The poor and other causes were forgotten. Now it's the idiology of gender, races and that sort of thing. Excuse me but I am 48 years old and I do not adapt to these times, maybe I could be very old. It is something that is fashionable and many companies are doing it. It is to keep up with the times, very cool and fashionable! Todo lo progre esta de moda.  :)

Sorry to hear how bad things are Alexander, it sounds pretty much like South Africa where i live. It's very difficult to take out a camera in public for me, which limits one so much cos there's so many important stories to capture.

I'm currently making more from POD than from microstock.

Any good POD sites to recommend in particular?

MS generates a decent income for me, but nothing to write home about. It helps to buy some kick ass new camera gear every year and pay some bills. I'm a hobbyist-level stock photographer (portfolio size is currently under 3,000 photos).
Buy a new camera with microstock income for me, that impossible. My newer camera is a Canon 60D, the other a Canon XT.  And i'm ok with those old cameras, because if i try to do some photos in the street some  thief is probably would  robbed to me. In some places police could take my camera and take it. In Caracas, Venezuela people with cameras  have to be very alert, or go in big groups. When i go to street i use Canon XT. In my house for making some studio photos i use Canon 60D.

Between the declining income and the fact that micro sites have lowered submission quality standards, I don't think it's worth upgrading. Anyone who has a DSLR from the past 15 years should be fine.

That's unfortunate you have to work in fear. I travel for photography and have run into these situations here in the USA. Mostly in major cities in areas that are known for higher crime. And with all of the 2020 problems I now carry pepper spray and a heavy monopod. I'm now focusing more on beaches than cities. Usually more happy people there who don't want to rob or harm me. :-)

If you do want to get a new camera you may want to consider small mirrorless like a Sony a6600. DSLR quality images and the body and lenses are very compact. When walking with a DSLR and large backpack, I've found it draws a lot of attention. When using my Sony a6300 I can use a tiny bag and it draws almost no attention.

Caracas, is the capital of Venezuela, is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Here we have a lot of crime, robberies, murders and all kind of crime you could think. I don't know much about the USA, but my brother live in Houston Texas and there according that told me, it's a quite, the county where he lives.
When i go to the downtown where some risk zones, i use a point and shot camera, Canon Power Shot A810, it's a $50 camera you can find used for sell on ebay. Sometimes police and militar forces when they look at you with a camera, they ask you what you are doing, and if you are lucky the don't take you your camera, this situation happened to me in 2012, i was taking some photos alone and two polices in a motorcicle ask me what i was doing, and have to show my camera (Canon XT), they look and go. Now i use my Canon XT in the street but in safe zones. Maybe i'm a very affortunate person, because i can eat three meals times a day, and can pay for medicines. But a lot of people here can't. I have some money help from my brother, also i sell things on Internet, photography accessories, cheap things like, lens hoods, filters and lens caps, and some old lens i don't use, and anothers things. Also i have some sporadics jobs. Well, this the third world :)
Here i let you a link, where you can see Caracas as the second most dangerous city in the world.

I don't know much about South Africa, but life here in Venezuela is very difficult.

D*mn buddy, that's a tough place to live and do business. You are almost like a war photographer, the danger is always present and you need to be careful at all times when leaving your home. Keep up the good spirit and I hope you get some great images that sell well on stock sites!

Thanks, I hope so! I am very lucky, I live in a safe medium area, the thefts and murders are not high for this area. I think it is one of the safest areas in Caracas.
Well, you have to have good luck. It's a matter of not being in the wrong place and time. The chances of something happening to you are high, especially if you have a very attractive camera. The Canon XT even as old as it is can be striking. Here in Venezuela, journalists are persecuted a lot, and anyone they see with a camera thinks they are one, at least the security agents and paramilitary groups. And well, thieves are always looking for an opportunity to rob someone. Many cell phones are stolen here. Those crime statistics are true. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. That's really sad.

Yes, it is a very unfortunate situation, however despite everything, with my old Canon XT camera, I have taken very nice photos, which have been sold. But you know it is very few prices in microstock. :)

I'm down to 3 agencies, pond5 adobe and dissolve. Earnings last December for my 1500 clip portfolio were over 1k usd. This year I barely cracked 300. I'm getting fewer sales no matter how much I add (quality clips). If you thought 2020 sucked just wait....
Woow that's a lot of money considering microstock nowadays. Your work must be outstanding! I only have still images, photos, renders and vectors. I barely made less than $60 last month (december). I have my work in five microstock sites, around 3000 images in each one. Maybe my work is a crap. :'(

A friend of mine, also a photographer, contacted Getty/iStock and asked them about promo.com. He got an answer, me not yet.

Here a part of the answer from Getty/iStock:

#Your content is not being used for free.

Your Connect statement will provide the royalty information.#

Followed from two links. I read them carefully and understand now much more about it, but there was no example of promo.com. So I only can get an IDEA what we might get. But at least not for free, but might be for 0,0000000001 penny for each use.

And Getty/iStock wrote:

# Our contract with Promo.com is confidential.

We have not been receiving any other tickets from other Contributors regarding this same matter. #

no comment.
Oh my god! this the reason because our sales ar downhill! Getty/iStock hijos de puta! Me perdonan la grosera, pero es demasiado el abuso de esta gente!

I like them.

Uploading is easy, pay is decent, image security is good.

I also like how the galleries look.

You will have to do promotion of your own to get good sales, though.  Their SEO is a little weak.

Here's what one of my ArtPal shops looks like.

Thank you! Very nice gallery!

Can those of Istock / Getty Images give our content for free without paying us anything for it? This is not called theft?

@Uncle Pete Why didn't you continue the count down?

Well, so the british, the german and the dutch call us "non white" or "spaniard white"   ;D It's like a joke. I really like to be black, I love the Blues.

I think that the same thing is happening here and in the rest of western countries, not just in the USA and, in the USA, not just in one side. There is hate speech everywhere and polarized societies in all countries. Politicians and media are crap everywhere, not just in one side. Have to think that most of Trump voters read several newspapers and watch several tv channels too. At least in the same proportion that Biden voters.

In Europe It's really hard to read a newspaper. Some media like The Guardian just invent the news, I have read fake news about Spain. And in Spain all newspapers and tv channels are garbage. All of them, pure s.

So, we have the same problems. We are lucky because we have a bigger structure over the countries with strong rules in some issues, but without the EU Europe would become a jungle. But we have some kind of stability that is our biggest richness. We are going to see soon our strongness together with the british chaos.

Maybe in America people have to find a way to fight for a better life beyond the two parties. Poverty is a domination mechanism in both capitalist and communist countries.

Completely agree with you! I live in a socialist country and a lot of people are eating crap, despite the false promises of socialism about equality and better quality of life. :(

Hello,
I am a vector illustrator. I have 1610 vector illustrations on SS. But I decided to upload my vectors to other stock web sites.

However, it takes considerable amount of time to upload all those vectors to other sites, so I want to know which sites are worthwhile of uploading.

Which sites are efficient with vector images sales? Please feel free to mention not worthy sites as well, if you know any.
Thanks.
Vectorstock.com, do you know it?

We're you joking? Site with 23M vectors and they promote their 703,986 Free Vectors. Not like a free video or a free image, but 703,986 free vectors?

Ranked below Panther which, hey is Panther still in business? What's a .3 rank? Oh about $2 a month.

Worthy site would be Adobe Stock.
Sorry i only knew that website it's dedicated to sell vectors, but didn't know it was too bad. :(

In my country Venezuela, we have a saying, it says "Sarna con gusto no pica, y si pica no mortifica!"

# If i close my account on Getty/Istock the images on Promo.com will be remove? #

Thats the point!
Before I close my account on iStock, I have to know it!
If not - what to do? Luckily I didnt submit my best work to iStock.
But 32 images as Partner (Getty) photos via eyeEm are for free on Promo.com, too. I asked eyeEm already to take them from Getty & eyeEm market.
But also in that case, I do not know, if these 32 photos will get delete on Promo.com too.

First I did not think it has something to do with this, but now:
I just found out that i had 10 sales on iStock - ALL for 0,02. (With filename and dates and thumbs. They were sold in October.
And ONE SALE for 0,000000000 and 0% Even no filename.

But I did not get any information from iStock about that. Not on the app not in ESP, but I found them on Deepmeta.

Strange!
Might be these images got sold on Promo.com and at least paid??? Could be also just sub-sales as described on Deepmeta.

Shutterstock footage: I just two weeks ago deleted my only one footage on Shitterstock. I cannot find it on Promo.com. Seems like they deleted it on Promo.com too or it was never selected for Promo.com.
But in Getty/Istock you can't delete photos. They have all control on material.

21
ALL either >:(

But I couldnt find any of my Shitterstock portfolio.
Can I do it the same way: portfolio name+keyword like Bali?
This work for images only (not for footages). For me, all images from PROMO.com are coming frim iStock and all footages from Shutterstock.

We contacted Promo.com already, but does anybody already contact Getty/iStock/Shitterstock about this? And what were their answers - also in case of a law suit? Any terms again that allows them to do it and we didnt read or didnt understand about the consequences for us?

I sent a request to iStock to remove my images from PROMO.com. I guess it will take some time to get an answer; and I am not sure to get a positive response. We would have more strength if every contributor send such a request to iStock.
I also posted a message on iStock forum.

About SS, I only saw my footages on PROMO.com (all images come from iStock). And I understand we get some (very) small commissions from SS, for sales on PROMO.com. This is probably an explanation to the $1 commissions I receive from time to time on SS. So I guess all this is legal for footages. This is why I stopped publishing footages on SS (I am now Pond5 exclusive for my new footages). I will probably remove my footage from SS in the future to avoid this.

If i close my account on Getty/Istock the images on Promo.com will be remove?

22
I also found this site selling artist artworks (mine images as example) without permission
https://www.thezoombackgrounds.com/collections/background-videos-for-zoom

Please take a look and maybe your videos/images are there

How were you able to see / search for them?
Any link?

Hello fellow stockers,

I found a website called Promo.com that is selling footage from ShutterStock and iStock at extremely low prices and is so badly watermarking the content that you can practically download the videos in full quality without paying anything. I searched it and found most of my content there, I believe this concerns all of you and probably your footage is there as well.

Recently I was able to find a lot of my content in various online ads, even TV commercials, that were missing from the sales reports. Luckily I was able to get in contact with one marketing agency and gather more info about where they got my content from and that;s how I found out about this website. All of the clips they purchased from this site were never reported in any sales reports on SS or iStock.

Another big issue is how they are watermarking the content, as you can see in the attachment below you only have 1 stripe in the upper left corner of the video which makes our videos usable in full resolution for most of Instagram ads and similar content in 4:5 aspect ratio for free.

Reading the About section of the website I found info that they are partners with ShutterStock and Getty Images.

Can someone please tell me is there something we can do about this?

Thanks in advance

Well, another robbery from scam companies. I also saw some of my images there and I see why they are no longer sold almost in other places. All this is very frustrating. >:( :(
