I heard things have changed and active contributors get pushed.
This is true. If you don't contribute regularly, you get severely punished in the search results. In my experience, not contributing enough to clear their threshold costs you about 25-30% in earnings.
It's cost me 90% of my earnings. I haven't contributed much to the other micros either, but they are either still growing or remaining steady (with IS being the exception).
No biggie for me though...I've been wanting to leave Fotolia for a few years now. They just made it very easy to do.
On any day 70 - 90% of my sales are from images that have been uploaded in the last 6 months. My old best sellers rarely sell now. If I hadn't uploaded for the last 6 months then I would have very few sales.

You aren't likely to see many american sales over the 4 day 'weekend'

I have never seen such skyrocketting sales at DT, as now and on a daily basis.
Same here. I hope that this default search doesn't get changed for a while.
Yup, so do I. Its not only because of the search though. DT, is clever, they pretty much stay out of the limelight of troubles plus the fact its a very good agency, well run, etc. The bosses also take a personal interest in their agency, not just moneywise but the way things are run. That can sometimes make one hell of a differance. Yes. DT is on its way, BIG time.
Yes, personally I feel more positive about DT than I do about any of the sites. It was mostly number 1 for me for months with a couple of badish months recently and now it's back at the top.

I might be wrong, but as far as I have it the only change is when people look at your portfolio. Not sure if it influences the similar images display (will be nice if it does). And you definitely do not have to add anyone else's images to your own sets. If it is not in a set, it is still displayed as normal in your portfolio.
The sets are a mere additional option to buyers to view your images. That is exactly my (and surely SS's) view, to make it easier for the buyer to find what they are looking for. Do not use it and you will not offer a function to your buyers which other contributors do.
That's the way I saw it. Most customers will never see your sets unless they actually go into your portfolio. I think all it does is make it easier for buyers to search your port for mor images.

I don't bother keeping track which images get accepted by which site. In the end, it doesn't make a difference. If an image is rejected on one site and accepted on another and I think it is an image that's going to be a big seller I'll see if I can fix the problem, otherwise I'll just continue on with the next image.
I often create folders of 'batches' of images. Once I have a new batch ready (I use batches of 50), I copy those images into an 'upload' folder for each site (so I have 10 copies of the same image on my hard drive - one in each folder for each site). Then after I upload the image, I delete it from the corresponding folder.
That is exactly what I do. Works for me. If an image gets rejected that I think will be a good seller I put it back into my folder for that agency I wait and see how well it sells at the other agencies. If it turns out to be a good seller then I fix it and reupload it. I rarely do that though.

It isn't quite as simple as that. If for instance you are 32,400 and you share the same number of dls with a group of other people then they will all have the same ranking of 32,400.

It seems to me that IS are slowly disintergrating. It's just one thing after another in the ever-reducing functionality of the site. I've never seen anything like it for a business that big. It's not as if they haven't got the resources, it just seems that nobody cares enough any more to do anything about it.
Sigh!.... Cant you find it in your heart to just say one single little positive thing about IS ? youre beginning to sound like a broken record. Whats next on your hate-list? or do you just hate everybody and everything that doesnt include you.
Just wondering which part of Gostwyck's post you don't agree with because I agree with every single word.

Where do you see if you are opted in to novel use sales? I've had a look round and can't find it. I've never had one so may be opted out already.
MyAlamy > Contributor Infomation > Additional Revenue Opportunities > (Scroll down to Novel Use, then click on the link 'Want to sign up?' Don't panic, clicking on the link doesn't sign you up, it takes you to a page with more info about the scheme. At the top of the page it will tell you if you've opted out, and at the bottom of the page it says Yes ... or No ... and you'll see if you've opted out (and presumably if you're opted in). I'm almost certain the default is opted out. You can opt in any time, but if you have opted in, you can't opt out until 1st April.
Thank you:D Seems I've been opted out since 2010. Didn't even know I had joined then as only started to upload half way through this year.
I think that's the default message from when the scheme started.
OK thanks, that explains it.

It's been a constantly moving number for me as more of my port has been transferred over, increasing PP sales, whilst IS income slowly falls. I've therefore used last month's 44% for the poll. The PP is pretty much equal to DT for me nowadays.
The pp only gives me about a 1/6 or 1/7 of my DT earnings. It's more on par with places like BS, Deposit, Canstock or 123rf.

Like hell its dead! take this weekend for example which are notrmally flat. DT, was the only one producing large and juicy sales. Not dead but very much alive!. DT, is the only agency which reminds me of a trad-agency, good pricing and well run. You just have to supply them with what sell and of good commercial value and thats it.
Must be why DT has fallen 10 points on the Microstock Pole Results in the past six months. Not all contributors are suffering from DTs downturn but I bet the vast majority are.
That doesn't necessarily mean that the site is doing badly. You could have 50 people report in the charts that the site is down because they have gone from 10dls a month to 5dls a month and have a handful of top contributors double their sales. In the charts it would look like the site was doing badly when in fact it could be doing much better.

And for those people who will come to this thread and post about how great they are and how they rarely have anything rejected and how when they touch water it turns to wine and on, and on . . .
We were answering the part of your question, is EVERYTHING being rejected over at Fotolia? If you only wanted negative answers then you should have stated that. As far as I'm concerened if I uploaded for instance nature photos then I would also have a lot of rejections. I think it is a lot to do with what sort of photos you upload. Somebody that uploads mainly people shots and gets lots of rejections needs to improve their photography but somebody that uploads mostly nature maybe just needs to change the subject of their photography.

Im talking about this week! or say the last 5 days which cant have escaped you.
The last 5 days include the days when there were loads of Sod's. The 12th, 13th and 14th were the good days.

True! worst week ever almost and for everybody.
I think I stay away from these sets. Couple of friends at SS did these sets, etc and all of a sudden their earnings went right down and these guys have big ports and I mean BIG.
Not true, it was probably my best week ever. I thought that you were one of the others that had loads of SOD sales last week, I don't see how doing the sets can possible lower your sales!!!!

37% six months average (with very little variance each month)
That is just about the same as me. Not much variance and about 37%

Not one dl today. This is beyond a joke.
Today has been much quieter than Mon-Thu at IS - but then Fridays are often quiet as it's the weekend already in Asia.
This week has been much better than the last few at IS (not great, but much, much better). Not sure if this means it's a swing to indie content or just Christmas-heavy downloads. Nearly half of yesterday's downloads were Christmas images.
It may be that the odd forum situation (I don't spend much time there, but had gone to look because someone elsewhere had mentioned things running amok with no hammering in sight) means some sort of change is coming. As long as they keep the site cobbled together enough to keep selling through Christmas...
I've been selling better than usual there this week. Looks like there might well be a swing in favour of independents. Like you say nothing brilliant buy much better than usual.

Exactly! and a very weird thread. See I am sure the OP is under the impression that only because he is earning 8K now, he will also do this in the future? not so. I strongly believe that he is not too aware of all these lowering of commissions, cut-rates, killer search-changes and all that or perhaps has had the fortune of not being effected by is, YET! but it will come. Take Lisa! one of our most professional and prolific suppliers of the industry. Her earnings been cut in half! if that isnt a sign of the times, I dont know what is? and myself! two years back I was earning well above his 8K, today Im trailling by at least 30% less, however I am lucky in the sense that my 20 years of supplying the RM industry is ofcourse paying off a hell of a lot more.
Its not going forward, as the OP tends to think, its going backwards.
However whatever he decides, good luck to him and his decisions.
I have to agree with you on this. I'm earning just over half of what I was at my peak and have gone from 5 sites to 11 since then.
