Pond5 should be one of your first ports of call. There are certain varying reasons why some people avoid the following sites, but the top Tier on the right are the highest earners on the whole... Shutterstock, Adobe, iStock, Pond5... plus VideoBlocks.
But I think most people agree that Pond5 is one of the most popular. Set your own price, 50% commission, decent sales etc.

Can't be bothered to play it... but it does look very impressive. Nice graphical style.

Yeah I read through the licenses for every 3D model place I could find in 2014 and the only ones I could find that allow renders for stock were CG Trader and Daz 3D. There were a couple of other smaller ones, but they're not worth bothering with as the models and the range weren't very good. Turbosquid was the first place I checked and they didn't allow it, not sure if that changed at some point, but they don't currently.
Fotolia allow images to be used in derivative products for resale, if you get the extended license. Specifically lists one of the allowed uses as 'videos for resale' with no mention of that excluding stock footage for resale.

Yeah... Stock photos of scientists shared by scientists reveal that scientists don't like to pay to use stock photos of scientists.

Those should work fine. After nearly a year my total hard-rive usage (excluding assets, videos, images, music - as they're going to vary considerably by person, and you said you're going to store most of them on an external hard-rive anyway) comes to 145GB.
So that's my OS, all my programs and whatever else gets clogged up in the pipes over the years. And I have Ae, Pr, Ps, Ai, a bunch of other CC programs, Office, C4D etc.

Yeah, a lot of them seem quite detailed for icons that are usually going to be quite small in whatever medium they're used. The placement of the icons seems off in a lot of them as well... usually weighted toward the bottom of the circle... and there appears to be insufficient padding around the edges. Apart from, they're very good... but with thousands to choose from, a buyer only needs the tiniest reason not to buy something.

I'm 90% sure that I once read somewhere that a score of 100 meant that the average earnings from that site equates to $500 a month.

Depends what the job is. If you're applying for job as a photographer, or something related, then it's likely they'll know what a stock photographer is. If you're applying for a job as a dolphin wrangler, then they probably won't know what a stock photographer is... but they're also considerably less likely to check up on (or care about), the accuracy of your credits.

Wow... 200+ images... I only have like 20+ on SS and already made over $270. My ambitious goal is to get to 200. Looks like the most stock web sites are too small to bother.
How many have you got, and how much have you sold, on Storyblocks though?

Selling video under US$20 net per sale is just not a viable business model, even for a sole operator with relatively small overheads.
How many of these $20 sales are your calculations based on? Surely selling 2000 clips a month at $10 would be a viable business model? Viable business models (when it comes to stock), have to be based on three things... price, commission rate, number of sales. One of those alone doesn't really tell you anything. Pepsi sell their cans for $1 or thereabouts.. That's 20 times less than $20 and they have massive overheads... but they do ok.

Check out VideoHive...
Best selling stock footage item: 1,404 sales. Best selling motion graphics item: 3,804 sales. Best selling After Effects item: 12,639 sales.
...although each site will vary based on the contributor base, the customer base and a few other factors, but that should give you a rough idea of something.

Lol yeah... Okay. And your point?
The point is that, contrary to your opinions on that matter, it's not ok to use watermarked images. That was the whole point of the thread past the original post, so it's a very valid point! Yes, tracking down and dealing with such things might be more trouble than it's worth, I'll give you that... but pretty much everyone knew that already. The point of this thread was a general FYI that a site was using watermarked images. It wasn't an FYI that a site was using watermarked images and we should all plough all of our time, energy and resources into getting them to remove those images.

How do you mean?

c) Also - asfaik, they aren't "stolen" either. Pretty much every stock site lets you download preview/watermarked images/video/etc.
But that doesn't mean you can use them on a public websites. They should be used to review the content or in mockups for clients... not live websites.

Over the last year or so, I've come to the conclusion that ignoring everything unnonimus says when it comes to copyright... is a good rule to live by. The advice provided is more often wrong than it is right. At best, it's usually questionable.

Depends what youre selling... stock video, motion graphics or After Effects projects. For stock video, I think most people would agree Pond5 is the way to go. For motion graphics, I'd say a combination of Pond5 and Storyblocks. For After Effects projects, youll have trouble beating VideoHive, but you could always try Pond5, Storyblocks, Motion Array etc.

Sending him both should address any valid reasons he has for needing it. I.e. the clip with transparency and the clip with the grid but without transparency.
I mean, if he's using the clip in editing software the grid will be there anyway. If he's using the clip in some kind of player, then it won't... but he can't do anything with the transparent clip just in the player anyway.
The best way to sort it is to find out exactly why he needs that and address it accordingly... he probably doesn't need what he thinks he needs.

No. You can only export with solid colours. Not sure why you'd want to though? If it;s for preview videos and the like... you can easily create your own grid. Just create a solid that's light grey (25% black 75% white). On top of that, add a layer that's 100% white. Then to that white layer, add the checkerboard effect that you'll find in the generate effects menu. Alter the size of the squares as required and you're good to go. To save time the next time you do it, you can render out just the checkerboard and drag it behind your shot. There's no transparency, but you'll get the right look.
I was beaten to the post!

I'm also a little confused by the 50% minimum royalty and the intro here saying 75%? You need clear license terms for the artist and the buyers.
75% if you sign up now... 50% if you sign up after launch. So 'minimum of 50%' is just a slightly streamlined and quicker way of saying that. I guess saying 'a minimum of 50%' also gives them room to manoeuvre if things go well and they want to up the rate at some point in the future.

Just out of interest... do you ever contribute to this forum other than posting tutorials? I mean, do you engage in discussions about selling stock and the like, or is your sole purpose to get people to watch your videos? Just wondering.

I looked at the site's WHOIS entry and see that all registrant information is hidden through a proxy service.
REGISTRANT CONTACT Name:PROXY PROTECTION LLC Organization:PROXY PROTECTION LLC Street:417 ASSOCIATED RD #324 C/O FIVEDOLLARPHOTOS.COM City:BREA State:CA Postal Code:92821 Country:US Phone:+1.7147064182 Email:[email protected]
Also, there is no imprint on the site as far as I can see.
This is a BIG red flag.
Sending your valuable content to an anonymous party would be a completely silly thing to do.
Good luck.
Not a big deal for me, it's not exactly uncommon to hide your domain info.
