I didn't sign their NDA so I guess I can talk about whatever it might be (I don't really care honestly, I pulled all my good files from them last year).

My reply to Mr. Brennan:

If this is anything like that "exciting opportunity" last year that now has me earning 10-14 cents on virtually every download, then no thanks.

I was nice enough not to add the "KMA" that I was thinking.  ;)

Old, retired, battle-ax nurse here.  You know...the kind who would yank you up outta your hospital bed the day after hip replacement surgery saying "you lay down, you die!".  ;)
Maybe totally boycotting the Bass-turds was a bit too much to ask since so many lost their "real" jobs due to the Covid crap.  Don't even get me started on just how unbelievably evil that was!  Maybe instead we could try to convince people to commit to a "Shutter-shite Last" policy.  If you absolutely HAVE to upload new material to them at least commit to putting them last on the list, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, whatever.  Maybe the word would "accidentally" get out that most new files go to other agencies first?
I honestly don't know what to do about them.  I do still sell there (I wish I could afford not to), but deleted the top 25% of my port and in the future they only get "new" photos that don't sell anywhere else after a year.

I turned it off completely for a month.  All that happened was that I missed about $300 that would have been in my bank account next week.
I look at it this way.  If every SS contributor shut them off for a month and then deleted the best 25% of their ports, SS would be out of business by now.  I did my part and unfortunately it didn't work.
I'm probably out of the business for good anyway.  I don't see it as a productive use of my time in the future unless something drastic changes. It was great while it lasted, but the gig is up and I might as well grab a few more dollars on my way out the door.

I can't afford to turn off my port at SS indefinitely.  I've put too much time into it.  If the big players won't cut them off, then what difference will my 2000 make?
What I have done is gone through my whole port and carefully deleted all my new photos and my best sellers.  If I think it's worth more than 10 cents...delete.  I was surprised at how much of my really old stuff honestly just wasn't that good.  If I can squeeze a few more pennies out of it, then so be it.  I may change my tune next January and turn it off again when I see those pathetic numbers, but until then my new attitude for SS is #ShutterDump.   No new stuff for them ever...unless it doesn't sell at all at any of the other agencies for months.  I MIGHT send them a few underexposed pics of some corn chips on a paper plate if I get bored.
That might actually run them out of business faster than just deleting the whole port.

Exciting News! (For Us),

Since you idiots are content with accepting 10 cents per download, we have decided to implement our new, improved, simplified royalty structure.  Starting 3 months ago you will now be paying us to sell your images and video. If you have any questions, too bad.  We couldn't care less if you like it or not.  If you choose to leave there are thousands of new artists who will take your place and happily pay for the privilege of seeing their work on somebody's blog.

For any and all sales we will be charging you a percentage based on price per asset.  We can't tell you how much that percentage will be, but rest assured it will be fair (for us).

Bills for our services will be sent to your address on file each month.  You can pay us by check, paypal, or money order.  Have a nice day!

SS Team

I only have about 2000 mostly medical photos, but some of my stuff is pretty unique.  Today I saw those first 14 cent subs and I couldn't hit that "disable" button fast enough.  27 sales today for a measly $10.81.  If it's that bad at "level 5" I can't imagine what January would look like, nor do I want to. Nope, no thank you.  I'll leave my port there for a few months, but if things don't change I'll be deleting it.  "Don't feed the greed". That about sums it up for me.  I wish Adobe would offer us something/anything for exclusivity. I haven't seen this level of hatred for an agency since Istock pulled their shenanigans a few years ago. Adobe could utterly destroy SS right now and I'm rooting for them all the way.  Hello, Mat?

Still no code.  Maybe they are backlogged by all the people trying to "get in under the wire" before Dec 31st.

(Now I know how good it feels to view the iStock/Getty shenanigans from the outside, rather than being one of their serfs).
Me too!  I pulled my entire port in 2016 and haven't missed their $100/month OR their shenanigans one bit.

I hit 300 on Dec 9th.  Should I have already gotten mine?  Just checked my email...no code.   :(
I did an email search for "adobe" and their "get it for 2 weeks free" spam comes up just fine.   ;)

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock reviewers are idiots
« on: December 05, 2019, 15:58 »
It would be interessting to know how much reviewers are paid. If they touch flat rate for each image they can be tempted to rejecte simply because it is much faster than  review at 100% all details.
So maybe not so idiots, simply unprofessional and greedy like other SS staff...

I think that's why we get so many rejections for minute deficiencies in model/property releases.  Much easier to find some small erroneous detail in a paper release than scrutinize a photo.  "T" not crossed?  "I" not dotted?  5 seconds to push the "reject' button, collect a nickel, and on to the next....

It is getting beyond stupid at SS.  I personally hope that Adobe takes their #1 spot and soon.

I would be happy to see that too.

Martha, I seem to recall a similar situation just few years ago when a previously #1 stock agency started treating the galley slaves like they were disposable minor annoyances at best. I pulled my port and I believe that the #3 position is still too good for them.   ;)

Just be glad these reviewers chose a different career path than the medical one.  I just had them tell me that a Pneumococcal vaccine vial I uploaded yesterday is exactly the same photo as a Haemophilus B vaccine vial I uploaded 3 years ago. Different label, different keywords, different title, different smaller vial, isolated on white. This was supposedly an actual human "professional" curator who backed up the AI decision too.
So apparently out of the HUNDREDS of medications and vaccines that come in a vial I am supposed to pick ONE and only ONE to isolate on white with a syringe!
It is getting beyond stupid at SS.  I personally hope that Adobe takes their #1 spot and soon. They haven't rejected one of my medical photos for any reason in over 3 years.
Rant over.  Thanks for reading.

Interesting, left a review on Amazon for your art on a shirt?

Consider some other possibilities. Someone stole your art and sold it to the people who make the shirts. It's a POD site and they haven't registered the purchase yet?

But where you need to start is determine where they got it, then check the license or ask the agency, if that's allowed. I'd say having the agency go after someone is the first step... however there's a kink in that plan. If you have the same image for sale on "SS, Adobe, Alamy, DT and 123" the single agency probably won't go after the person, at least that's been past experience. Say it was IS. They only go after exclusive images, because of the difficulty in proving where it was downloaded.

Good luck I hope you get a good license fee for your work, it just might be more complicated.

Yes, to the review.  And they have to be a verified purchaser to leave one.

It seems that Amazon is taking this seriously, at least.  The listing is now "not available".
The other sites...not so much.  Interestingly, one of those other sites provided some sales information on their listing, (Tee Willy) .  42 sales of that t-shirt in 30 minutes!  At least, according to them.

License fee.  Not expecting to ever see a dime of that money they made (and are still making) off of my hard work.  I just hope that if enough of us make it difficult for companies like this, that eventually they will decide that it's easier to just buy the appropriate license to begin with.

Uncle Pete-
Well, at least one person bought it, because they left a review.  Whoever is doing this has these shirts for sale on 6 different sites.  I have filed a copyright complaint with each and every one of them.
The file has sold (1 or 2 sub downloads) on SS, DT and Adobe, so figuring out where this person bought the original file might be difficult.
I think I'll give them the generous option of buying an EL directly from me.  For $200.  ;D

Hey Morphart, and thanks for the reply.  I have that photo on SS, Adobe, Alamy, DT and 123.  I don't think any of them allow t-shirt printing for a 38 cent sub download.  I've searched the whole ad listing page on Amazon and I don't see any way to contact the seller or even know who it is.  I guess my only option now is to contact Amazon and file a complaint for copyright infringement.

Today I saw one of my photos on a t-shirt being sold on Amazon.  I've checked every sale of the photo on every agency I have it listed with.  No EL for this one, ever.  Isn't an EL required to reprint on t-shirts, etc?  I hate to cause anyone trouble, but we get so few peanuts for our work and this company seems to be selling quite a few of them for $25 a pop.
