Would love to be able to change the thumbnails. In many cases the auto-generated ones don't make sense.

So I logged in to the ESP site and looked at the royalties, and it just says this, "below"  am I not looking in the correct area of the site?  Not sure why it would just be .71 cents for a 4K video clip.  Thanks

Minimum payment not met and carried forward  Additional information $  0.71
Payment amount $  0.00
Currency exchange rate 100.00%
Payment amount (in payment currency) $  0.00
That's normal on Getty. Big buyers get this range of price as they pay some kind of fee to Getty (which contributors have zero cut ).

I am trying out Stock submitter for my video uploading and I already started to like it. I have all my files as mp4 h264 which are accepted by all but Getty/IS. The software can auto-transcode your h264 to whatever Getty is accepting before the upload.

Ill take another look at IS after getting my port on Adobe. Split about it as such low commissions dont bode well for the industry as a whole. Dont want to miss out though as things can change quickly.

On a side note - I really dig your website, congrats on the PhDs. Looking forward to following along.
Thanks for looking at the site. I just started getting a rough framework and will try to write more along our travel journey. I finally realize that travelling, stock photo or anything that interests me needs to have a record, just like a lab notebook.

Thanks for sharing @silvanalu - great looking port.

Wow - that is a lot of footage to get up in just four months.

It sounds like Ive been a little late to the Adobe Stock game, going to get everything up on it soon to start seeing how it does.

That was my experience with Pond5 overall - took a few months for sales to start.

Looking forward to hearing more about your progress in the future.

Thanks, I already had the material, I am uploading it to the stock plataforms... hard work hehehe. Pond is frozen since 5 january... I dont know if this fluctancy is normal...

About the prices... I am starting trying with 89 for 4k and 69 for HD, I would like to up more... I will see how it sell...

I Will share when I have more data.

If I can ask you: How were your 5th first months?

Regards!

Id be curious to see how your 4k clips sell at that price since theyre so close to your HD price. Pretty easy upsell it would seem to me.

The first 4-5 months on Pond5 were very very slow, but then it picked up quickly. There was a lull last year during the holidays so Im not too worried about it, especially as its picking back up now. Had another sale last night, so three in about a week:

Your port looks great as well, prett similar to the clip that just sold above actually ;) id expct good sales but keep us posted.

Interestingly, for me Adobe is the best too, though my port size is very small (100-200) on each site. SS follows Adobe, then IS, Pond5. I've only made 1 sale on VB.

Im working on getting onto Adobe ASAP - been hearing this a lot lately.

Is IStock better than P5 in terms of earnings? Are you exclusive there? I havent uploaded because of the low commission but would reconsider if sales volume makes up for it.

Videoblocks has gone totally dead for me over the last three months. Was getting a few sales before that. Well see if it picks back up.

Non exclusive IS for me is roughly on par with P5 or slightly better ( I dont have exact statistics) in terms of earnings. The problem of IS is the regular low price < 1usd that bugs me a lot. But there could also be high price downloads. Last statement I got a 115 fhd download. In VB, I just dont have the luck. I even received request from VB user about custom work( though I could not make it due to my travel plan) , but the download was just not going anywhere.

Thanks for sharing, nice port ;)

I am beginning in the microstock footage world, well, I stared in october, Now I have near of 1.500 clips in SS, Pond and Adobe Stock... I am sorprised that the best for me is Adobe, then Pond and then SS... I dont know if the sells will increase more with time... The people say that in pond the sells ups a year later... But I have sold some clips... my grows are in theese 3 months around 15-20 clips per agency, so more or less 5-7 clips per month, in Pond 3-4 (althought just 1 in january and 0 in february)

Sorry about my english ;)

Here is my port (is similar in the others agencies) https://www.pond5.com/artist/silvestregarcia#1/2063

5d4 is better. It has a much better sensor than 5ds, let along other features. 30mp is more than enough for stock.

For me FT>=ss >is >pond5>vb. I have been putting up clips since the end of 2016 (100~200 on each site). My contents are nothing fancy though.

RPD is getting good (1.26) this month.
Wow. That is more than twice mine. Are you exclusive or did you get some really big sales that increased the average? What kind of volume are you selling?
Non-exclusive. Got a couple bigger sales. But my port is small, fluctuations happen. Usually, I get much lower rpd. This year average rpd for IS is 0.85 for me.

Hard question indeed :)

I have only about 100 files, but Adobe Stock is doing fine. For me SS >AS>Pond5>IS>VB. For IS, since you will get those ridiculous 80cents video download, I don't contribute there anymore.

Great stuff! I need to improve a lot, that's a given.

Any free software anybody would recommend to start off with to post-process the video...then perhaps something that's inexpensive (I'm on PC btw)? Also need some ND filters...I have one for my 10-20mm but need one for my 24-70mm.

I would say LRtimelapse which is almost essential in my workflow for time lapses, especially useful for ramping parameters in changing light conditions. I started shooting some time lapses not long ago and managed to have clips online ( and actually sold some). You can see mine here. https://www.shutterstock.com/video/gallery/461209?language=en

I started putting some of my photos there since a year ago. Only got one tiny sale so far. The search ranking system is complicated (you can sponsor some keywords through traffic etc.) that I didn't spend any effort working on that.
here is my port.

I started uploading video clips about half a year ago but only managed to make a dozen files online. So far shutterstock made me only 4 sales, 230USD total. FT made me 11 sales, 350usd total. Pond5 1 sale, 35usd. Return per file was definitely better than stills, but my sample pool is too small to tell anything statistically meaningful.

You have a very small portfolio, but what you have looks very nice! You need to come up to 200+ to get any meaningful data. Right now your average is quite good. If you keep up the quality you could be making $5k/month from 1,000 clips.

I currently get a little over $2 per clip monthly, which isn't too bad I suppose. But it does take quite a while to make and upload 1,000 clips...

For me probably it was just a spur of luck. I don't expect the return per file to last. Anyway, I will be trying some more clips when I get free time later this year.

After installing the software I can't open it (Double clicked the icon on desktop but nothing happens, in Win10).

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is iStock worth it?
« on: March 24, 2017, 10:22 »
It is worth for me. They are very good at negotiating higher priced licenses. On average I earn more there per download than I earn at SS.
Are you exclusive? I cant believe an independent has a higher RPD on IS than SS once the compulsory PP and Subs sales are taken into account.
I went to look at my stats and surprisingly for me as non-exclusive, RPD from IS and SS are not that different. In Jan. the RPDs are 0.98 vs 1.0; In Feb. IS is 0.9 while SS is 1.5 because of multiple Single & other downloads. This month SS is around 0.6 because I have 0 large sale. So on average for me RPDs from IS and SS are comparable, maybe SS a tiny bit ahead. RPD from FT was lower, almost always around 0.6.

I just got a $3.80 sale at Adobe. Whats that all about??? its normally around $28

That's got to be one of the smallest amounts for video I've ever had.

Probably a 240p size download

I think the key is to have quality photos in as many subjects/categories as possible.

Seems that the reviewing time is greatly improved for non-exclusives. Tried a couple pictures and got reviewed within a day. Probably because of them losing contributors? lol

You won't get more from other sites because of your dropping iS, but you pick up dignity.

It's not about the camera but the work/time put into the footages. In my opinion ft or ss should allow certain freedom to adjust the prices. I started to shoot time lapse videos so I appreciated the effort in the shooting/production. The efforts needed for different subjects vary so wildly thus I like P5 when people can set the prices accordingly.

Some timelapses could be priced 39$ for 4k because they're low quality material. Full of flicker, uninteresting scene, "jerky movement" (not using ND filters in daylight), bad exposure (not using "holy grail" ramping in transitions) etc.

And some should be priced 399$ because they're well produced.

So a blanket statement like "timelapses should be priced x$" is wrong. The same goes for any type of footage.
That's why I prefer a contributor set price system.

Hello, i wasn't happy that fotolia offer for 200$ not only hd enhanced but also 4k, which other sites offer in standard license for that price.
I think it should be updated to match other sites.
But Adode go even further they offer all videos in extended license, hd for 79 for enhanced license, when pond5 offer extended for 149 itself.

$200 for standard 4K is very outdated pricing, I guess all major agencies will reduce it within a year or so. It's certainly not ok when your camera costs 5-7 times more than a clip produced with it.
