General Stock Discussion / Re: Projected Revenue?« on: February 07, 2011, 10:44 »
For me DT makes less than 10% of my total stock income. And my portfolio is mainly wildlife / nature as well. So if a similar relation in sales between the different agencies holds for you as well, you might make a lot more than today.
Some disclaimers: - your DT percentage is currently higher as an exclusive, so the direct comparison does not work - my best earner is FT where it can take a long time for images to get a good search position (some of my old files from 2007 keep on selling although there are competing images that I believe are better quality - hard to tell how that will impact your sales if you upload now) - my numbers are from a total of about 20 sites... 958

You mean 3550? Because that's exactly the size I upsize my pics to (the original 3504 from the 30D are just a tiny little bit too small...). Or are you talking about a different format (not 3:2)? 960

I had one reversed at FT 11 months after the original sale. I remember reading in the forums from other contributors about cases where it was more than 18 months. Luckily I am not affected this time at IS - maybe it was a good idea to deactivate my portfolio before year end... ![]() 961

Alamy.com / Re: Thinking about joing Alamy« on: February 03, 2011, 04:20 »
Pretty easy, but wrong. Why? Because 1 MB = 1024x1024 Bytes. 1 MP = 1000x1000 Pixels. You'll need around 8,5 MP to get to 24 MB uncompressed size. 963
Alamy.com / Re: Thinking about joing Alamy« on: February 02, 2011, 08:27 »As far as your concern about the uncompressed file size been below 24 mb it completely depend on the illustration and the amount of effects used in it. AFAIK the uncompressed file size only depends on the number of pixels and nothing else (assuming working with 8 bit color depth). For the file size after JPG compression obviously the content is important. I think the confusion comes from them (Alamy) making requirements for uncompressed size while they expect us to submit compressed (JPG) files. The file size you see on your hard drive is not the same as the "uncompressed file size". 964

You can't really upload to IS without the risk of images going live before your exclusivity ends, but to improve your workflow you can use deepmeta and prepare all your files (i.e. keywording, CV mapping, categories) offline. Than it will take no time to submit them once you're free to do so. 967

Alex,
as this case (again) has raised concerns with many contributors about the way their intellectual property is protected within the different partner programs of stock sites, I would have some suggestions how you could improve transparency for us.
That would be a great help for contributors and I believe you as agency can only benefit from such form of transparency. It would be good to hear if you will consider such changes in the future. Best Regards, Dirk 972
General Stock Discussion / Re: How does Shutterstock make money?« on: January 27, 2011, 04:47 »
Because the average subscriber will only download a fraction of his allowance any given month.
And as the Shutterstock subscription contains a daily (not a monthly) limit they can be sure that a lot of (corporate) subscribers will not use any of their quota on weekends and public holidays. 973

It shows the same (lower) prices when I am logged out. And not only for the TIFF, also for the medium size (never had a medium sale for 6 credits on a level one file before).
Maybe sales via partner sites? |
