..and its not even Sunday this time!

802
Looks like SS has broken yet again.  Contributor side anyway.
Dashboard broken, earnings broken, app broken.

803
If you go back through the pages (yes, i WAS that bored).

He's got the same shots with the same view dated 2017 and 2018 (yet the same people in same clothing...)

I dont think SS care any more.  I've had 1 similar rejection lately and thats because i accidentally uploaded the same file twice due to FTP delays.

The problem i see with that is if someone else uploads a handful of GOOD "Sicily marina" or whatever photos they'll never get found as the 30 pages of near identical images from this will prevent it.

804
Some amazing Spamfolios here:-

https://www.shutterstock.com/g/agiampiccolo?page=1&sort=newest&search_source=base_gallery&language=en

Appears to be 40,000 images of the same thing with only slight changes and mono/colour for each one.

I guess SS dont do rejections for similar any more!

What it actually means is

(i) companies will buy this INSTEAD of a normal price one (so less money) and
(ii) due to their buggy code ANYONE can download the full video by just getting the link from the source it gives.

806
You can think of SS as like a nightclub or expensive bar.

Previously there was a dress code and vetted to get in.  Once in you had to meet a minimum standard to stay a useful part.

Now they've axed the door security and the dress code, let everyone in and once in you can do whatever you like as there are no standards.

Net result, millions of new low quality images from new contributors who'd never previously have qualified.

807
I got the following when i queried the "OR" statement.

The official response was this:-

Quote
If you have 300 approved videos and your acceptance rate is over 50% then you qualify and should receive your code in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

808
The only rejections now seem to be for editorial caption or a faulty model release.  I havent seen or heard of a single technical rejection of any image for a long time and looking at a lot of the people on the forum with "why arent my photos selling" who have awful ones i dont think they do.
Its possible they're using AI to review captions and maybe even releases but i can't see any sort of human intervention on images any more.

809
Adobe is growing for me month on month but is still only about 50% SS income.

That said its been a steady rising trend for a while so is catching up as SS levels off.

810
Pretty much identical trend here.
My download numbers are steadily and increasing slowly.  But the RPD is dropping because more and more of them are going to subs and lower prices images.
Looking at my graphs my royalty per dowload has dropped over 50% in the last 2.5 years.

811
The new stable "normal" is roughly what i earned in 2014 with a portfolio 15% of the size.

As others have said, the map is like a nostalgia trip - reminding me of images i took years ago and forgot existed.
I had 2 from my application 10 images sell this week that had never sold before!

You should probably report this to SS at :-

Yesterday I had first 0.03$ video sale...

If that's true i'd message support on their forum or email.  Mistakes like that do happen and have been corrected before now.

814
The supply otstripping the demand!  jeez we have known that for year now, nothing new!  no I dont buy that anymore theres got to be something else. before it was just some people, some camps crying and complaining NOW it almost everyone!

Im going with supply outstripping demand.  Exponential increase since mid 2015....

815
A manhole fire IS an IT issue.
It means they have absolutely no effective backup or redundancy planning and the whole thing relies on a single point of failure.

They also said that was completely fixed yesterday.

816
Galleries not loading at all (timing out or no images)
And the main shutterstock.com buyers portal is either very slow or more often than not, timing out with error 500.

I wonder what todays excuse will be.

817
Got a sale from Kazakhstan so at least its not a zero day.

I uploaded a video and it got processed, keyworded and now in pending.  Ive also submitted the 70 photos i had waiting.

FTP seems to work.

Keyword suggestion still doesn't  - it loads but cant find any search results.

818
It also doesn't explain why it broke at the same time last Sunday.
And the one before that.

819
When you stop quality controlling submitted images and your goal is to be the "biggest" you end up with over a million images a week being added.
That's going to kill your infrastructure rapidly regardless of switching to AWS or other systems.

"MORE MORE MORE" is possibly good from a shareholder point of view but really bad from an IT management point of view!

820
It looks like a load issue - things are timing out.  Sometimes it works, often things dont.

So far
- the dashboard accepted/pending thing doesnt work
- the keyword suggestion doesnt work
- FTP doesnt work

...and from a buyers side:-

- search times out
- contributors galleries dont work

They've managed to break both buyer AND contributor stuff at the same time.

I guess their exponential expansion due to the "accept everything" policy is starting to catch up with their creaky infrastructure and coding.

Certainly possible for bots to review editorial captions, check model releases have all the correct bits actually filled in and so on.

You CAN use AI fairly well to detect image noise, burnt out highlights and out of focus these days. Whether they do or not i don't know.  Adobe does - it gives you a warning of a possibly suspect image in your queue before submission.

I just don't see any actual person-looking-at-an-image going on in RF at all now.  Everything is accepted.  I can quite happily accept its less than 5 seconds for someone to "check" my image.

Also if they're using machine learning/AI it wont always necessarily be consistent between days or images.

822
What . is the point of "recently reviewed" ?!
Rejected had a use (although SS dont seem to reject anything at all now).
I cant see why i'd ever need to know the number of images i had reviewed in a 3 week period.

Confusing as you already seem to have a drone profile as someone else said.

The "best" time for drone photography was about 2 years ago.  Up until DJI released the mavic, it was quite hard or time consuming for people to get aerial pictures and there was quite a market.

Since then, the mavic, spark, air have meant that pretty much every person on the street owns a drone, can take their own imagery as well as submitting it to stock sites.  The things are everywhere in daily life now.

You can still make some money if you already have a drone for other purposes but whether its worth actually investing one specifically for microstock im not convinced.

Especially with the current SS issue of image saturation and new images being punished and hidden in the search.

Seems to me certain contributors are just "waved through" the system.

As far as technical standards (exposure, noise, white balance, focus, sharpness etc etc) EVERYONE gets waved through.  Again, a quick glance at their own forum shows newcomers asking why no sales and you look at the portfolio and not a single one of their images would have been accepted by the previous policy.  There are a few examples on there on the moment (bad form to directly link to them though).

SS QC now basically seems to be check for releases, check for editorial captions then click accept.  No actual technical evaluation, im not convinced anyone even looks at the images now.
Maybe they're unofficially doing an Alamy now and only QCing a few images per batch.

I've had a few released for missing colons in editorial captions and a few model release ones i used to use but rejected (and i cant tell why) lately.
What they dont seem to do now is check the technical aspect of images (ie look at the images).
Time and time again you see "why am i not selling" questions on the SS format and the portfolios show horrific exposure, noise and everything else wrong with them.
One guy even had a few images with his watermark in the corner accepted.

Things like the editorial captioning could easily have been outsourced to bots i guess.
