weather update here on the Sunshine Coast: a perfect day, warm but a light breeze to remove the humidity. Surf still a little rough following last week's megastorm, so we just dropped in and out of the pool all day. One bottle of champagne down, about to open a Sem. xo

I'm now typing "Feb 2: showing support for my fellow artists"

I've done about 20 today, plus I've been randomly deleting files this past week. Zero uploading.

I'm bemused by the "We regret to inform you that image # has been deactivated from the iStockphoto database of Royalty Free Images".

Why do they need to inform me of something I did? Why not, "we're sorry to see you go" or something friendlier?

it's a very sad day.

It's been weeks and they haven't even been able to issue a coherent statement.

that's why I don't understand why everyone is thanking Lobo for saying... nothing at all.

I had been writing "you know why #feb2" and other clever things and simply pasting it in.  yesterday  by mistake I pasted in an email that I was sending to my cousins, an invitation up to our beach house this week end. I must have sent that email in between (and i'd cutnpaste some info over for another invite).

I was working so fast I pressed the Deactivate button. oops :D

The real oops would be if someone from iStock shows up this weekend :)

But aren't you in Australia? So that cuts down the likelihood of a visitor from Canada

in that case I'll make it an open invitation to all:

"Well the xmas season has come and gone and we didn't get a chance to catch up.

We are hoping to make our way back to the Sunshine Coast (and actually get some sunshine this time) this week end and would love you to join us.

I realise it's short notice but we've been watching the weather and, fingers crossed, it's looking ok.  Let me know if you can make it."

:D

i don't understand why people are saying thank you for that "update". there's no info in there at all (re: Google) and a small pacifier re; MS.

it's a trick.

I've been writing "you know why" but I'm thinking if we all used the same or similar it might have more impact?  anyone got any good #hashtags going?

I use a gray card in studio, but not often when on a shoot away. I've gone through 2 $15 gray cards in the last 3 years and I don't feel like wasting any more money on them, so I dont take them outdoors anymore.

I don't find it hard to fix WB in post, takes about 4 seconds. even if you make a custom WB you still probably will tweak it a few points either way. *shrug* each to their own.

Someone explained on here that there are still a lot of clueless people who have no idea how to resize for the web, who use e.g. Front Page, and just throw in a file at the top resolution they have and rely on the browser to resize it on the fly.
That's why often you might see your image 'in use' with a live link, and when you click on it, you get taken to the large size of the file, usually the actual size they bought it from the agency. So if they bought a large size for print, or indeed a large size from a sub site, they just use it on a web page as is.

"a lot", try most of them!! almost all my commercial clients are unable to resize images for web use, and I always supply them with a folder of high res images, marked 'for print' and a folder of 72ppi web images, all with the suffix_web. Doesn't stop them from uploading the giant files..

80% also recontact me to resize images for them, which is so very tiresome as I go to the trouble of supplying images in two formats for them.

I have a secret weapon: my sth african husband. His arrogance and clipped accent seems to works wonders against service providers. :) I should almost hire him out he's that good at getting discounts and concessions.

They are adding  1-9 now for me. So they do not add to all at the same time. I'm in 6.12 now.

looks like mine are all through and yes, they did add in 1-9 for me too. BME.

at least in Australia, a "scab" is also someone who never pays for anything and gets their friends to do the buying (shouting). Although it's an 80s term and I haven't heard it used in years.

there's also "scrubber" which is used here (and the UK I presume).

sorry Tom, to go OT.

I recall the term "scrub" from a song a few years ago, but is that US slang? I'm not even sure what it means, though I can guess it's not a compliment.

17th.

I also have nil for 1-9 December, but presuming there were nil sales for me?

I would wait a bit until they get to the end of the month before you decide. Nothing about this process is predictable or smooth running, so it is certainly possible that there is some group of contributors they skipped. The only other thing to note is that the sales in the early part of December are heavily weighted to Christmas images, so people with relatively few or no seasonal images hit a fallow patch for a while.

If you still have no sales for that stretch after others report that they're done for December, and you haven't had stretches of 0 sale days in the past, open a support ticket to ask about it. May not do any good, but it can't hurt. :)
thanks.
even though only 20ish, my aussie xmas images (uploaded early november) were selling strongly throughout december.

could be time for the other agencies to step in and join the fight against the Getty/Google deal. I'm not sure how or what they can do, but it's going to hurt them too. Once buyers hear about the Google scheme they'll all head over there to take their freebies. Even designers, who don't use Google drive, will still go and take files and stockpile them for later use.

I do apologise, I meant no attack. I was just frustrated. Sorry.

Wow, I didnt think that I'd ever see the day when someone apologized in a forum! I am very glad you did and I think it is really generous of you! Youll get a heart from me! :)

well being pulled up for bad manners is mortifying, so of course I should apologise.

:)
