Thanks very much for the tips Wordplanet! Thank you, she's my daughter. Going through the thousands of photos I've taken of my kids over the past 6 years and discovering that I have about two that could possibly be submitted for stock!

Thanks Jo. Yes, SS did also reject it for lighting! Appreciate your comment.

Thanks Me. OK, could be the T-shirt too! Hmm, lots to think about in future...

Not sure whether I should leave it on the other site though..?

Newbie Discussion / Not sure about this trademark issue
« on: July 10, 2014, 03:21 »
Hi all,

I've just had an image accepted at one agency which has been declined by another. One of the reasons they gave was 'Image potentially infringes on intellectual property rights.' I think this refers to a smiley face on a child's spade.

I'm not sure what to do with regard to the site that accepted it though. I didn't consider it to be a logo or trademark but maybe it is! Do I leave it on the other site??

Thanks for any advice,
Vic

Lots of interesting stories here. As for myself, I only took the plunge into stock last week. It's something I often thought about but didn't think I was good enough. However, I love a challenge and love to learn new things and like you, want to become good at something.

MS fits in well at the moment. I'm a primary school teacher but mostly stay at home with my two children right now. For the last 6 years I've been trying to sell photos, art and craft online and in a couple of shops. It's been a huge learning curve and not been easy. I'm starting an MSc in psychology in 3 months and would love to make some money to pay even a little bit of the costs! I think it may take a while though...

Am really enjoying learning about MS and it's great I can do it home. Macro is what I particularly enjoy.

Good luck,
Vic

Hi there,

Thanks for posting this! I just uploaded my first ever MS images to BigStock today. I've been taking photos for many years but have quickly realised that 99.9% of these are no good for MS sites. The 10 I uploaded today are a mixture of old photos and new ones shot specifically for MS. I think every photo I submit to a site in future will be new.

I've spent the last week looking closely at what makes a good MS image. It's actually been really interesting; I love the idea of having to create a unique image for an old concept. I'm looking around my house thinking up all sorts of ideas!

There's lots of technical aspects that I need to learn about but it's all good experience.

Thanks to everyone else as well for all the tips :)

Good luck,
Vic

Newbie Discussion / Re: Downsizing Photos

Thanks for your reply. I've just been uploading and I did have to downsize one, which was a huge huge file!

Ah, right, thank you! Yes, I was looking at the open file size! I was getting muddled up with another site which I needed to look at the uncompressed size for.

Thanks again.

Hi everyone,

I've just discovered this site and hope someone will be able to help me! I've been looking through the posts and I have a feeling I'm going to be here a lot :)

I want to upload some images to BigStockPhoto but the requirement is 25Mb or less. One particular image I'm trying to reduce is 34.8M, 4272 x 2848 pixels and 72dpi. I'd like to keep the pixel size as they say 4000 pixels sells more, although they accept 800. How do I reduce the file size? And am I able to increase the dpi?

Sorry if these are really basic questions! While I'm not new to photography, I've never really needed to know much about file types and so on.

Thanks for any help,
Vic
