A price readjustment was long overdue, but this is a bit drastic. Really reeks of desperation.
Unless volumes return to 2009-10 levels this will amount to a huge pay cut to indies, as their prices are now inline with cheap sites, but their royalties are about half what the other cheapo sites pay.
Honestly, I doubt they can regain good will with the buyers they lost over the past couple of years simply by slashing prices. After all, a lot of those buyers were also contributors, and yet another gut kick to contributor incomes is hardly a way to endear themselves.
I don't even see how exclusives could be happy about this, since it makes exclusive content seem even more overpriced by comparison.
Yes, and a price ratio of upwards 20 to 1 between collections for many images which are of similar quality is confusing to say the least.

That was my first thought. People have just recovered, that their royalties will not be slashed, now they will see that their files will have to compete bitterly with bestselling independent content.
I like the new design of the site though. Glad those flames are gone and it all looks much cleaner.
They are going to raise prices on a lot of the better nonexclusive content.
Yes, but it doesn't look like that's happening any time soon.

I don't know, I see this as having pricing all over the place. Hard to say how it will turn out.

My sales are about on a par with the prior two weeks, but the $ are significantly down. P+ was a significant income booster when they introduced it and continued to be, right up until a week ago.
Since I chose my P+ files by DL/month, which seems pretty logical, I am surprised that they didn't keep them in the S+ collection. As much money as I'm losing on those sales, Istock is moving 81% more.
I'm not sure any significant number of independent files made it into S+.

Sales are way down since the Collections introduction. Aggravating and frustrating. Even if things recover in a couple of months, events like this can drive you down to the next lower royalty level and therefore impact you for well over a year. In addition, iS has eliminated the self nomination of files into P+/S+ and they seem to have a very high bar for the + collections...on the order of 1% of new submissions getting into +. This may also drive down long term revenue for contributors.

I'm exclusive and so far with this change my sales have fallen through the floor!...so aggravating.

All my files were P+, now they are all main. I guess that means that my miniscule IS income will be cut in 1/2, thus making the site formerly known as Istock really just a front for the partner program. Luckily the content I still have there is mostly just to keep an eye on what they are doing and not really part of my income stream anymore.
All of P+ are Main also but supposedly further adjustments are coming.
...coming, but when? Sounded like it was in the distant future after they adjusted all the exclusive content. In the meaning, we all lose income and take a hit on the RC's making it harder to maintain or grow in levels.
It's kind of shocking to look at where the independent price points went to. I looked at some top independent contributors and looks like the bulk (all?) of their images are priced in the bottom tier.

from where I sit, there has been a long downtrend in downloads at IS. However, $$$ seemed to survive, until the the watershed change in September of 2012. After that, it's been quite downhill in $$$ as well.

I have used PS CS6 for video editing. Works quite well. Not doing anything overly sophisticated. However, I find that I need Mpegstreamclip to get the video into proper format for uploading.

For what it's worth, sometimes things like "losing export presets" in LR are caused by changes in the preferences. For example changing the checkbox in "Preferences->store presets with catalog" will cause Lightroom to look at a different folder for presets etc.. Changing the checkbox back will bring back the presets.

I was kind of expecting this would happen at some point, but later rather than sooner.

I think the risk to exclusives include: -removal of the ability to put files directly into Sig+ -the "thresholds" for booting content down into the "main" lower priced collection

They are taking away control from contributors over their portfolios. Plain and simple, not a good thing from contributor's standpoint (esp. exclusives, at least there is some upside for indies with an opening into higher price points). Even if this is a long term positive for buyers. It will probably take a few years to reap that benefit.

".......... why would Getty push the file they only get %60 for, when they could get %85?"
Why are they even maintaining Exclusivity now .... what's in it for them?
The belief is that it brings in customers for the unique content. However, in the future if they find that non-ex content sells as well as exclusive content at the same price point, that may change the perception...

The question is what happened in the first place that required all this public best match modification and manipulation?

I believe in LR if you have a keyword that has parent keywords the way to avoid exporting the parent keyword is to edit the subkeyword and uncheck the box that says "Export containing keywords". This may prevent parent keywords from being exported when you create export your files for upload out of LR.

^ Better communication from above would help at iS. But realistically, unless the sales slide is reversed things won't improve.

I had a dreadful month at iS. I didn't post there because I don't see the point anymore and I've come to expect continual decline at iS as the new normal.
Is there a way to know how many people participated in the poll here?

FWIW, I have had GI sales in the range of a couple of dollars, but I also had others in the equivalent of ELs.
It's not all one dollar sales, I had a few $100+ and a lot of $ 50+ ones. The overall RPD is higher from Getty by 2x than IStock at about $20.
Congratulations that your RPD is double that of istock. I was with getty for 4 years and I was never that lucky. I do wonder, if your results are so good, why dont you upload to getty only? If you are such a successful shooter they will certainly give you a place in their house program and then you can also send images to their RM program. That is definetly a real advantage because they probably have the biggest RM program of anyone on the market.
For me it was obvious that I was getting more for sales on istock. So I stopped uploading to Getty 18 months ago. But maybe my style just wasnt the right one for them.
When I was uploading to Getty directly a few years ago, the RPI and RPD exceeded my iStock collection. However, when Getty started going overboard with the editing, I pretty much stopped uploading directly there. Getty/E+ RPI seems lower than what I got a few years ago uploading directly.

Intresting to see, reading the forums, that a lot of people are happy with the Getty sales and they are pushing more and more images to E+. Yes, the Getty sales will increase, but what is going to happen to the iStock sales? I bet they will go down more and more. At the end, iStock will be just another Getty collection.
Yes, i fear you may ultimately be correct.

You can just copy and paste to a text file, and then import that into excel. The question is how, then to get it into the jpg...
that's the part I want to be able to do....magically connect it all
Lightroom or Adobe Bridge?...one file at a time of course . Maybe if you know how to write plug-ins for Lightroom it can be automated?

Again. what is 'standard rf pricing'? You don't know. Could start at $20, could start at $50. You don't know and you don't get to know.
Maybe I'm missing something here, are you saying as it is now there is no standard rf pricing so 'standard rf pricing' is a meaningless term? Or are you saying you think they are lying and they'll change the pricing even though they seem to have said they won't?
"Standard RF pricing" is a vague term. if you go onto gettyimages.com there are stated price points ("list prices" if you will) for the images there and they vary by "collection" there is no absolute standard. With 360 you cannot even look at the actual "list prices" of the images because you have no access to the 360 website.

I'm not interested in resurrecting any drama around here. I thought we'd all grown up by now.
I appreciate the majority of the well wishes and as those of you know who I chat with via messages etc., at the end of the day our interests are the same. I'm not looking for handouts or wooyays. it will be tough for a while and I know it.
Stacey, good luck to you as an independent. I think there may ultimately be many more of us exclusives to follow if things continue as they are at iS.
