Best month ever for me. They must have been playing with the search engine.
I'm curious - pretty much over the last year whenever someone has talked about a downward trend in stock - you have always piped up "OH BEST MONTH EVER FOR ME!"... is your small portfolio of video stock really always increasing like that? if so, I'm rather impressed it's doing that well, and that consistently...
Spacestockfootage has amazing animations - this is the reason his portfolio does so well
Thanks!

Always had massive swings at Shutterstock. On the whole (across all agencies), my earnings have been increasing since I started, many moons ago (uploaded my first clip in 2009 I think - only started putting real effort into it in 2014), but they have started to plateau a bit in 2019. At this rate I'll make about the same as I did in 2018. I guess it's to be expected as I haven't been putting as much effort in as I should if I want to see sales continue to increase. I guess I'd better get some work done! This month is about 10% higher than my second best month back in January...

Finally, everyone sees that the other shot is Las Vegas and the old MGM is front and center, so not a skyline.
The big blue building is 'The Drew' in Las Vegas. You've got the Hilton Grand Vacations to the right of it, and if they're 4K shots then you can probably make out the Trump logo on the gold monstrosity at the back right! I know my Vegas!

From my understanding... you usually don't need a release for the buildings, as it's part of a skyline and none of them are the main focus of the clip. But you still need a release for any logos, which it looks like you have a few of. So you need to remove the logos or shoot again without the logos in.

How did you do?
Nothing spectacular, but iStock has turned into a solid #2.
Better than a runny one I guess.

If you change the 'level' of H.264 then they'll go higher.

I use 50Mbps VBR for HD. I think the sliders go up to 250 if it's 4K content. I go with 100 though.

You'd be better asking Dreamstime

I've never quite known the difference between the subs, credits and Getty Images sales when it comes to earnings for footage... but up until a few months ago I was getting mainly a split between subs and credits with the occasional Getty sale. Since February I've had 46 Getty sales on just the one clip... plus my usual amount for credits and subs. Not sure if it's been featured or something, as I couldn't find it on Getty. It's a pretty generic clip... not usually one of my best sellers. Can't complain though!

Isn't it just evidence that you had no Shutterstock sales for ten days?

Oh I think everyone understands why someone be upset if there was a cap in place... that's not the issue. I think everyone just doesn't understand why so many people think there's a cap in place without any evidence to support the theory. And having similar sales on a monthly basis doesn't really constitute evidence. These caps and whatever other theorys are doing the rounds at the time... they always just feel a little bit like:
"ok, my sales aren't what they used to be and/or aren't what I feel they should be. Who is to blame for this? I have no idea... so I should invent some kind of theory that would explain it, even if there's no evidence to support that theory. Great, now I have something/someone to blame and can sleep better and night."

Mines even more uppy-downy! If there is a cap then it fluctuates wildly!
Images yes ~ Not for video
Yeah I mean it just wouldn't make sense for there to be a cap on video earnings. But images... it's perfectly clear why they cap them and not video.

I'm sure if somebody is looking to represent people born with no eyes, in their marketing... then you'll be their first port of call! They do look really good though!

I've noticed an increase in sales over the past few months as well. So it's probably just a change to the search engine... I'm sure they'll change it again before long and some people will notice more sales and some people will notice less. I don't think it's the start of a sinking ship or anything.

That's a slightly strangely worded question... so you might need to rephrase it! Are you asking whether they take a cut of the sale price of illustrations and vectors? If so, then yes they do! They do on photos and videos as well.

Panasonic GH5, Sony A7III, BMPCC4K if you have the budget. If not, maybe a Sony AX100 or a Panasonic G7. Just some suggestions, I'm sure there's some better options, but I know they shoot good footage.

Apart from a few spelling and grammatical errors, the site looks really nice and it's slightly interesting to check the stats, but am I right in thinking that all this does is rank people by the number of files they have? If so, I'm not exactly sure how that will help me "Identify and Learn from the best to improve your profits" or "Using Data to Make Better Decision". Is there more on the way that I'm missing?

Everything that gets communicated by the stock agencies is marketed as exciting and new, but it's not like they promised increased sales... they just promised a 60% cut rather than a 40% cut, which is what they're delivering. Exclusive program was a scam/red-herring to mask the 10% (20%) commission cut.
Well the major takeaway/headline of the exclusive program was (and is), 'go exclusive and we'll increase your cut to 60%, don't and we'll drop it to 40%'. I mean that was in the main announcement email, as clear as day, so if the intention was to mask what was really going on... then they failed on a momentously miserable scale. Not sure where the scam lies in that?
It's blatantly obvious. Exclusivity, even if it does begin producing sales, will never compete with spreading clips across multiple agencies. At least that's what my stats tell me 100% with my own clips.
Well yeah... I know that and you know that, and most people know that. I'm sure Pond5 even know that, but they never said anything to dispute that. It would only be a scam if they'd said that going exclusive with them would earn you more money than distributing your content to as many different agencies as you like. And they didn't!

In most cases they reject anything that has audio. You can submit release forms or question the rejection if you want to, but it might still get rejected. Probably easier to just upload without.
