Nice surprise! Thank you.

Thanks for the update Mat. Has anything changed for contributors, or was it behind the scenes stuff?

Yeah Jo Ann, it's happening for my sales. I didn't think to go to Fotolia as a back-up, I'll try that.

Good to know Sean, hopefully they work it out soon.

For about a month now, when I go to look at my latest downloads, it shows "Invalid Date" for the purchase date. Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks Shelma1, here are the royalty rates:

https://stockafe.com/appendix-a/

I find it sad that "Why bother?" seems to be my most asked question in stock. It's disappointing to constantly be underwhelmed by new offerings.

1- scottdunlap, where u r located ?
2 - i like 2 c some of the members' portfolios but cannot seem to do that.

I'm not affiliated with the site in any way, just came across it and thought I'd share.

Not sure what that test would be, but there's no information on the site at all about price, license, terms or anything else. If and when they make all of the nuts and bolts information available, I'll have a read.

There's a little bit of additional info if you click on community, and then look at tutorials and forum, but not much.

Saw an ad for a new site coming soon:

https://stockafe.com/coming-soon

They are saying all the right things and it looks promising. And they have a budget, advertising on the Deck Network isn't cheap. Anyone have any info about royalty rates?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: They REALLY hate exclusives
« on: March 17, 2014, 09:04 »
But why would iStock create a new landing page saying
"Explore millions of stock photos, vectors, videos and music clips you cant get from the other guys"
if they wanted or expected exclusives to leave?

It's like when drinks state "contains natural flavors," even if that amount is tiny. It's a selling point. iStock wants to have their cake and eat it too.

Stock Performer has up to date info. Funny (not really) that an outside group can get things right. I believe they offer a free trial, you could use it in the meantime to get your stats.

Anyone know if it's only photos? Or will there also be illustration, video, etc.

The decline stalled for me in October but has returned with a vengance this month.  Holy smokes.

Feeling your pain brother! Started for me in September, but this month is really *.

My advice would be if you are going to drop exclusivity next year now is the time to start planning. eg. which sites you plan on submitting to, upload processes, is it possible to start uploading now, what prices will you set your files at etc. If i were you i would also have a bit of buffer money in the bank to help ease the change over.

Most importantly, start (re)keywording your images in the IPTC with an eye toward how keywording works on other sites.  For example you will need synonyms and plurals added, which isn't necessary with the Istock CV.

Good suggestions. Luckily I only have 400 files, so it shouldn't be too painful. I'll probably poke around other sites, but I'm going to give it some time. For the last 5 years, this one included, iStock has been surprisingly consistent for me. My yearly totals don't fluctuate more than 10% or so. It's what happens in-between that's maddening! And I know that happens, but like I said, this one is bigger than usual. Fingers crossed it rebounds shortly.

I'm seeing a big drop also. Sept, Oct and Nov are way down. This month I am on track to make 1/2 of what I did last November (!)

I've seen ups and downs over the last 5 years, but not like this. Luckily I've socked away money knowing this might happen. I'm not going to stress with the holidays coming up, but will wait to see if there's the usual rebound early next year. If not, I will consider dropping exclusivity.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is your September down?
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:45 »
I am also way down. At this rate, I'd guess I'll make about 2/3 what a normal September would bring.

Wow, that's pretty blatant.
I like IStock's "abusive inspiration" policy.
"It may not be illegal but we don't like to see other artists work being cannibalized" is a good attitude in a stock agency, as long as it is fairly applied.

Is it?
I've never heard anyone complain about having images deleted unfairly under the policy. Plus their house their rules.

I try not to play the abusive inspiration card unless it's blatant. But there have been a few times it was really obvious and iStock has quickly removed the copy-cat work. I'm happy the policy is in place.

I wasn't calling you selfish Lisa. You're anything but. It just seemed from your original post you didn't get their explanation. Wasn't passing judgement, I haven't visited the site lately and I didn't even realize you were anonymous.

Oh, sorry Scott.  Although I was replying to your post, I never did think you were saying the anonymous folks were selfish.  You were just helpfully clarifying the policy.

I should have been clearer that it was the facebook post of the owners that I was offended by.  Sort of the tone that anonymous people weren't pulling their weight.

I felt it was important to point out the legitimate reasons for anonymity, along with the fact that our stats are still available for comparison, just without names.

OK, good to hear. And I know first-hand about "inspiring" people, so I definitely get the reason for anonymity!

Well Christian, you have certainly livened up this thread and kept us all entertained :D

- If he were to mail a letter without postage, it would still get there.

are these yours or did you borrow them? they are brilliant. I love your post

I wish I could take credit. As retrorocket said, it's an on-going and brilliant advertising campaign by Dos Equis beer. I thought it was world-wide, but maybe it's focused here in the states.

Just wait for it ;). That being said, I'd like for this threads to turn for the better.

OK then, I'll do my part. I don't normally post numbers, but I had by far my best Feb every. Up 44% from last year.

I read that to mean that anonymous contributors were benefitting by seeing the numbers of people that kept their usernames public, but not returning the favor.

Yes, I read it the same way.  I am one of those that was anonymous, but did check in to see what was going on occasionally.  I don't see that as selfish or "not returning the favor".

Did you see the time I posted that, and posted 'so far'.  ;)

Ooops.  I missed that part :)

And things went more or less downhill from that point forward ;) . The pattern is always the same, first page consist of mostly positive reports, then we see a mixture of reports, but usually most of them report falling sales

Really? I'm seeing more positive than negative, even on the last page. Maybe I have my rose-colored glasses on?
