123RF / Re: Uploading not working???
« on: August 19, 2013, 18:32 »
Ahhh, they changed their site from submit.123rf.com to ftp.123rf.com.  I was wondering why it was down so long without more complaints.

Now if a photographer wants to remove their images or negotiate a
higher retail price with these agencies then everything remains the
same.

In order to remove or negotiate, one needs to know *who* to remove from or negotiate with.  Unless you tell contributors which agencies you have a problem with, how can they comply?  So please provide a list of agencies you are concerned with.

Why not? The product is EXACTLY THE SAME on FT as on PD.
(there might just be minor differences in license terms, but I don't think it matters)

Of course it matters. The license terms are why an extended license is worth more. If people need an EL they'll buy the one that suits their needs if it's at a price they agree with.  If FT's EL terms are the same as PD's then people will go with PD, and FT will have to evaluate if their price is right.  That's competition and business.

Why do you blame the contributor for the pricing policies of the agencies?  If Toyota started selling sunroof options for 5% of what Volkswagon charges - would you blame the sunroof supplier? (let's pretend they both get their sunroofs from company X)

One tip- many contributors find that it's easier keyword their images offline in a photo editing program, then submit the images with all the metadata embedded, which our system automatically reads and plugs in.  If you do it this way, you'll greatly reduce the amount of time you'll need to spend editing within your Veer Marketplace account.

Hi Ryan, I do always upload with keywords already in the exif data.  The part I'm frustrated by is not in entering the keywords (they are read from the file properly) but in disambiguating them.  Thanks for listening and if you have any beta changes you'd like feedback on, just let me know.  I'd be happy to participate.

Veer / How do you find the submission process?
« on: May 02, 2010, 14:45 »
Hi - I'm finding it really painful to upload to Veer (especially compared to SnapVillage) and have all but given up because of the pain of submitting.  I was wondering if others find it difficult also, or if I'm just doing something the hard way.

All is easy until I get to the prepare & submit page.  Disambiguating the keywords is really awkward and time consuming.  First, if I am submitting more than 4 or 5 images, I end up having to scroll up and down between the thumbnail and the list of keywords (since the keywords are always at the top of the page). Secondly, I can't effectively edit keywords for multiple images that share keywords from the same shoot at once. Thirdly, if none of the disambiguation choices for a word are applicable I have to delete the word, which means opening the Edit menu, finding it, and removing it.

Having to individually click on each image to see if it needs disambiguation (and having to click it again after to uncheck it) is tedious too.

Is there an easier way to get through it?  Also the acceptance rate seems pretty harsh making it difficult to justify the time and effort to submit.

I'd like to know if it happens to still work for exclusive contributors. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't one more 'perk' they reserve for exclusives.

Well, you are wrong.

Fair enough - thanks for the info.  I guess my suspicion meter is registering a little high.

I wonder if this is another 'perk' reserved only for exclusives now.  Can someone exclusive say if IPTC data is being read when they upload?

I think the business with losing keywords, description and title is just a bug - it didn't used to do that.

I'd like to know if it happens to still work for exclusive contributors. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't one more 'perk' they reserve for exclusives.

I'm curious - when you join an agency like PSC you have to accept their contributor agreement.  Now they change "non-exclusive" to "partly exclusive" by just modifying the text on their web page.  Don't contributors have to "sign" the agreement again?  What do they expect to be done for images that are live on PSC that don't comply to the new restriction?

Sounds like they're scared someone will realize that they could have bought an image cheaper elsewhere and they won't be able to justify their value-add.
