Alamy.com / Alamy distributor commision
« on: December 19, 2014, 16:05 »
Alamy way of calculation commission is realty creative  >:(

When they sell through distributor,
distributor gets 40% and Alamy 30%, so you left with 30%.

In usual distribution business of normal goods you usually get % of whatever money you delivered to next entity in the food chain, not form end price.

They really should charge 30% not from original price, but from whatever was left after distributor got paid.
so in more fair world it should be 40%*30% = 12% of original price and our cut should be 100%- 40%-12% = 48%.
almost 1.5 times higher

General Stock Discussion / shutterpoint is infected

iStockPhoto.com / Partner program sales list
« on: May 24, 2012, 16:08 »
for a while I'm pressing Istock to provide us with reports of what files were sold through Thinkstock and Photos on monthly basis.
Currently they only provide lifetime stats.
So dynamic of what they sale is pretty much concealed.

They are playing games trying to persuade me that this information is already available (since I can go and see it for each particular image).
Obviously that's completely impractical to go through thousand of images of portfolio and do it.

I encourage everyone who cares about this, send messages to support and bombard them with this requests regularly, week after week.

General Stock Discussion / Ellen Boughn - quit reasons
« on: October 18, 2011, 09:06 »

"I was writing for a difficult client who subjected my writing to a panel of editors that squeezed the personality out of my words and with it all joy in writing.  I realized after reading Colleens post that every week I continued to write for that client, I was further damaging the confidence I needed to continue to do my all important personal work.  I quit the job the day after reading her post."

Featurepics.com / 1 year lock time.
« on: May 23, 2011, 18:12 »
For people who didn't notice,
according to TOS

For images uploaded after '04/15/2011': Once an Image is uploaded, FeaturePics can sell licenses for 360 days. The Image may not be withdrawn during this period.

I don't sell there that much to justify 1 year lock.

General Stock Discussion / Dangerous support
« on: January 12, 2011, 18:10 »
Last week I got several rejections from one site (I don't want to mention which one)

I'm sending message to support, saying that theyve accepted several images of this type from me in the past and they are selling really-really well.
Also I've sent examples of similar images from other people ports.

Response was brutal. -
Basically: We reviewed your examples and decided to remove them from the site as well.

I've checked examples from other people ports are also removed.

I've learned my lesson. Never ever again I'm going to appeal.
And I want to apologize to photographers whose images were removed because of this.

iStockPhoto.com / Jan stats.
« on: February 01, 2010, 20:32 »
Jan stats.

Jan stats thread on IS shows overwhelmingly earnings increase among exclusives
Several non-exclusives who responded there mostly reporting earnings decrease. Although most of the independents reporting there have really tiny portfolios and under 2500 downloads. So Im not sure how representative it is.
Mine states are even lower then in December.
