our customers are asking for and go make some new pictures to nominate!

Please limit the discussion topics to those specifically related to the Artist Picks program. For all other discussions about the Flickr Collection please continue to use the Getty Images Contributors group. www.flickr.com/groups/gettyimagescontributors/.

How does Artist Picks work?
It's simple, all you need to do is post your selection of pictures into this group and our Creative team will take a look and invite everything we think our customers could be interested in. Please be sure that all similar images (from the same shoot/situation/scenario, etc.) are submitted at the same time. This makes it easier for our Creative team to see them all at once and review them.

Given the volume of submissions, we will not be able to email you individually with the reasons for not inviting images. In many cases it will be technical or legal issues, but we are also going to be factoring in saleability and the amount of images of a given subject we already have available.

* Tip: Once you've joined the group, use this Organizr link for the easiest way to submit up to 50 images at once.

Legal and technical criteria
At least three megapixels in size for the originals.

Model or property releases available where needed. Check out the threads and FAQs on the Getty Images Contributors group for more information.

No currently active licenses to any other users or through any other agency or distributor (Can I sell my Creative Commons-licensed content?)

You are the creator and copyright holder of the image.

The photos must be set as public. Even though you are able to post "private" images to the pool, please make sure the photos you submit are set as "public", as only those can be selected by us.

We will decide the licensing model (RF or RM) for the images based on our knowledge of the market and how each image fits into that -- just like with our other selections.

We are still working through the sets you've emailed us as well, so please DON'T post any images to the pool that you've already submitted via the sets!"

It looks like you can submit 50 images per week:

General Macrostock / Re: The Flickr Floodgate to Getty Has Opened
« on: November 05, 2009, 22:38 »
Still it's not same as "real" Getty account. You cannot submit your images at will. You can only add to a group they are browsing for new images. If they like something they will add it it to their queue.

If you do not know what is this about it must be about money. Why 40 agencies on iSyndica do not mind that users data is collected?

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock starts database cleanup?!
« on: November 05, 2009, 13:43 »
Just got email that they removed picture of car wreck from Bodie ghost town. My number one seller is fragment of sport car. I wonder when they going to notice it :-)

I downloaded couple presets last night. Sometimes sample images are included so you can reproduce effect in your world. I shoot mostly raw so I do not see similar results on my photos. Most of this presets make images look extremely dark.

For me it has not happened yet. Maybe they start from older portfolios?

Is Pixmac considered to be in top 4 since they distribute images from FT and DT? I think BigStock will be storefront for SS collection

663
Overall 3rd best month ever so maybe bad days are over. I am glad that SS now only 50% of my total earnings. Top 5 would be the same if I would not have one large sale on CanStockPhoto. DT slowly growing to pass StockXpert. FT is steady but surprisingly followed very closly by IS which got BME. I do not know what can I do improve IS performance.

Code: [Select]
Oct Oct/Sep
SS 48.89% 107.69%
CanStockPhoto 12.92% 926.23%
DT 9.94% 204.13%
StockXpert 9.06% 142.45%
123RF 6.11% 66.02%
FT 4.98% 92.83%
IS 4.27% 185.12%
Veer 1.55%
BS 0.91% 400.00%
CS 0.91% 800.00%
YM 0.46%

General Stock Discussion / Are U Mac or PC?
« on: October 30, 2009, 17:09 »
I have been thinking for a while about my next laptop. Is there any advantage of having Mac instead of PC?

Crestock.com / Re: For those impatient with Crestock

I would gladly forget about them but sometimes, not very often, they send me an email about some stupid Chinese propaganda or image sold.

Gee, are Nobel prizes in literature assigned already, if not how can we submit this one?

123RF / Re: Donate Free Images? Is it good ?
« on: October 28, 2009, 22:39 »
Can we once and for all say that there is no proof for agencies claims that it is beneficial for contributors. Stick it somewhere on the top of this forum so there will be no questions asked again? Maybe there are lawyers here who come up with class action suit against agencies that are laying to contributors about it?

Why minimum of 3 years? If images have not been sold for year would you think there is a chance somebody will find them under a pile of new ones?

Off Topic / Google and the Deadly Power of Data
« on: October 28, 2009, 14:14 »
Interesting article about next Google's venture: http://gizmodo.com/5391966/google-and-the-deadly-power-of-data

Also mentioned Getty and Corbis as possible next targets.

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS and BS...hmmmm
« on: October 23, 2009, 14:20 »
No! You should not upload that files again... It is completely different editor who rejected your images. BigStock has very good sense for what sells there and that is completely different stuff than on Shutterstock!
Just take a deep breath and continue uploading other stuff!
Good Luck!

If BigStock got this sixth sense why SS outsells them like 100x for me?

Newbie Discussion / Re: How do you upload to multiple sites?
« on: October 23, 2009, 13:51 »
I use sitecopy and task scheduler to multiple sites when I sleep :-)

672
I think some subjects are over and some are under represented. If you keep doing the same you have to hit ceiling at certain point. Obviously people are encouraged to shoot what sells but eventually everybody does the same so sales are going down.

General Stock Discussion / Re: how many keywords?
« on: October 22, 2009, 11:25 »
I am using keywording page from Yuri so I think I am close to current trends for a subject :-) I am selecting images that are visually similar to mine and then uncheck keywords that are irrelevant from suggested top 50. I tend to have around 30

Lighting / Coco Ring Flash vs RayFlash
« on: October 21, 2009, 22:12 »
It is obviously knock-off of original RayFlash. I do not know quality of it but it costs $60 instead of $200 and looks almost identical.

Coco Ring Flash

RayFlash

Rayflash, on the other hand, seems to be infringing on Kodak's patent (#20060093344).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Veer matched YAY today
« on: October 21, 2009, 22:01 »
I bet you got more royalties from the Veer sales than the yay sales though.  I think its still too early to go Veer bashing.

Wrong, I got 3x more from YAY. If only they got volume...
