Gursky has a lot of really impressive photographs in his portfolio.

This is not one of them...

Yes! Sign me up for my 7-day Free Trial Subscription with 5 images per day absolutely free!

I just discovered this on deposit photos... And now I understand why we get some many ''subscription'' sales... Hope they don't continue this indefinitely. My main job is have a graphic design company. Reading this, i'd say... Hell why go to istock, shutterstock, fotolia or any other to buy my images? When I have a need, I just need to go there, create an account, (fake or not) and download for 7 days... When it expires, we'll i'll just create another account...

(Mind I will not do it out of respect), but this won't stop others. At least we do get some small contribution for this but... I find it's a weird way to promote a site. Give hamburgers for free and you'll have 200 buyers a day... Charge 1.00$ and you'll be left with 25 buyers who are unhappy about paying 1.00$ since they got used to free ;)

Im a designer myself. I used the free trial on DP. You need to register the free trial with your paypal account and with a cc on that paypal account. So, its not just the matter of giving a junk email and registering an account everyday - you can only get as many free trials as you have creditcards  :P.

The problem as I see it with DepositPhotos is NOT the normal credit pricing BUT their offer to download images and pay by SMS for about 1 EURO (high resolution, no subcription attached). I tested that with Yuris images a while ago (http://www.alltageinesfotoproduzenten.de/2011/02/23/billig-billiger-depositphotos-warnung-an-fotografen/) and it worked. So maybe Yuri is getting a higher percentage in the back, but that doesn't stop this low pricing structure.

Yuri was informed by a fellow photographer via Facebook and responded, but no changes so far...

How far back is "a while ago"? Because (Im a designer) i have tried to get Yuri pics via SMS on DP and its not possible and it hasnt been for a while. That is, because he is platinum there and apparently platinum photographers are excluded from SMS. Again, i have found that out many month ago and asked DP why. So the "no changes so far" come across a bit strange...

@Gooner: My test was in the end of February and it still worked in March. Maybe he really managed to pull out his images of the SMS deal, BUT DepositPhotos does not mention anywhere that only some picture can be bought that way?

I dont know. Probably not. Its just the "no changes so far" bit, that you wrote yesterday, when your test was over half a year ago, that confused me a bit...

How long do you think they'll pay you for images they're giving away for free, or if you are being paid for all of the give aways. Surely based on this sites history you've got to be worried.

They did have a free trial for a very long time now and still have. And they pay for the imags they are giving away there too. So...i dont get the fuss. Its a promotion thing, that doesnt really effect photographers. At least not in a negative way. If lots of bloggers use it, they can use images at will that they dont have to worry about, since they get them for free and that the photographers get their pay for as well. So if i had a big portfolio there, itd be pretty chummed to hear about this.

Had a look at them and the site looks nice. Tried their search-engine and far too much generic stuff, no place for special or nieched material. Pitty really.

What do you mean? Arent their search results based on popularity? That would obviously mean, that the popular stuff comes first and you have to either look further for "sepcial" stuff, or specify your search accordingly. Or is that not, what you meant?
