For future reference, is there a place you would post updates if the site is down for a while?  Facebook?  Tweets?
sadly, I did even resort to Twitter for updates

I just wait, usually it's in by now, or close. I don't have enough history to guess what mine will be. (Currently have only 2 sad lonely sales for March so the PP had better be ginormous to bring that month into line.)

wasn't sure if it was me, or Telstra.... but would you believe in that hour I got over a dozen images edited and uploaded instead? :)

OK. Useful. That can be fixed
The others were shot with a Nikon D80. 18-200 VR lens which stays on the camera pretty much all the time. However the dust must have got there somehow so the sensor will need to be cleaned. Sounds like a job for Nikon.

you can also: put camera on tripod  facing downwards (or do this hand held once you're confident), take lens off, lock up mirror for cleaning, and using a blower brush carefully - without touching the sensor! - blow up into the chamber. don't use aerosol stuff, just a normal blower (think mine is a giotto, looks like a retro rocket ship). turn camera off to drop mirror down. clean lens and put back on. that should work.

One two of my aircraft images can be seen here:

Noting fantastic. Just a basic handheld stuff...

not even looking at subject matter etc, I see dust spots.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Return Per Image- Newbie Question
« on: March 19, 2013, 05:22 »
^ exactly. I have in my mind how much each shoot "owes" me, and I try to take stock shots on shoots that are paid by my other work, so they sort of start out "free" (assuming my editing work is unpaid   :) ).  of course I'm only small fry, as I don't set up and pay for models and stuff like the Big Players. At this stage I'm just squeezing it in between paid jobs.

love your port!
are those oldies your parents?

wish mine were that genetically blessed! I'm trying to find some willing oldies as the boomers are going to be the biggest money spending group in the next 10 years (so say the demographers)

Newbie Discussion / Re: Rejected Application to Istock Help!
« on: March 19, 2013, 03:53 »
You should probably wait until 2nd Feb and resubmit. I hear they will need a lot more contributors after that.

Lol! Why is that? (I'm curious)

because there is a small contingent of photographers that hate IS. if you are good at what you do IS is second to none (in my opinion) to any other microstock agency.

Thanks. And yeah, you have to be like SUPER good! They're very picky.

actually one of the things I like about iS is how picky they are. they often find errors other agencies didn't, and when they have a reason for rejecting I believe them (ouch, it hurts to be told you're not good enough at isolations), whereas when the others hand out their nonsensical rejections I just roll my eyes.

837
yes I am, and I get the Stockuploader quit unexpectedly box

838
i installed it last week and it won't run, gave it a week and redownloaded and installed today. same result.

839
perhaps they have a lot of ex iS contributors coming over? even a couple with giant ports would slow things down in the short term.

840
but what is also mystifying is if you do a random search you can easily find ports that are chock o block with similars (and dumb ones too).

The funniest one is when they reject them all for being too similar to each other, and none get through.

In that case I just wait a few months and submit one or two again, if I can be bothered.

(I also had this exact thing happen today with Fotolia)

I think the process has stuck and of course they'll be nobody available at IS over the weekend to take any action.

we *hope* it's stuck, else it's going to be dire. how many more points will they fall, FT is not that far behind now.

« on: March 16, 2013, 05:39 »
Vannphoto, I was reffering to my own files. I sell now the same as when I had 300 files. I was not reffering to another port of 300.

ah. I see your point. and given that DT doesn't allow similars your port of 700 is more versatile than anywhere else?

It's a sad thought that I could double my port at DT and not see much difference in sales.

No matter how non-cmmercial are my files, a 700 port must sell better than a 300 port. And they are selling on SS and FT. So must be something with DT.

hmm, except my 300 port outsells yours.

blondes V brunettes
beardys V cleanshaven

oh what a demographer's dream.

here we go, should be interesting to see how it goes.

847
thanks, would have deleted this thread if I could see a big fat delete button somewhere :/

848
Just saw one of my images for sale with them, are they affiliated with a large agency and this is just PP (or whatever everyone calls it) ?
my image is watermarked with a bigstock logo.  ??
http://www.crystalgraphics.com/

never mind, i googled it and found the info.
I did in fact search here and returned zero results, but a google search yielded plenty of results for this site. the search box here is not so crash hot, just sayin'

I was once told that nothing dates an image more quickly than clothes (i.e. people) and cars so I've tended to keep away from both.

you haven't noticed most stock images feature people in block colours, ie red tshirt + jeans or single colour dress? things like that don't date quite so quickly.

of course you might be right and you might not be good enough? are you trained/experienced at all?

Dreamstime.com / Re: Change in Similars Policy
« on: March 13, 2013, 18:33 »
I'm not seeing any changes in this so call new policy either.  Today I had 6 different poses of the the same subject and they all were rejected.  Talk is cheap!!
If they were all rejected then surely that isn't because of similars.   If it was similars that they didn't want then they would have approved at least one.
sometimes I think they forget to approve even one. I've had that happen too, 3 images rejected as being too similar to each other, and then, oops, zero go through. you just have to laugh and move on, clearly they didn't like them enough in the first place. (a case of "we're just not that into you")
