By the way, the sale that I made $1000 on at SS in 2020 involved a take down from other sites request but I kept the Copyright.  And it was exclusive for only one year.

The $500 sale in 2021 did not require a take down from other sites.

Agreed.  Cannot predict what the high earners are.

And now with SS rejecting so many files, which are accepted by other sites simply do not know what their game plan is.

Just so people will know that I am not blowing smoke, this is the file I made $510 this year from SS.

If you could tell me where you are selling to make $50,000 a year.  We would all like to know.

Look at other work with your camera.

Talked to one photographer a while ago and he marketed to law firms at his small studio.  Did head shots of all the new lawyers.

Get into web design that might work.

I have already retired.  So good luck in your search.  It is never easy.  So keep on fighting.

Agree with you David.

Think it is better to hang in there.

No one said you can make a living at stock.

But a $1,000 sale for one photo ain't bad.

Make your bread somewhere else, but in retirement not a bad gig.

Through stock some of my photos have shown up in National Geographic publications.

So get out if you want to make a living .  As one senior person in Stock told me about people leaving SS because of the cut in commissions "good".  Less competition.  By the way, she is not working at SS.

This is simple market reality.

No exclusives at SS.

Also believe going exclusive is the wrong move.  Gives to much power to the site.  Put your photos up on a number of sites and you will do better.

The only protection a stock photographer has is the number of sites he is on.

Stock is a bulk business so more you put up more money you will make.

Yep.  When SS dropped their commissions on subscriptions to 10 cents was pretty discouraged.  Talked to a friend with a lot of years in stock because there was a movement to leave SS.  She told me what can you do and as to movement of photographers leaving SS, she said "good". Less competition.

And then I started getting higher single sales.  So better to hang in there.

Last year.  Had one for $500 plus this year.

SS Premium is where I made the $1,000 sale, but they asked for take down notices on other sites, which I gave them.

Always problems and when SS dramatically dropped commissions on subscriptions did not help.

But it is what it is.

Was he exclusive then and sold all the rights of the photo to the client? (if that's possible with SS anyway).

Otherwise, I can't imagine, on any subscription, the client would pay that amount. 75 USD is possible under extended license but then you as a contributor get a small portion of that. So that's why I asked :)

I had customers paying as much as $300 for a single photo without any exclusive rights. (And the photo was not even anything special). Admittedly this high amount was a one-time occurance, but sales where the customers pay at least over 100$ for a single photo happen somewhat regularly. Not as often as I would like (obviously), but it's not that rare. For people with high quality photos and much bigger ports than I have that's probably a regular occurance.
I had one sale last year on SS for $1,000 and one sale this year for over $600.  Helps make up for the sharp decline in other commissions.

Me too.  Cannot get in.

Last year On Shutterstock premium I received $1,000 for one sale and it was not lifetime.  SS sold it for more so that gives you a real idea.
#22
Me too.  Today was the problem.

Uploading seems to not be working at Fine Art America

All I know was when some were complaining about low earnings, Gagne said you need more and then said how about 75,000.  I suspect she has a lot up somewhere.
#25
I am not sure if she is still exclusive.  She may be on multiple sites.
