I will research smugmug, cafepress and zazzle and maybe try one. Sounds like some of you are getting some sales.

The same for 'globe'and 'globes'. I have reported this already to support. Let's hope it will be fixed soon.

I don't remember where I read it, but somewhere I got the impression that it was always good to use plural terms, as the search would then pick up the singular also, but not the other way around. Not saying it should be that way, but...

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace watermark.
« on: August 01, 2009, 10:28 »
Doesn't seem too visible, but would still require a lot of cloning if someone wanted to use. I see your point though. Too bad there wasn't some sort of auto detection, whereby dark photos used white watermark and light photos like this one used black type.

At least there's type all through the photo. That's more than some sites do.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sad day for photographers

I am a full time pro and I really agree with markstout in his first post. I have resolved the same problem by NOT shooting people and NOT going to locations. If I did, it would be for RM images. I only tinker with stuff in my studio and/or around the house, or submit "holiday snaps".

I also see Marks point, and somewhat agree. But I think the above is the perfect solution. If I'm gonna be spending hundreds of dollars for a shoot, it's not going to be submitted to Microstock. Only Sean Locke and others of his caliber can afford to do that. ;)

Each person has to choose what his or her bottom line is. If the prices paid for contributors' photos goes lower, I will reach my bottom line and stop contributing. Fortunately, the commissions have been going up, even if only by pennies.

Photo Critique / Re: rejected photo
« on: August 01, 2009, 10:00 »
You didn't mention which micro you submitted to. Each one has different "rules" and it takes a while to know what each one will accept.

istockphoto does not like highly saturated photos. They want the photo to be as close to straight from the camera as possible...no filters, nothing. Only fixing of noise and specks are tolerated. Unless you are a BIG moneymaker for them, then you can get as artistic as you like.

Dreamstime used to accept highly saturated photos, not sure if they do anymore though. I learned the trick of using lab colors to bump up saturation, but don't do it for micro anymore.

You will have to surf around and do some research and see what's currently being accepted on the sites.

By the way, I think your photo would be a good one, if it didn't have the technical issues. If you can go back to the original and do a little less monkeying around, it might be worth it.

I shoot in RAW format, change to 8 bit jpgs. Camera raw gives you a lot more control, but again, you have to be careful about changing too many things. The purists say that you should NOT do any photoshopping, you should learn to take a good shot right in your camera. I somewhat agree. :)

simple abuse of business ethics

As the economy goes further down the toilet, more and more of this is happening, and not just with microstock sites. Employers are free to rip off their employees however they want, and a lot of employees are shaking in their shoes over losing their jobs and they are willing to go along with whatever is dealt to them. And the ones that don't put up with it, well, when they look around behind them, nobody is there.

If there is going to be any change in microstock, many, many people are going to have to be willing to go without supper for awhile. And I just don't think that will happen. Let me know if it does, I'm there.

It all boils down to the whole corporate America's mantra nowadays...the guys at the top travel in style, the guys doing the work can't even afford a car.

Sorry for the rant...this hit a personal note.

edit: Fotolia...I bailed a long time ago. Sounds like a made a wise decision for once. Tom...my thoughts are with you. Glad you caught it early. Hang in there.

Yes, that is good, but it still takes far too many clicks if you have a sequence of different pictures to go through because the keyword editing area stays at the top, and not next to the pic that ou are editing, so there's lots of scrolling up and down that I could do without.

I agree.

Also, after submitting a file, for me, the Thanks window is unnecessary. I certainly appreciate the politeness, but I want to get in and get out. Whatever saves me time so I can shoot more and upload more, I'm all for.

I will likely get some deactivations as well. The rule used to be as long as the persons face wasnt showing, you didn't need a model release. I think I have some of those that will be going bye bye.

The whole thing is getting ridiculous, IMHO. Inside the casinos, makes perfect sense. Outside, pictures of the strip, signs, etc? Give me a break. Pretty soon, every object on this freakin earth will be copyrighted and not available for shooting.

I see one issue that has been fixed. When adding keywords, when you would click more, choose from the more list, it would collapse back to less automatically. It now stays open to more unless you choose less. I love it! Thank you for fixing that!

Veer / Does Veer accept editorial photos?

Will Veer Marketplace accept editorial photos? I looked around for the answer on all the technical wikis but did not find a definitive answer. Maybe some of you who already contribute know the answer? Thanks.

So do we have to set up our own portfolio of our images or will that be done automatically and linked to our member page? In other words, when someone searches for an image, they click on mine, they see my name and they click on it, will it go to my portfolio or to my member page where they then can see my whole portfolio?

@whatalife...sorry to hear about your rejections.

Something is going on...I hope once the site is up and running and everything has settled in, we can give all those rejections another shot. Do they have a second chance department?

Doesn't seem like a site that doesn't want you, Cathleen.

I have a feeling that just shuffles through all the portfolios.

Well, I have been anxiously awaiting Veer going live...it looked like it was going to be a good place to be selling photos, for several reasons.

I finally got my first 10 approved and have been submitting more.

I am so disappointed now (again). I have as many rejected as approved. As I scanned through the rejection reasons, composition was one reason. Two photos were rejected because "The subject matter is outside of Veer Marketplace's current needs" and yet one of them I already submitted and it was approved. This second one is the same subject, just a whole different view of the object. The second one is the same subject as the first one submitted and approved, the first was in vertical format and the second in horizontal format. Same rejection reason "The subject matter is outside of Veer Marketplace's current needs".

I give up for now. I just don't think I'm good enough.  :-[

I am having the same issue.  When I go to the dashboard the images that showed up in the approved image tab are no longer there.  In fact the dashboard shows 0 for all of the tabs.

It looks like different things are happening to different people. All my photos are still in my dashboard, as they were.

I'm at least happy they are making progress and we will be selling soon.

Thanks all for the feedback.

If so, what site? I've been pondering this. Remember seeing posts now and again about it, just curious if it is worth the time and/or $$ to set up a store. Is there a good market for prints?

Is it live only for old SV contributors or for all!?

For all. I'm not an SVer.

I just did a search for a couple of mine that are approved and there they are! I am jazzed. If I click on the image, it goes to a page where it shows different sizes for different credit amounts. I think you guys are right...they are still working on it. Patience!

I was just able to create a portfolio and add a photo and description.
http://ideas.veer.com/portfolio/2336

But I don't get it. It's asking me to add and edit pieces, saying that a piece = one page for one image and/or text. Certainly a portfolio of my work that buyers can browse and buy from will be set up automatically?

Yes, I agree, I think there's more coming.

edit: I just went back and looked around. Portfolios, like the one i created, are for displaying your work. I believe it is NOT the portfolio of my approved images.

7172
If 100% of my photos were rejected on all the sites I contribute to, I would be looking at my camera carefully to see what was wrong with it.

If 100% of my photos were rejected on one site, but accepted on other sites, I would be thinking that somebody was having a bad day. I would read what the reviewer thought the issues were, check the photos out, then agree or dismiss. Then I would keep shooting.

I think we have to image how reviewer work looks like:

Oh my gosh, that is too funny!

I kinda thought that, you know, somethin' just don't look right with this one. Can't quite put my finger on it right (gulp) now but if it pops into my remembrance (pour) I'll maybe look at the image again (gulp) when I manage to roll out of bed tomorrow and be able to read my rejection quota.

I like it! I totally understand the reason here!

I'm surprised, since you didn't open the package, you most certainly should be able to return it. Hope you get it straightened out.
