Newbie Discussion / Re: Hello All - New to MicroStock

Flamingo's used to live in Australia, but now are extinct there." Phoeniconotius eyrensis, from the late Oligocene of South Australia, was one of the most massively built flamingos known. At the time Lake Eyre was a vast inland lake, home to many other water birds as well as crocodiles, lungfish and numerous marsupials. The youngest Australian fossil flamingo is Pleistocene in age. Flamingos most likely became extinct in Australia as increasing aridity caused permanent inland waterways to disappear." (Australian Museum). However  there are flamingos in Zoos when they escape they gorge themselves at barbies eating prawns and drinking tinnys this turns them bright orange.  :)

you forgot to mention that surely they had poison barbs in their feathers? :)

back OT, I'm curious that the famous beach huts are allowed as stock, without a property release. I shot them a few years back, but on film... and frankly, getting a beautiful sunny afternoon with achingly beautiful blue (Qld-esque) skies is near impossible in Victoria.    :P

Thank you all for your comments!

We are an Italian startup so... yes, we're translating into english. Anyway, the "gratification" to the photographers is given by our high revenue (from 50% to 85%). Does it make sense?

what you may not understand is that "gratification" tends to go well with the words "self" or "sexual", as well as "instant" or "delayed". It's too, um, ... emotional.

Wow Flamingos are very orange in Oz! Good stuff love the piglet.  :)
no, they're not Australian (else they'd be poisonous too:P )
do we even have them??

If a parent even hesitates I wouldn't push the issue. If they are using facebook and putting their kids' pics on it, then uh! can you even point out how ludicrous they are being? I've never found a polite way to point that out, so i just move on.

I actually "pay" my kids, usually in the form of ice cream or slushies. :) They are pretty ok with their "exploitation". They also just got mini iPads so i'm sure I'll do a series of "kids with technology" which they'll be more than happy to comply with.

755
so, mostly travel photos, landscapes, etc?

756
OMG, what amazing shots, bless you for all that trouble to take such beautiful shots and share them here. (it exhausts me just thinking about the prep work, set up and actual shoot.)

you think? an image approved yesterday has sold twice already.

people who don't have kids have plenty of free time... they just don't know it. :P

So true.

If I had used my time wisely before I had kids, Yuri Arcurs would be working for me.
+1
what were we thinking, using those evening hours and week ends for ourselves??!

I thought DNG was Adobe's evil plan to try to convert us all?

I've just spent 40 mins on this site trying to sort out files I found in the mysterious "hidden" tab.

I'd have a giant rant but I've already wasted too much of life on PD today.

hilarious, I've been to the Alamy site one time and came across Xanox and his poisonous words (mostly bagging out micro and MSG in general) and now, this person is HERE. I think your reputation precedes you i'm afraid, if even I know about you.

i'm done with their forum, i'm a "born again stocker".
lol, good for you.

by the way, just banned from their forum again for complaining about the forum being now invisible from home page !

good, deleted the alamy forum from my bookmarks.
good riddance guys, and dont worry the few forumers left over there will soon move here with some time.

Hi Xanox - You were banned because this was yet another registration of yours on our forum, in a string of anonymous names and multiple registrations, where you have previously been banned for continuously breaking the forum rules. You keep changing your name, but the ban will remain I'm afraid.

The forum is still linked to the homepage via the "for sellers" link at the top of the page and we welcome contributors to use it. We are also working on a new and improved version which we are very excited about to launch soon.

yes, things aren't perfect there, but let's put a polite face on for the guests, lest they think MSG is full of critical, ungrateful whingers.

wonder if that's written by someone rejected by SS.

Why is Alamy "good"?
doesn't Getty own Jupiter now?

I had to chuckle at Lonely Planet! They pay??

but we should say: thanks for the research, even if it's not quite up to date.

767
that's actually a good point, as Pond5 shouldn't probably be in the top 6 for us photographers?

but ah, a bit of work and how to lay it out nicely?

Pond5 / Re: Photo Pricing for Pond5

yes, it's really confusing to use, and as I don't go there more than once a fortnight I feel like I have to relearn how to use it every time I return.

ok, so I went back in and spent 5 mins looking around and I found the templates tab.
It's under "uploads"
there's a line of soft grey text - this is also where you find the Releases bit.
I felt like I was going around in circles to find it.

Your list of known restrictions would be best put into country categories.

I thought about it briefly once....then I thought about how mortified my daughter would be if her photo showed up in a tampon ad....and I was paid 38 cents to deal with the drama that would ensue.  :o  No thanks.

good point as I head into teenage years with my free models :) ... but surely a tampon ad would be deemed sensitive use?
