iStockPhoto.com / Re: Uploaded limits raised to 999
« on: April 22, 2013, 22:56 »
^ people like me probably, on 18/10 days. I was always running out and you could never tell when the next time was coming up without a lot of clicking, so I didn't get to use my upload time efficiently. then I stopped uploading and deactivated files so I was back to @150, and now I've started sprinkling a few over there. this new offer is good for ppl like me: still building up my port.

what I choose to do yet I don't know. there is no trust.

eureka! got one.

actually I found that they do have KW, there's an edit button that is located on the right hand side of the submit button. max of 10 keywords *sigh* so they'll all have to be manually adjusted.

General Stock Discussion / Re: High sales vs high commissions

Every time I give away sell an image for 25c, 33c, 8c ...or for whatever ridiculously low subscription price I feel slightly sick, as this happens frequently throughout the day I'm beginning to think that stock photography is making me ill  ;)
true, although I don't put my favourites across all sites. and I put some of my favourites on just one site, where I'm hoping for higher comms and infrequent sales.

If you are a power, we trust you and all your photos do not go to the evaluation process anymore but they are automatically accepted with 5 stars.
Take care with this. There was an iStock admin who was (presumably) on a non-inspection privilege - his photos were fine, but his keywording was spammy beyond belief for a long time.
what keywords? there aren't any being used, are there?  There are also plenty of files with not description.

I am not annoynmous on any agency forum. Only here, but thats gone as well.

Only reason I am not changing my name here is because I dont need people to google my name and find me here.

actually that is a good reason to have a different forum name.

683
so my question remains, how do you become a pro in the first place?
your terms state that every image must be rated by at least one pro, so you must have a few that have entered straight at that level?

personally I think it could take a long time to even get to 100, as we're relying on others to spend time reviewing our work.

684
well sure, but on the other hand, there is a lot of rubbish there.

landscapes shot at ISO 400 1/2000 f 4.5  i pretty much feel the need to reject that based on those numbers, esp the ones shot in Yosemite (ansel adams and all that)

it does give you a feel for the stuff inspectors have to wade through. if you were to compare the stuff to the best that iS or SS has to offer, you'd have to reject 90% of it so far. that feels kind of mean, but so far i've seen mostly p&s camera stuff.

Although Michael Jay is correct in what he says above, given a straight choice of 10 sales at $1 or one sale at $10 I'd choose the latter. Fewer instances of the image out there to be lifted, easier to track what's likely to be genuine sales.
ditto.

at first I though, more sales = more ppl who like my work, but it also means more "cheap" ppl who like my work, more and even more ppl who won't pay get to see my work. my brain works slower but....... what she said. :)

I'd only ventured over there a few times but never found it to be my cup of tea. (I can only handle one lot of edgy, opinionated, bossy creatives, and here they at least like microstock).

I do love this quote from Alamy Admins:

With this in mind, we've now made it compulsory to be a registered Alamy photographer before you can post. Although you'll be able to pick a forum alias the first time you log in, you'll need to log in using your existing Alamy website credentials and your profile on the new forum will contain a link to your image collection on Alamy. We believe this will promote a more honest and less hostile environment. Also, users are now able to give (or take away) reputation points on posts and users. Again, we hope this will promote a more positive and overall constructive place for discussion.

of course we all fear the backlash of speaking out (hello iS!), so having some anonymity can be helpful, but I do think this transparency is a good thing overall.  There are quite a few mouthy types here who like to whinge, yet I've no idea if it's justified as i can't see their ports.

perhaps a "show me yours, i'll show you mine" policy could be implemented? :)

Thanks for the encouragement Gillian. :)

James Allsworth,

yikes James! how Big Brother of you, 5 mins...............  :P
but otherwise, my pleasure. we should all be here to support and help and move onwards and upwards and all that. can't say i'll be over there much, as that RM crowd are a bit scary.

With regard to rating images I think you're also missing :

dust/sensor spots
CA/fringing
overfiltered/overprocessed

« on: April 21, 2013, 23:45 »
is that what "atomization" means in this context? I was confused by that, I haven't heard it used much.  ???

100,000 images per day to review!! wowser. maybe they need to implement a stricter similars policy.

I just did a random search on "coffee with biscuit" (yeah, it's afternoon teatime here, coffee is on my mind). That search yields a lot of similars and sadly, a boatload of keyword spamming.

Maybe a stricter similars policy would tighten up the submissions?

ok, i'm off to make a coffee! :)

692
isn't this site a bit niche? Yet all those categories suggest you aren't just after location images? I'm a bit confused.

The ratings are confusing me:
0-100 have no rating, then 101-999 are "newbies", followed by "pro" at 1000 images. Won't there be some temptation to upload as much as possible to reach those ratings? peer review probably won't pick up on similars.

How does one become a pro in the first place if you have to have 1000 images peer approved, by a Pro? seems like you'll have to start with some self-appointed pros.

693
congrats, that must feel good.

surely if such a thing can be done in LR it can be done in Bridge/ACR (are you using ACR?)

695
so, despite the complaining, no one can yet show that others are jumping the queue?

(according to the few examples quoted here)
I'd be one of those who don't pop in to say "all good", although it tends to get -ve votes when someone does.
Sure, review times are a touch longer than what they were, but DT and that other big one are also long.

Edit: see, someone gave me a -ve for this comment!!

No need to talk down on us non stocksy peeps. You got in, good luck, dont let it get to yur head.

By the way, I didn't say it wasnt a friendly place. But if it is such a friendly place, tell them to be nice and send me a rejection email. Ignoring people is not nice.

I'm merely responding in the way I would have, regardless of whether I'd been accepted or not. It's hardly going to go to my head, I have such a small port there (and everywhere else).

Cooperatives are typically based on the cooperative values of "self-help, self-responsibility, democracy and equality, equity and solidarity" and the seven cooperative principles:
Voluntary and open membership
Democratic member control
Economic participation by members
Autonomy and independence
Education, training and information
Cooperation among cooperatives
Concern for community

I don't get why you've crossed out those items
co-ops can choose members, I want to join a local organic food co-op - I have to apply and wait to be accepted.
there is plenty of education, training and info on the stocksy site.
no idea what the other one even means, all co-ops play nicely? ha!

you've missed one important one: a common understanding of the higher purpose of the co-op. which translates to a positive attitude, less whining and finger pointing, more helpfulness and a desire for everyone to succeed. the forums over there reflect that. it's a fun, friendly place to be.

699
ah, am I to assume they've "borrowed" it from somewhere and now need a printable version.
