From memory, when a photog asked for their photos to be removed and they weren't, they replaced the description with please buy this photo from fotolia or shutterstock.
If they are still up, it definately means they forgot to turn the lights out when they left the building!!

I think istock, with all its exclusive submitters and other pro's, look down on the common folk while shutterstock seems more inclusive as a lot of the people who post there are the common folk just trying to make a dime or two.

Paypal would be a step backward for most people. If these sites could just do direct deposit then that would be a huge step forward.
Setting up a direct deposit system with banks from ever country that they have photags at would be a nightmare. Paypal is the 21st century as as long as you have a verified account, I dont see any problems with it.

Thats good for LO - a prize they dont have to pay out on.
Is anyone actually close to a payout at LO. When . is there marketing gong to start (as promised) as the incentive to upload is getting smaller and smaller. At the moment all it is good for is earning credits that I will never use.
At least Canstock makes absolutely no promises about its crap level of sales.
[end of vent]

I had a similar experience at Dreamtime (accepted everywhere else).
I think that is one of the more annoying rejections as if they say it is technically wrong, i can improve but for the small sites to say they have enough just annoys me.

(and pray for that the staff will feel better soon).
I am too busy praying for more sales at LO. Still a tad to slow though apparently they still haven't started their marketing.

I had a high rejection ratio in teh last batch at DT. Are they getting picky now? Accepted at most other sites so maybe they aren't playing the numbers game.
SS is catching istock slowly and FT continues to power away (depending on if you beleive their numbers - see other thread).

natural ebb and flow ... blah blah blah ....
I am not seeing anything spectacular either. last month was good for me and i think I am tracking in between last month and the month before.
We have had 2 weekends in 10 days and there was a public holiday in the US I think so hopefully it is still to early to judge.

After months of lurking, registered to say Hi ...............
As you are new, you have to go through initiation. Hmmmm. what can we make you do??? A few questions maybe?: Are you new to microstock or have you been doing it a while? Favourite site? What camera? Favourite subject (ie what do you like to take pictures of?)

Shutterstock and Fotolia are the only ones really worth tryng to "sell" to new people. The others, the benefit is so short lived it is not worth it.

they are very slow to review at the moment - been waiting over a week.

From Alamy, you get 65% of the sale price for normal sales. For "distribution sales," where a third party sells the images, you get 45%.
I earn 40% or something on alamy. The low % on Istock is what people are irritated with. Or they pay 55% if you are not in one of their approved countries and then they charge additional fees to make a payout (no fee free paypal).

Professor - I agree with you. I was only think from a sales perspective.

Makes you wonder. Also would answer why they could grow so quickly compared to the other sites (since everyone submits the same photos to all sites).
Does it matter. To Photags no!!! To designers yes!!! as they dont get the selection advertised (false advertising).

Not sure how you refered them but any link to your photo or portfolio is a referral link.
You get 1.5% of any sale or purchase so their total referal payout is 3%.
If you go to referals on the left hand menu, it will list if you have referred a photog.
THat has to be the easiest 3c you ever earned - you didn't even do anything. If only it was more!

I dream of retiring to a pacific island where, provided I owned my home outright, could probably surivive on less than $100pw. However, for my current lifestyle, I would need many many times more and it is no way a substitue for a real job. Dreams are free though.
I should add that I am currently living in the UK, but will at some stage return to New Zealand where I am from. Average wage in NZ is about US$380 per week though I wouldn't like to live on just that (although no one said the misses would stop her job so maybe that would be enough).

Plus a color code for the practical visual aspect: blank for waiting, yellow for approved, grey for refused, and green for deleted by myself. I also use bars to differentiate the dates submitted.
I do a similar thing though only record whether accepted or rejected (no dates or anything). However, I use green for accepted and red for rejected and orange for can be resubmited. Traffic lights are instantly recongnisable.

It is just a shame you had to flush $60 down the drain to earn that.
Like the driving at night one as well.

Do you upsize before or after doing minor tweaking (levels, saturation etc). I would have though before as tweaking can introduce artifacts which you wouldnt want to be interperlated.

They are better than a kick in the head!!
Problem: increasing competetion (but there are already millions of images to no major) Pro: YOu refer a good photag and you will have income for life (at SS anyway).
