I have the impression that the Google thing turned out to be of almost no practical or significant consequence.
Unless you happen to be one whose image they stole.
I know that it is a fact that the Google thing really upset a lot of people. But I don't think anyone else (users) has really noticed / remembered that Google Docs offers people free to use stock images within their Google Docs. That is what I mean about it having "no practical or significant consequence" - that really nobody cares (apart from the miffed). It just is not something which people talk or blog about today or which is considered a great feature of Google Docs. Actually the only thing I ever hear people say about Google Docs is that iWork is a less horrible experience for document sharing in the cloud. I really do not think that many people are actually using the pictures for anything that could be even vaguely considered commercial. Therefore I really do not think that it likely represents any significant loss of sales. I think it turned out to be more or less benign. And I certainly do not believe it likely that any significant number of people are using it as a source of free images to use outside of the terms and conditions. The people who steal images would not buy them anyhow remember.

I dont really feel compelled to explain myself to people who hide behind anonymity, demanding transparency.
The quality of the conversation here has deteriorated since anonymous posting was discouraged. The spectrum of opinion has narrowed considerably.

Am I correct that iStock did not require shoot description, shoot date, models DOB a couple of years ago?
No. DOB was required at least as far back as 2007 (see this post for example). Shoot date and description were added as part of the Sept 2009 changes.

It is really very simple and I am surprised than anyone is in any doubt: You should not change a legal document after it has been signed and witnessed.
A document is signed and witnessed as it is exists - not how it might be at some point in the future. If you add information then that is a different document.
If you change the information on a legal document after it has been signed and witnessed then it is a forgery. It is not the document which they signed.

If you were really trying to help In a genuine way I dont think you would choose to be so rude however frustrating.
No I was genuinely trying to help. I like your pictures as I have told you previously on this forum. I certainly do not want to argue with you. Sorry to get annoyed. If you want them to accept the picture then go back to the examples I linked to and you will quickly see where you are going wrong. If you do not get the format how they want it they will reject it. Apart from the actual format, a well written caption is also potentially about SEO - either now or perhaps in the future. The point being that the words you use may help your picture to be found at some point. Therefore if 'vintage' is a significant word then yes you should include it IMO. Also make sure to carefully think through what other words or expressions are significant. It's a 'day trip' ? And avoid repetition.

And good luck sending it to scout - might get a response this time next year
Probably thanks to it being spammed up with time wasters.
I tell you what Bumhill, take your facetious insults elsewhere.
I have repeatedly tried to help you get this right as have others. And you have repeatedly, seemingly almost deliberately, ignored the advice. It becomes completely frustrating after a while. So why not just follow the examples and do it right instead of blaming them ?

Unfortunately I fear you are wasting your time. He doesn't ever listen.

Why don't you read the advice in this thread and refer to the iStock instructions instead of trying to do it your own way and then getting cross ? Apart from your lousy English, you are not getting the format right.
Or is this a wind-up ? It is starting to seem like one.

Indeed, but Stocksy say they want 'natural'.
I do not know but maybe you are being too literal. I am not part of it and cannot imagine either applying or being accepted. But I think they are building a very strong collection. It's good to admire what other sites do when they do something really well - and they clearly have very good editors.

Check out this guy: http://www.stocksy.com/ShaneGross
A true master in his niche, he brings something completely new to the table. Awesome pictures.
Mantis does that too. Is underwater photography new?
The Stocksy ones are very strong compositions. And the use of light is outstanding. That is not to say that other people do not also make fantastic underwater pictures - but typically underwater pictures tend to look like they belong in a science book - where as many of the Stocksy ones look to me like they belong on a cinema screen. Look at the scale and ambition of them. Wow. Impossible not to be impressed.

But to sell photos on my own website(Symbiostock) I have to be at least self employed or not? I mean when travelling and not staying 90 days in one country.
The normal thing is that you are taxed on residency - which is about how many days you spend in a country during a tax year. US citizens are the exception - since the US taxes nationality irrespective of residency (with exceptions AFAIK when there is a tax agreement). Only the US does it differently from everyone else AFAIK. If you are not from the US and do not stay in any country for more than however many days then there is no tax liability. No doubt there are exceptions but, in general, if you keep on travelling you are not resident anywhere and therefore have no income tax liability. Domicility is different from residency. But that does not tend to affect income tax. ETA: also (and this is going to be controversial) - I would not put a lot of expectations into what you are gong to earn with Symbiostock. Unless you are tremendously and unusually successful you are not going to make almost any money with Symbiostock. The agencies are where the money is and there is no likelihood of that changing. I am being honest here but will get minus votes for saying this. Only people with very many existing customers are going to make any money with Symbiostock. And stock buyers, in general, do not have artist loyalty.

I like travel photography, after finishing my studies I would like to travel around the world. Can I stay being sole trader in the UK without having any address there?
Being a "sole trader" implies residency. You will only generally be considered resident for UK tax if you exceed 183 midnights in the UK - or an average of 91 days per tax year over 4 years. These guidelines change from time to time. If you are travelling there should be no need to pay tax anywhere - assuming you do not stay in any particular country long enough to be considered tax resident (the minimum period I know of is 90 days). Live on the web - airbnb.com and a great portfolio is all you need. If only I had a great portfolio I would be off ... When / if you get back to the UK then you could again register for self employment. but I would like to start my Symbiostock site so that I should registered a company/self-employment
Yes to self employment - but no to registering a company. You do not want to start a company. I think you know that. Self employment is quite different from staring a company. To start a company you would need resident directors etc. That would make it complicated for you when you are ready to travel. Self employment, by contrast, is nice and simple. You tenancy agreement (rental contract) might have restrictions about operating a business or trade from home. However - when the landlord or agent understands what you are doing that should not be a problem - assuming they understand that there are no insurance implications. Best of luck. PS - one slight problem I can think of is Paypal -- don't they need you to have a permanent residency ? No doubt one of the travellers here has a solution for that. Perhaps a family address in Poland. Paypal once imposed a temporary security restriction on my account because I accessed it from an IP address in a different country from usual.

But the Uk info was in the description. Surely if all the info is there it doesn't matter what order it is put>
Description:
llandudno, Wales, UK August 08, 2013
Seaside coach on the Great Orme road, Llandudno North Wales with driver giving a guided tour via a microphone to passengers on the coach who are looking out at the view out to sea.
If you want it accepted then do it how they want it and not how you think it is surely good enough. Format it exactly like in the examples here and here. Not almost like. Start with a capital letter. Don't miss out the colon. Don't add a huge gap or make it a new paragraph. Also - if you are going to bother, then why not try to craft a better caption about the coach trip? Reading it out loud to yourself should help. Two sentences often works well. You say a thing - and then you add something more but being careful to use different words so as to avoid repetition.

Scenery like that should be shot in the blue hour. That should ba basic knowledge if you are involved in photography for more than 15 minutes. If you do that, you just have to set WB so the sky is a rich purplish blue, and it's gonna be all ok.
I would like to dispute your perspective (which IMO sounds like the sort of thing people might say at a camera club TBH). How a picture looks is utterly subjective. And suppose I need a picture which is about the effect of light pollution - which typically does have that nasty orange caste. FWIW I come from the pre digital world of film, and am completely used to the idea of using gels and filters to balance the effects of different sorts of artificial lights. I also used to be good at color printing in the darkroom back even before RA-4 came along. If there is a problem with Ron's picture, perhaps it is that the sky could maybe be somewhat darker. But for what it is I don't see that it matters terribly. I think they should leave it for the customers to decide if it works for them or not.

Sigh......they rejected it again despite me following their example YET AGIAN
Llandudno Wales August 7, 2013: Vintage Holiday Coach
Seaside coach on the Great Orme road, Llandudno North Wales with driver giving a guided tour via a microphone to passengers on the coach who are looking out at the view out to sea.
Why not just do it in the proper format - as in the links I posted, instead of trying to do it your own way ? And - I think you could probably write a better caption than that too. If you are going to bother. Aim for two sentences with no repetition.

Squarespace is a good place to build a portfolio - a place to point clients to, with examples of the work you have sold, tear sheets, existing clients etc. www.squarespace.comIf you want to build a place to sell pictures - well that is a completely different proposition. Unless you have existing customers or a strong brand you will struggle to sell stock in any meaningful way from a one person website because the agencies offer the variety of top quality work which can only be provided by hundreds or even thousands of photographers

Are sales actually being reported at the moment, or has the outage on that page blocked reporting?
My sales have been completely ****ed since early last week. Literally days in a row without sales which is a very new experience for me. But others are reporting sales as normal so I guess it is just a me thing.
