You can make a simple experiment in order to optimize your portfolio. You can prize a part of it at low and other part at high, and to observe the results.

Is not the same thing. A 1500x1000 pixels image is not equal to a 3000x2000 px one. They save less than 1 $ when they download small images, but they do it. Thats means they are price-sensitive.

Pariseye, if you think so, I believe your market is macrostock.

Maybe microstock market is as ikea, low prices with great sells.

Problem is: Featurepics won't get more momentum with lower prices. They get more momentum with better marketing. Designers don't care if an image costs 1 or 5 or 10 dollars. The price is so low anyway, so the difference doesn't impact the project cost in any significant way.

However, the difference has big impact on the photographers, who need money for cameras and food, and Featurepics, who need money for marketing.

There's an ocean of difference between the microstock price of 10$ and a typical macrostock price of several hundred dollars. That's where the savings are for the designers.

But they download images at small size (and less price). Why? I think they are price-sensitive.

But if there is less traffic on this site why would you just settle for the same
amount? would it not benefit you to obtain a bit more to justify the lack of
sales? that image that just sold for me would take more than eight sales at
SS! IMHO less than 5.00 before rezise would simply not cover the trouble of having another place to submitt.

I just checked SS and I have had that image there since July. Earned only
.65 cents more there.

Is very easy upload images to featurepics. I loss a litte amount of time.

I think that cheaper prices will allow a featurepics momentum.

I have about 300 images at featurepics (about a month there), and three sales. My price strategie is the next: the price is smaller than others microstock sites because the comission is bigger, so I obtain the same amount. I think this is fairy for buyer and for seller.

Mi prices are from 1 to 4 $

Excuse me my bad english.

A program which you write several keywords and It will return you the tumbnails of concordant images in the microstock sites you want (eligible from a list of sites).

Excuse my bad english.

Very cool tool. Please don't let the ugly kneejerk reactions discourage you.
Whatever legal issues you have would be between you and the stock sites.
We can only express our opinions.
Again, cool tool.

I think so too. A very useful tool for who dont have english as native language.

My average per time worked is around 1,5$/worked hour/month

This number is the most important one, in the end...

If the return per hour worked really worth it... That is what each of us has to figure out with our own numbers and our own data.  And if that return satisfies us... Interesting...

How is this calcuated? Does this take into consideration that the image continues earning after the work has been completed?

If the image continues earning for various months, then I multiply $/worked hour/month by months of image life.

I dont know yet how long is the image life in microstock, but I supose almost one year.

40
As vector contributor, mi average per image is bigger, around 4$/image/month.

My average per time worked is around 1,5$/worked hour/month

They have chosen the best moment for being auctioned

With the big istock raise in prices, I would like to see the other sites raising their prices.  It doesn't seem to of slowed down istock.  I can see a lot of people going exclusive there if the other sites don't raise their prices soon.

A very strong reason for the other agencies.

Someone opinion about upload strategies?

44
FOTOLIA
PPD only site

I dont upload images there because the keywords must be in local language, and I dont want translate it.
What do you mean by that?  I upload to FT in English.  By default www.fotolia.com takes me to br.fotolia.com, but if I click on US Fotolia I am then redirected to the US site.  In fact I think I can even upload in English to the BR site, because when you edit the image there is a choice of language, but I never tried it.

Regards,
Adelaide

Maybe in Brazil. In Europe, fotolia redirect us to our local sites, and, in the national sites, you must write keywords in local language.

After thinking a lot about this issue, prompted by the concerns of Yuri and others, I have decided to pursue a strategy for my image uploads. My purpose is to maintain a sustainable income in the medium and long term.

The overall objective is to receive for each sale of each image an amount that compensates for the effort to create it, regardless the price for the buyer.

I assign three categories for images, depending on the quality and the time effort: basic, medium and high.

My goal is to earn approximately $ 0.30/download basic image, $ 0.80/download medium image and $ 2/download high image.

My strategy is the next:

ISTOCKPHOTO
Pay Per Download. PDP-only site.

All I can decide here is upload or not upload each image.
It does not interest to me became exclusive because I want to be free to decide about my work.

SHUTTERSTOCK
Subscription. SUBS-only site.

Upload only basic images. Try reduce the other images to basic images.

DREAMSTIME
SUBS obligatory site

The ratio PPD / SUBS (maximum difference in buyers price) is 10 / 1. In this case, the proportion of downloads PPD / SUBS is tolerable for the moment.
Upload all my images.

STOCKXPERT
SUBS optional site

Disable the option SUBs and upload all my images.

CRESTOCK
SUBS obligatory site

The ratio PPD / SUBS (maximum price difference) is 100 / 1. That means the proportion of downloads PPD / SUBS is very high.
Not upload more pictures.

SNAPVILLAGE
SUBS optional site

Disable the option SUBs and upload all the images.
Because I can decide the price of each image, I price at $ 1 my basic images, $ 5 my medium images and $ 10 my high images.

FEATUREPICS
PPD only site

Upload all images.
Because I can decide the price of each image, I price at $ 0,5 my basic images, $ 1,5 my medium images and $ 3 my high images.

In this way, I attempt to foster fair sites, as they offer cheaper my images to the buyers.

Actually I earn about 1,500 dollars a month in microstock. I will continue this strategy for at least 3 months and then value results.

The original thread is   Are things going well in microstock?
And there are two spin-off too, called    How to defend the contributor rights?    and    Which is the upload optimus strategy for microstock contributors?

47
Another idea for vector contributors: ungroup the icon set or object groups and send it to shutterstock as separate files. The basic idea is to obtain a more just pay for our work.

48
Another thing we can do: in sites which we can define the price (snapvillage and featurepics), valuate our pictures in order to obtain the same money for us. In this way, the images in friendly sites become cheaper for customer.

Yuri, if you need a designer betatester, Im your man.

Let's face it, there are very few companies out there that will change a policy just because it's the "right thing to do".

Yes, but the agencies depends of our work, not the inverse. They are only distribuitors. Contributors must get clever and defends their own interest.
