Camels and horses still prevail in Mongolia I'm afraid - there are a few bikes though! This may be a tangent but.. this may help you to confirm/reject any stereotypes about Mongolia: http://ontrains.blogspot.com/2008_06_03_archive.htmlThe photos were taken before I got into stock so they are snapshots. Nothing worthy of being sold. A truly amazing country.

review times seem shorter, 2-5 days, but i also received my first lcv rejection:
"With the rapid growth of the iStock collection, we give valuable consideration to each file but unfortunately cannot accept all submissions. Please don't take it personally. This isn't necessarily a reflection of your photography or skill, rather a decision by iStock to determine commercial applications for your images as royalty-free stock."
supposedly is never reject on any ground other than technical, but this new direction may help it pare down some of its bulk.
This is new and its similar to ambiguous rejections I get from Fotolia. I hope they will continue to give the best feedback of all the sites as they have done so for a while.

Yuri's tool works for me today. I noticed it wasn't working a couple of weeks ago - images were replaced by white boxes with the x.

Has anyone else noticed that if you want to upload more than 5 files at a time they charge you 10 pounds a year membership?
Yup - thats the PN Pro option... except its not really an option. It was my first experience with stock photography so when they asked I paid but having used other free sites since then I personally dont think its worth the spend. Thats my 2p.

Back in business, place your bets please!
All my images are still there - but its where I started out and they would accept literally anything - so understandably my worst work. But at least they managed to keep all their data.
! You beat me to it on here! Mind you, I did upload to them before coming here Everything seems to be working fine and my images and commission are still there. Good luck with your sales. Regards, David.
Was the uploading process any quicker? They claim that it has been improved.

Thanks David, same to you. After such a long time offline I was expecting a complete overhaul of the website. At first glance it appears to be exactly the same as when it went down a few months back. Has anyone noticed any changes?

I was cruising the web and found this website that has some very good information to keep in mind and the do's and don't of stock photography. Good questions you need to ask yourself and keep in mind before you take those shots. There are other links on there to good information. So if you are a newbie it would be worth your while to take a look at this site. Even as a experienced photography it is good to read to get yourself back on track.

Just returned from Amsterdam from shooting stock images using my Canon 5dII, I submitted 40 plus great images and only (2) were accepted while the others were rejected with the reason "the quality of the images is not what we desire". I'm getting real frustrated now with the changing price structure and all the tons of rejections at fotolia. Why even bother to upload and waste your time when you know what the outcome will be?
Do anyone else have this experience?---and please give feedback.
Yes. Starting out with them I had about 70 photos refused, but they were taken on a G9 (mostly artifcating). I've moved to a full size Canon SLR (I cant remember the model as its my g/fs but I think its 8mp) and almost all of my uploads are now being accepted. Are they saying that the quality is too much? Am I right in saying that the 5dII is 21 Mpix? Perhaps they want you to reduce the image size.

i just updated my will, to include stock images. no, i don't plan to leave this earth so soon, at least not until i kiss all your asses in micro stock, lol. just kidding, but something made me think of this after i read of Mitz passing a while back. i never thought stock images were anything worth worrying about, as this is only like not even 5% or 0.5 % of my photography income. but let's say in 20 years time, if micro stock would ever survive, lol.. it might be sizeable. and to most of you who have been in micro since its inception, it no doubt is already.
so, what i did is make my models the beneficiary of my stock images, which is naturally whom should be getting them, after my demise. and for the rest, well, i really don't know. who gets my isolated products and chicken fried rice and poutine, lol.
no, seriously, since my models are the ones who worked as hard and diligently as i did in stock photography, i decided they should be the ones to inherit my wealth (rofl) from stock photos.
what about you?
I love poutine. If I manage to get a portfolio which will accumulate nicely over time then I would certainly consider handing it over to someone. Does it ever go from being a hobby to a living? I guess this is when its worth something once you die. You cant really pass down a hobby. But hard cash usually works well.

Another update to the site notice - still clinging on!
I got a bag of horse manure for Christmas once. It took me years of searching everywhere, to figure out there was no hidden pony to go with it.
At least three years ago I started buying lottery tickets for my retirement. Now there's some hope, and I may have a better chance of getting something back, than waiting for PN to come back to life. Calling Dr. Frankenstein, calling Dr. Frankenstein...
Lets say they do awake and make a miraculous website recovery. Where are the customers? You think they are just sitting, hoping and waiting for months? No they've moved on for their needs. Contributors? Oh yeah, we're full of confidence after getting the promises and more promises, which haven't been true yet? Even if somehow PN does come back, it's too late now.
Why would someone give you a pony AND manure? The pony is the manure-provider. Were you going to feed a pony manure? Poor PN.

...istock seem to reject a lot of bluesky/black...
I don't understand. What do you mean by bluesky/black?
I mean images with large areas of blue sky or regions of black. I shoot raw and the still seem to get artifacts.

Haha I will add that to my note book for the (near?) future. I'm currently shooting with the Canon G9. istock seem to reject a lot of bluesky/black so I've recently moved to downsizing and resubmitting. I was adjusting the image size to 80/90% before but your actions are very welcome.

Thanks. I'm sure it will come in useful in future for hiding artifacts.

The site has been updated (21st Deceomber) with a similar notice to before. They intend to get back up and running but who knows when.
Meantime I've managed to make my first sale on iStockPhoto and I'm starting to realise that there is very little point in banking on sales from PN.

On a tangent (I didn't want to start a new thread for this), does the witness on a Model Release need to be a third person, not the Model or Photographer? Its a simple question, but I would like to clarify.
Yes. And if it's a release for a minor, it needs to be a fourth person (not the model, the signing parent or guardian or the photographer).
Thankyou.

Very true David. I logged in very early this morning and found a familiar website with login screen. This morning its back to the notice we have had for the last couple of months which suggests that they make have been testing IT changes they have made, late at night. But I suppose most testing would be done on a non-live server. Perhaps PN's departure is a good thing (for me) as it always seemed too easy to get images accepted, and I never had 1 sale after a few months contributing. I'm learning the hard way now by uploading to iStockPhoto.
