Usually the person who uploads the photo. As long as the buyer is using the photo in a way that is allowed under the license they've purchased, then there's not much they could be liable for. And Shutterstock does say...

"Welcome to Shutterstock! We license images you can confidently use for any project. Legal protection you don't get from free sites. Peace of mind if you need images of people or landmarks."

I guess SS could be held responsible, but it will be in the terms that you take responsibility for the content you upload and you have the right to upload them etc etc... so if it came down to it, it would probably be on the contributor. In theory.

Adobe Stock / Re: Which country do we receive our payment from?

I got my latest one from [email protected] (found that on the transaction page) but yeah, from Adobe Canada Services Corporation.

803
Got mine too - I assuming that after applying the code the normal billing is put on hold for a year?

Yeah, I applied my code and it now says 23/08/2019 for my next billing date.

804
Got mine as well!

....but this split should be coming out of agency margins not contributors.

You've lost me. On BB, the different royalty split is coming out of agency margins. And whether on BB or not, the "cost of doing business, promotion, affiliate costs, blah freakin blah" is also coming out of agency margins.

They have better rates at some of the agencies. I know they said at Shutterstock, you'll get a bit more than you would normally, even after the 15%.

How's that possible? They get higher royalties from SS or SS charges more for their clips?

Yeah, they get higher royalties. It's a shame they don't advertise what these higher rates are though (apart from at SS), as it would definitely be a positive to draw people in... but I assume that the first rule of BlackBox/Agency club is that you don't talk about the royalty percentage of BlackBox/Agency club. Would cause potential issues when negotiating future deals with other such setups.

All agencies are completely dead. There is 0% reason for anyone to continue to upload videos or photos. To do so is a complete waste of time and money

Lol!

And i think the most coolest thing about BB is: They managed it that Storyblocks raised their price for HD footage to $79, so that Storyblcok's commission cut doesn't hurt so much.

I think they were a contributing factor at best!

That's not been my experience. I only make about 3% of my monthly stock earnings from FT/AS.

811
So they put it down to $12.50?

A friend of mine once told me that the best way to explain it to another was to tell them to log in to their Fotolia front page, click the "my account" button in the top right hand corner, and then scroll down to the bottom where it displays your colour ranking, weekly position and overall position.

Hope this helps your buddy!

A wonderful description of how to find it... I couldn't have explained it better myself! I have passed on the details, thanks!

June was my BME on Pond5. At this rate, August will be my worst month since April 2015!

Obvioulsy I know where this rank is that you speak of, as I've been on Fotolia/Adobe Stock for a few years and I know everything... obviously. But say I was trying to explain to a friend where one would find this rank, that I know all about... what do you think would be the best way to explain it to them?

BME for me. I can only assume they've tweaked the search engine, so some people are benefitting from the change and some are missing out. Swings and roundabouts... I'm sure they'll tweak it again before long!

There are many, many, many authors meeting $100 every month on Pond5, believe me. $5,000+ is not that uncommon. Yes, you most likely need 500+ video clips or quality music for that though.

They sell footage for millions each month but of course, there are quite a few clips so if you're new with a small portfolio it's hard to be seen.

Sales create more sales and new stuff isn't too visible in the search engine. But after a few years when you have high ranking stuff the sales can really roll in. It takes time.

Can you please tell me how much you got from video sales at Pond5 per month?
and is it really possoble to get 5000$ per month for video sales at Pond5??

Thanks

At Pond5, I've made an average of $600 per month this year. So still a long way off $10 to $30K, but it's reasonable!

Have politicians ever done that?

Cite a higher raise in taxes, then only raise them slightly? Yes, many many times.

(In my example - there was still a 5% raise in taxes. However, how it was "worded" is people think they are "saving" 5%, but the wording is "5% off the original 10%", so it is still a 5% raise. Not a 10% raise.

lol - I guess it works though. Re-read what I wrote - and you'll see there still was a '5%' raise... :P

Yeah I understand what you said, I'm just wanting to know where was this country where they said they were raising it to 10% and then they only raised it to 5%, and when was this?

819
Have politicians ever done that?

820
True, but it's been like that from day one.

821
The microstock market is not growing.

I'd say the market is growing. Impossible to say for certain, as none of them make their figures public other than Shutterstock... but they're currently 16% up year on year, and I don't think they've had a single quarter when total revenue dropped.

822
So what's the solution/best course of action for contributors?

VideoBlocks / Re: Commission cut
« on: August 09, 2018, 23:21 »
Well lets just hope they put their money where their mouth is and spend well on marketing to get new buyers in. Hope a pricing system is also in the works

There is a pricing system in place. You upload your stuff and there's a system that prices your items at the current rates they've set for HD and 4K. Unless you're referring to a pricing system that's different than the current one... in which case, you're usually best to explain the type of pricing system you want.

824
professional videographers would never upload to this loose change bogus site

Set your own prices, royalties up to around 70%, they've paid out as much royalties as Shutterstock... what's bogus about them?

825
Did you fill in your foreign tax ID number? If you don't then they accept you're from the country you say you are... but still charge you 30% on US sales, but if you do, then they apply the reduced rate to US sales as well.
