Shutterstock.com / Re: When does Shutterstock pay out?
« on: June 14, 2016, 06:47 »
My experience is that SS is very consistent with payouts. No need to open topics when they haven't paid out before the 15th. I understand people are used to being paid out before the 15th but really, SS doesn't need to pay before the 15th

Same here. I've been shortlisted at least 10 times and never chosen. And it was very hard to tell if the brief was even awarded. Just says "closed". I've given up on them.
I have followed and about 87% was closed, so only 13% was awarded. My test time is coming to end and result, I am pretty sure it's waste of time. Maybe there is few who make some income. But is it to good place to make money, I do not think so. I think it's much better themselves, collect membership subscriptions and so on. It's shame, I like an idea of prices and how they market images.
Nowadays there are many sites doing those things, calling it briefs, challenges, requests etc. All waste of time

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Video on istock

I'm not on iStock, but if iStock format is the same as Getty's, you need to submit 4k in ProRes 422HQ.
Be prepared to earn pennies for your vids.

Affinity will do just fine.
And like increasingdifficulty posted, you should stack images when you have dof issues.

Only for cityscapes when something changes, new buildings etc.

If you just got accepted as a Moment contributor at Getty, I wouldn't bother. Most of your images will go to the Moment Open collection which is low in the search rankings. Some will go to Moment RF or RM which are higher in the search rankings. And then some images will go to the Prestige collection after a couple of months, but even then you can get sales of 40 cents.
It used to be easier to get into the RF and RM collections, but now it's different, how they choose the images for the collections puzzles me. From the same series I had my best going to the Open collection while some of the not so good ones going to the RM collection. Also from the same series they sometimes select only 1 or 2 and reject the rest as similar even if it's not similar. I hardly upload there nowadays.

IMHO agencies like Westend and the likes are more worth it. From photographers I heard that these agencies are getting a lot of applications at the moment, if you apply it will take some time before you get a reply, sometimes you don't get a reply at all.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Snapwire

Sean, as I know you have moved some exclusive (premium) images there, right? I just was approved and I wonder about the exclusivity. Is there option to opt out of the exclusive move? I woudn't like to delete my images from other sites, I don't want to be exclusive at all... If they don't let me opt out then I will know to not upload my work here.
Thanks for any info :)

i know this is an old thread but i wanted to ask the same thing and also if it worth uploading and not participate at requests just have the ohotos online at some nice prices ?
If you have images marked as Premium, they have to be exclusive. You can't opt out.
Haven't participated in requests, it seems the same people get nominated every time

I've been avoiding Dissolve like the plague, just like Canva, Envato, Depositphotos, iStock and soon Pond5.

It's not the camera, I hardly get any rejections on SS uploading images from my phone. Your camera is far superior to my phone, you have to know the limitations of any camera you are using.
