I have just cleaned my camera with with Sensorswap and Eclipse E2 solution from Photographic Solutions - I had three specks that just could be blown or shaken off the sensor (I have a D300, btw).

If you cant blow them off, i wont hesitate to recommend this approach - if youre careful to follow the (simple) guidelines, you really cant mess up. I had to do three passes, btw, tough little buggers :-)

That is true for the most part, but they don't upsize images that are above a certain megapixel size.  I'm not sure exactly what that limit is , but I believe that it is somewhere around 16 MP.

Ok, thanks, it makes sense. But I am a little shocked to see a 9.1 MP image of mine get supersized to 36 MP! It makes me wonder whats best, to submit a 16MP image (provided your camera outputs that, I dont mean homegrown upsizing) and thereby missing out on the 36 MP option or the other way around.

My two cents - hardly two cents, actually - on this is that I like Lightrooms noise reduction: I know some people complain about it being too conservative (as in not enough) but since I only shoot low iso's (or dont care anyway if its high iso!), i think the luminance noise cleans up really neatly.

I too agree that the first two should have been accepted. As for the last one, I think the strawberries will have to go, especially if theyre any other color than red as here (Im thinking you played with the colors here), as they mess up the composition: what are you supposed to look at, the strawberries or the ink?

That said, I too agree that fotolias rejection reasons are bad - in fact, the worst ive seen. But at the end of the day, its their privilege to reject and its not their job to teach us how to be better photographers. Their rejections are either unhelpful or meaningless but I cant really blame them - its their site, not ours. I think - and I suppose its only natural - that we tend to focus on yourselves and the buyers and that whole relationship, and forget about the "middle man" or the distributor.

Just had a bunch rejected with the "Type of photograph" rejection. I have to say I disagree rather a lot with them! It seems like the reviewer hits that "Type of photograph" button when he/she just doesnt feel like it today....

Btw...whats peoples experience with resubmitting? I did it once and had the image accepted - I had actually forgotten it had been rejected and only saw that it was "missing" from my portfolio, so to say.

A newbie reviewer....you can train them as much as you want, theres still no telling whats gonna happen when they are turned loose on the queue!

Supposedly, the Lo-settings are paid for in decreased dynamic range. I avoid it and only use iso200 as lowest setting: what noise I find is either from incorrect exposure or because I have turned NR completely off in camera - I dont really know if I should, but I like to see all noise disappear at the slide of a slider!

For me, this the first day, 27 sales from a portfolio of 10 so far (I guess the day is soon over). One topseller but all bar one has sold at least once. Im very happy with it, sure beats the 1 download in 6 months I have at iStock!

Ill of course be interested to see when sales start dropping off. One thing Im wondering in that connection: as I understand, older pics will stop selling relatively fast - but will new uploads help the old ones a bit (e.g., by buyers having a look at your portfolio) or are they basically dead in the water?

I agree that thats certainly coming but not now. The D80 came out about a year after the D200 and I suppose the same timeframe is logical for the D300 and D90. It does seem to be the smart business decision but who knows. I myself am getting the D300.

Theres also the question of Nikons production capability: the factories at Sendai and in Thailand is supposedly maxed out at the moment (I believe its something like 12.000 D3's and 60.000 D300's per month, respectively).

By the way, thats also why we're probably not going see another FX soon: the demand for the D3 is far from being met and theres really nowhere for a new FX to be produced. Besides, FX sensors are expensive to make.

EDIT: I just found Thom Hogans predictions for 2008, I'll quote them here for what theyre worth:

Not in 2008; 2009 at the earliest. First off, Nikon won't be able to make D3/D3x sensors fast enough, so adding another FX sensor to the mix is likely not in the cards for 2008.
Question for next year: 12mp or 18mp? Given the D3's success, I'm now saying 12mp. I'd be happy with that.

I believe it's the D80 that is due for replacement. It's not competitive against the 40D or K20D anymore. The new one will most likely have the D300 sensor and viewfinder, but in a plastic body like the D80.

The rumors does speak pretty strongly for a D40X replacement as Nazdravie says. And just as the argument against a 'FX D300' - it would effectively be a D3 - so I think the model you mention would be too close to a D300, eating into sales while its selling like mad at the moment. Nikon should know better than compete against itself - but, we'll see in a weeks time
