Newbie Discussion / Buying and then selling back again
« on: June 04, 2014, 03:15 »
Hi folks
If I buy a photo from SS. Isolate subjects from it, put it in my own photos. Can I sell it back on SS ? While browsing I have noticed that the most popular photos are designer photos not "real"/natural photos. It's not too difficult to make simple fake photos and they'd sell much better than my own. Of course, there may be some laws against that. These designers who sell photos on SS, do they shoot themselves ? Just asking because people like photoshop designers more than actual photographers which means that the main buying public is not designers, it is normal people. Designers just take advantage of our cheap photos. They spend no money on equipment or travel, only time on computer and make something which sells better than our photos. I am so JEALOUS :)
Thanks for your advice

Newbie Discussion / Rare Bird Photo. Where to sell ?
« on: June 02, 2014, 04:58 »
Hello
I have till now a small port, 50 files. However, I have two critically endangered species of birds. Gyps Indicus photos aren't really available at any microstock site. This is the Indian Vulture or Long billed vulture, IUCN red listed. Unfortunately, this old photo is from a Nikon D50 at ISO 800. After denoise, it is soft. I sharpened it and looks much better. These photos are at Alamy/Getty. Getty has only 7, all are pathetic photos. Gosh, if only my photo were sharper but theirs seems just as bad to me. Probably there isn't a market for vulture photos, right ? I want to now put it on sale but SS won't accept (I won't even try :). Do you think Pond5 will accept if I write a note about the rarity of the bird ? Alamy has better photos of this bird than Getty, MUCH better so no use trying there !
My initial plan is to sell on Pond5 for $15-20, don't think I will get a buyer. Probably after 10 years when the bird is extinct !
What are your thoughts ?

Adobe Stock / Joining fotolia ?
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:32 »
Hello
In keeping with the sentiments on this group I haven't joined fotolia. I just started microstock 2 months back. 50 images online at SS & DT, 8 at IS (44 in pipeline). Do you think I should join fotolia or are they just low balling us ? Don't want to do something bad or promote bad people :). So far 6 sales at SS, 1 at IS (credit though).  I have bird, insect and couple of flower shots. I guess fotolia doesn't even like such images if what I've heard is true. So there's no point anyway.
Probably I should just stick to SS IS DT. I wanted to send some of my poorer shots in low res to them but people say their standards are higher than DT. Not funny for someone who owns DPC ! Perhaps I can send such shots to other low tier sites e.g. sell them for a buck EL at Pond5 (123rf ?).
Thanks for your advice
