Veer / Veer Personnel Update
« on: December 15, 2011, 17:58 »
Hi everyone,

A few months ago, some of you noticed that Corbis, based in Seattle, announced the decision to close its Calgary office location at the end of 2011. Although the closure doesnt affect Corbis or Veer contributors or customers, it does mean that Ill be leaving the company.

However, Im pleased to announce that a familiar face will be back to lead the Veer charge into 2012: Brian OShea is resuming responsibilities as Manager of Veer Creative Content, in addition to continuing his involvement with the macro side of the business. Those of you who remember Brian know theres no one better suited to this task as he has an in-depth knowledge of the industry and has exhibited a tireless commitment to representing contributor interests. I'm confident youre in great hands with Brian driving the Veer vision forward. Hell be stopping by to say hello shortly, so you can all get reacquainted.

Ive very much enjoyed the opportunity to be able to participate in the conversations here, and hope youll continue to engage my colleagues with the same energy and passion Ive witnessed on this forum over the past few years. The thoughtful ideas and feedback you present only help make the brand better, and Ill still be rooting Veer on from the sidelines while navigating new adventures.

I thank you all for sharing your creativity, and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Cheers,

Chelsey

Veer / New Public Profile Pages for Veer Contributors
« on: July 08, 2011, 18:43 »
Hi all,

Last week we announced some changes coming to the veer.com Ideas section this summer. As a contributor, the biggest changes youll notice are to the Portfolios and Groups features of Ideas. Both of these features will be retired and removed from the site on July 8th, 2011.  However, were looking forward to providing you with even better tools to promote your work, and get news and updates from your Contributor Team.  Today, were excited to start by rolling out new and improved Public Profile pages just for contributors, to replace the old Ideas Member pages.

Your Public Profile will act as your personalized Veer homepage to present and promote your workits your starting point to update and manage your content, and you can use it to highlight and show off your best images to buyers using curated Albums. Heres how it works:

Getting started
Click on your name (top right of all veer.com pages, as usual) to navigate to your Public Profile page in your Account. This is where you can manage both your private contentWorkspace, Dashboard, and Payment settingsand the content displayed on your Public Profile page. Weve put everything in one place in your Account to keep things simple.

Customize your page
Let customers and contributors get to know you. In the right-hand side-bar, you can upload an avatar, write a short bio, create an alias, provide contact information, and display links to your personal website, Facebook page, and Twitter stream. All of these fields are optionalshare as much or as little information as you like.

Show off your work on veer.com
You know your work best, and now you get to choose which of your images are promoted on your Public Profile page. Present them so they shine, through your curated Albums on your page. Create Albums according to theme, shoot, season, conceptits all up to you. As a contributor, when you create an Album, youll have the option to display it on your Public Profile, or keep it private. Albums you choose to display will appear to customers on your public page. Old Albums will default to private, while any new Albums you create will default to public. Click Manage your albums to change visibility settings.

Promote yourself and your work
Promote your images beyond veer.com by posting your public profile URL (veer.com/artist/youralias) on your website, social networks, and in e-mails. The more people see your Veer profile and download your images, the more we can help you earn royalties.  The public link to your page lives just above your avatar, and below the Workspace, Dashboard, and Payment settings navigation.  People will see your personalized information, the Albums youve chosen to feature, and a selection of thumbnails from the rest of your portfolio. Buyers can also navigate to your profile from the Product Detail page that opens when they enlarge a thumbnail theyve found while searching veer.com. Here's an example of what your page will look like: http://www.veer.com/artist/chromatica.

We hope youll be as excited about your new Public Profile page as we are. The ability to present buyers with customized Albums of your work is something youve been asking for, and were happy to be able to give you a tool to help you market your images better.

Whats happening to Groups?
As we noted at the top of this message, the Groups section of Ideas is going away as part of the Ideas makeover. Were currently working on an improved platform to present you with contributor news and information directly through veer.com, though its not quite ready for release yet. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue to provide feedback and stay engaged with our Contributor Team through Facebook, Twitter, and [email protected]. The existing links to Groups discussions will also remain active for a time for reference, while we take inventory and find new homes for important information.

As always, we look forward to your feedback and questions. Thanks for your continued support!

Sincerely,

The Veer Contributor Team

Veer / VeerContributor is live on Facebook
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:25 »
Hi everyone,

You may already be part of the Veer community on Facebook. We're pleased to announced that we've recently added a new page devoted to contributors at http://facebook.com/VeerContributor.

We've already uploaded all of Shawn's video tutorials so they're easily accessible in one place. In the coming weeks and months, we'll be bringing you more information about creative trends, popular searches, new tutorials, and other resources to help you improve your work.

We'd also love to hear from you! We've included a discussion forum, and are kicking off the conversation by asking for your feedback about Member pages. We've got some changes coming to veer.com this year, and want to know what you'd like to see. (Do feel free to post those ideas here as well--we certainly plan to stay active on MSG, since this is such a great forum for interaction!)

We hope this will be a great additional way for you to connect with us, have access to new resources, learn, share, and provide feedback.

Enjoy!

Chelsey

Veer / Veer Reseller API
« on: February 11, 2011, 19:55 »
Hi everyone,

Were excited to announce a new opportunity for Veer and our contributors that creates more visibility and sales for Veers microstock images around the world, via the new Veer Reseller API.

For years, Veer has had an established network of trusted localized resellers that market and sell our macrostock images in areas we dont sell to directly. Now weve created an API that allows us to offer Veers microstock images to our global network of resellers who want to provide lower-priced content to their customers. The API allows our resellers to easily integrate Veer microstock images into their localized websites.

The royalties youll earn for sales of your images in the Veer Reseller API are exactly the same as if youd sold the image on Veer.com (see our current rate card here: http://contributor.veer.com/images/pdf/Veer_Contributor_Rate%20Card_%28020111%29.pdf). Its just like selling your image on Veer, except that the sale happened on a reseller website.

The first partner in our reseller network use the API is http://photogenica.pl/, based in Poland. Were currently exploring opportunities with our other partners, and will notify you about other partners to adopt the API in the future.

Based on our current technology, there is no opt-out feature. However, as the royalties you earn via the Veer Reseller API are exactly the same as selling your images on Veer.com, and as our reseller network increases visibility and sales opportunities for your images, this program is a great benefit to contributors.

We do apologize for not providing more advance notice that wed be implementing this program. The timing wasnt coordinated accurately on our end, and we feel bad that this caught many of you by surprise. I hope our track record with regards to communicating updates to you speaks to the fact this isnt something we make a habit of. :)

As always, questions, feedback, and discussion are welcome.

Cheers,

Chelsey

Veer / Credit Pack Price Changes
« on: February 08, 2011, 19:36 »
Hi all,

Following on the successful re-launch of Veer last July, weve had some time to review the performance of our credit pack sizes and pricing.  Based on our positive growth and demand for higher volumes of credits, weve decided to make a few changes to our credit pack sizes and pricing as we continue to ramp-up our business in 2011.  Wed like to share the changes with you and what it means for contributor royalties.

Introduction of two new large credit packs

Veers larger customers have expressed a desire to purchase images in higher volumes, which is great for Veer and our contributors as well see even more downloads this year.  In response to this demand, we have added two new large credit packs of 6,000 and 12,000 credits.

These large packs have our lowest price per credit to date, of $0.82 and $0.78.  Previously the lowest price per credit was $0.88 for the 2000 credit pack.  Now, with the lowest price per credit at $0.78, it means the largest potential share of royalties is increasing from 40% up to 45%.

Price increase for eight USD/CAD credit packs (GBP/EUR excluded)

With increased customer demand for credits, weve also decided to increase the price of some mid-sized credit packs in US and Canadian dollars only.  This increase is between 1% and 14%.  See the table below for the breakdown.

Contributor Royalties

For simplicity and transparency, Veer pays contributor royalties at $0.35 per credit regardless of the size of credit pack purchased by the customer.  With the pricing changes to our credit packs, contributors still earn the same royalty per image.  For example, just as before, if a customer downloads a Large image for ten credits the contributor gets $3.50.

Because royalties are currently set at $0.35 per credit and because the credit pack prices have changed, this means the contributor percentage share of the price per credit has changed as well in some instances.  For some credit packs, there is no change. For others, the contributor share goes down between 0.2% and 5%, while for the new 6,000 and 12,000 credit packs, the percentage share increases between 3% and 5% above the previously largest pack of 2000 credits.

Since there are similar sized increases and decreases to royalty rates as a result of these changes, the overall royalty rate for most contributors will be largely unchanged.  As such, we are maintaining the contributor royalty per credit at $0.35 for this credit pack price change.  If there are future credit pack price changes, we will review the contributor royalty per credit, as we have done in this case, and make adjustments based on the given circumstances.

See the updated Veer Contributor rate card here.

Questions and discussion are welcome. Feel free to respond here, or email us at [email protected].

Cheers,

Chelsey
