Yaymicro / Re: Third party sales
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:04 »
Hi!

I talked to Jan, and he said it should be out before Christmas.

Cheers,

Linda :)

Linda - Your post here says if you put up a banner in December, you are entered. In the email I got, it said "if you add an affiliate link and banner today". I have two questions. Okay, guys, don't laugh too hard. Sometimes, I need to have a picture drawn for me. LOL!

  • Am I going to be disqualified because my banner went up on November 30, not in December?
  • Do I need an "affiliate link" (i.e., a text link) and a banner, or does the banner suffice? The email said "and".

Thanks!

Hi!

You'll get it if you put it up in December - or today! ;) We add every link, username and e-mail to the list, making sure everyone get a change to win the iPad. The bonus should be on your account by the end of tomorrow.

A banner with a link is what we're looking for, the one you sent me was perfect!

Cheers,

Linda :)

Hi again!

Today we went live from beta. We've added a few new features, and tried to make the whole program easier to use. The commission is still 20% of sales price, and two tier sales are 5%. You get a $5 web-banner bonus, and if you add a banner in December you can win an iPad. :)

We've made a page that shows you images - read more about it here http://blog.yaymicro.com/2010/11/23/new-photographer-page/

If you already are a photographer at YAY you've gotten an e-mail about the program today. If you're not at YAY yet, you can read the newsletter here:
http://static1.yaycontent.com/pub/newsletters/affiliate/dm-photographers-launch-affiliate.html

You can visit the program here:
http://yaymicro.com/view.action?page=affiliate_intro

And if you have any questions ask them here, on our LiveChat, or send us an e-mail at [email protected]

All feedback is appreciated!

Cheers,

Linda & the rest of the YAY-team

Yaymicro / Re: link to yaymicro images with referral?
« on: October 20, 2010, 06:28 »
Hi all,

are we able to link an image from our website with referral link from yaymicro?

what i mean is to show the images with yaymicro watermark on my website and show it to a potential buyer that will help me to earn a referral fee.

there is a 'referral link' down under of pages in yaymicro but it seems doesn't work.

You can use a watermarked image for promotion of the site. Right-click on the image when you're looking at it in preview, and choose Copy Image Address. Then you just add the referral link.

Ex:

Code: [Select]
<a href="http://yaymicro.com/preview.action?search.id=86344&search.photographer=angietakespics&referredBy=Linda"><img src="http://static2.yaycontent.com/rz_512x512/0/61/61648.jpg"></a>

Linda :)

Be careful using the search box though. It has no affiliate reference.

We've fixed this, the new code is:
YAY! Search Stock Photos & Illustrations:

<script type="text/javascript">
   function clearField(thefield) {
       if (thefield.defaultValue==thefield.value)
       thefield.value = ""
   } </script>

<form action="http://yaymicro.com/search.action" method="get">
  <input id="searchbox" name="search.search"
  value="" onfocus="clearField(this)" class="txt"
  type="text" size="40" /><input type="hidden" name="referredBy" value="YOUR_USERNAME"><input type="hidden" name="search.first"
  value="true" />   <input type="image" name="radio"
  src="http://yaymicro.com/images/b_search.gif" id="searchbutton"
  alt="Search" height="20" style="vertical-align:top;" /></form>

As you can see you have to replace YOUR_USERNAME with your actual username.

One other question - I was just reading the part about the 20% discount given for our referral's first purchase. The way I am reading it, it looks like I am paying for the advertising, not YayMicro:

Thats the best part, you will be able to give customers a 20% discount on all our deals. All referred customers will get a 20% discount on the first purchase, no matter what they buy. This means youll make 20% less on the first sale, but increase the chance of getting a recurring customer. People love discounts.

Am I reading this wrong?

Hi!
We're both taking the cost of the 20%. We are still giving you a 20% commission on the sale, but the sale in dollars will be lower for both parts.

Ex: A sale for $120 without discount would give $120 in to YAY's account. You get a commission of $24, the photographers will get $60, and YAY is left with $36.
The same sale with discount would give $100 to YAY's account. The photographers still get $60, you get $20 and YAY is left with $20.

When a first-time customer returns they'll pay normal price.

I don't know, maybe I'm missing something. I would never have known about this new program had I not come here looking for something else. It seems a little silly to have to go to another site just to find out information about YayMicro. I still liked it better when the forum was where it belonged - on YayMicro. Maybe an alternative to not putting this information on YayMicro would be to at least send email to the contributors so they would know what is going on. For some reason, I'm not getting the notices from this site anymore, either. Not sure why.

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly in a previous post, Linda. Do referrals that we had before this program started count for anything, or do we just lose any benefit from them?

Thanks.

Hi LivingLife!

The program is still in Beta, and we're working on some design changes making it easier to understand how the affiliate process works. In addition, we're still discovering faults and prefer to fix as many as them as possible before going for a full launch of the program. When we do we'll make sure to e-mail all contributors, post about it at the front page etc. You'll also find a link and more information under your account (later, not now.)

The referrals you already have will join the new program, no worries!

Linda :)

84
Be careful using the search box though. It has no affiliate reference.

Oh, I'm glad you discovered this! I don't know how you'll add the referral link to it, but I'll check with IT and fix it on the page asap! If you find any other missing parts please tell us!

After feedback from users we'll soon update the program with more buyer friendly coupon codes, with a focus on the discount for the buyer - and not on the fact that you're referred.

Cheers,

Linda

Just wanted to inform you that our approvers are on holiday this week - but image approval time will be back to normal next week. If you have newsworthy editorial photos please e-mail us at [email protected] and we'll make sure to approve them before the queue.

Cheers,

Linda  :)

Update:
After request we've made a few changes:
Cookies will track your referral for up to 30 days. This to ensure that you actually get the referral credit for the people you refer. We have also changed the referral-input box. It won't show when you are referred, but it will be visible if you're not entering the site via a referred link. This to make sure that people don't remove referrals, and to make it easier to refer people without using links. (Now all they need from you is your username - they will still get a 20% discount.)

And to be clear: Beta is beacuse we'll improve the program when we get feedback. The commission and terms will be the same after the beta-period.

Cheers, Linda

Yaymicro / Re: Image Rejections at YAY
« on: September 20, 2010, 08:01 »
I had some rejected for beeing unsharp, but I know they are not - but I wonder.....

I never add sharping to my images as this should allways be done by the end user, as it otherwise ruins the image.Doe's YAY expect us to sharpen images before submitting?

I wonder if the chek the images at 100% - bacause if one do so, it very easy to se whats sharpend and whats unsharps and whats not.

Hi Nordlys!

If you can send me a file or two, high-res, that got rejected I'll take a closer look - and have a talk with our approvers. ([email protected]) We do not demand that you sharpen the image first, and the approvers check images in 100%.

Cheers, Linda

I thought they already got referral program in place. Do I have to change anything in my referral banners to be in new one?

You don't have to change anything, and the members already referred will continue in this new program. As for contributor referral - it's the same as before: 0.1 for each image downloaded/bought by a customer. You'll find answer to many questions under the Q&A. :)

FD: We think the people bringing in customers should get the same terms as the photographers bringing in the product. You get photo commission forever, and the same will be for our affiliates. And trust me, we're not going anywhere soon! ;)

We're adding a couple of new requested features tomorrow, we'll get back to you with details.

Cheers,

Linda :)

Thank you all for your feedback!

This only proves that the client either got the wrong license, or is trying to "scam" the prices down. I didn't think iStock would sell them this cheap, but in the stock world you'll never know for sure what happens. I do think both agencies and photographers, and many customers as well, agrees on keeping EL at a somewhat decent level.

General Stock Discussion / Extended Licenses on Subs at iStock?
« on: August 29, 2010, 11:49 »
We've been contacted buy a potential client, and he claims they can buy EL at iStock for less than a dollar, -if they maximize the subscription plan they have.

I find it hard to believe that iStock would sell their EL for so little money, and unable to find any information to support this claim I'm wondering: Do any of you know the price for EL when you buy them in bulk/subscribe, for use on a print-on-demand site? All I can find is that EL don't grant you the right to use images on print-on-demand sites, making this even more odd. I do suspect the client is using the wrong license from iStock.

There is no way we'll reduce our EL price to a dollar, but it would be interesting to know how low other agencies are willing to go on these licenses.

Do you have any experience with price and commission on EL?

Thanks,

Linda  (from yaymicro.com)

(Yes, we're a competitor to iStock, but I hope this don't exclude us from discussing prices & licenses. If you feel we shouldn't discuss this here, we'll refrain from it in the future).

I wish I could understand why my best selling images at other sites have sold zero on Yay for over a year. ???. I have uploaded zero new work even with the easy uploading there. Why bother? Am I missing something?

Hi louoates!

You've got a lot of good images, so I'm sure you'll to will see that sales are picking up at YAY! Given you have 270 images among 1,017,916 it's difficult to say when. You could try to get into our third party deal, if you're not there already.

It's also important to remember that we're a small agency, still in our startup phase. Some newbies might grow faster then us, other slower - but the important thing is that we're growing at a fast and steady pace! Still, I understand photographers who choose to not upload until they get satisfying results. (Although the satisfying results will come much faster if you continue to upload, as you'll get a smaller and smaller share of photos at the site if you don't.)

I hope you'll continue at our site, and I'm positive you'll see your sales pick up the following months!

Yaymicro / Image Rejections at YAY
« on: August 27, 2010, 07:39 »
Hi there!

We've just written a blog post about image rejections. You can read the blog post here: http://blog.yaymicro.com/2010/08/27/help-i-got-an-image-rejected/

We're always looking for ways of improvement, so if any of you have feedback to our team of approvers we'd really appreciate it! I'll make sure their supervisor reads this thread, as well as any e-mails you might send about the review process.

We've also made smaller updates to our list of rejection/explanations, you'll find it here:

Cheers,

Had a sale on Yay today paying 5 euros commission. But is this a sale or the 3rd party (2nd quarter) sales being added? We normally get an email when the results are in but I haven't had one. Nice commission if it is a sale but dissapointing if it's the 3rd party sales! Anyone else get this today? Regards, David.

Hi David!

Third party isn't out yet, but it will be in app. 2-3 weeks. Jan will notify all of you when it's out. If you got a 5 in commission it would be from a single image-sale in high-res size. Our commission is 50% on single images, - giving you  0.5 ($0.6) for small, 2.5 ($3.2) for medium and 5 ($6.3) for high-res images, and 1 ($1.3) on each downloads on subs/deals.

Yaymicro / Re: Closed Forum
« on: August 23, 2010, 08:08 »
I don't get why anybody should close a forum for spambots (if that's the real reason, of course). There are some good captchas around and if forum access would be limited to contributors with at least 5 images or buyers with at least 1 purchase, there would be no spambots at all. Surrendering to an independent forum where YAY has no control over (and where YAYosceptics can post too) might not be a very good business decision.

Hi!

We've decided to close the forum while we decide what to do (as you can read more about at the top of this thread). After 2-3 years there wasn't much activity, although we had a group of loyal, friendly photographers discussing and encouraging each other. Hopefully they'll continue their discussions here, in our blog etc. We'll try out this option for some weeks, and then decide if we'll fix the forum, or continue without.

Personally, I don't see any problem with an independent forum. The same people could post the same stuff at our forum as at MSG, as we don't sensor our contributors.  Of course, there might be a bit more skeptics here at MSG than at our internal forum, but we don't mind. Criticism is valuable and appreciated! (Ref. your post about our search (http://www.microstockgroup.com/yaymicro/introducing-myself
), where we'll hopefully discover a design or technical bug. Fixing this will improve the overall quality of our site).

Cheers, Linda

Sunnymars: review is normally done within 24 hours, Monday-Friday. If you submit during weekends, it should be approved within Tuesday.

jareso: Thanks for reminding us, I'll get Bjorn to fix something asap! We'll be looking at different solutions to the forum, as it's good to have an informal, public discussion.

It's the same editors, but I have gotten a couple of complaints the last week - maybe the summer heat has gotten the best of them?! I've given notice to improve the process, and hopefully we'll see an improvement this week. If you experience poor judgment from us, please send me an e-mail at [email protected], and I'll make sure to pass on your concerns!

Thanks, Linda

Hi Ivan!

In general well see a rise in sales in September, - July and August are the slowest months of the year in almost all businesses. December is also known for lower sales than the other months. More specific for YAY, we do see a high growth in sales in 2010 already more than doubled from 2009. We have several campaigns toward customers the coming fall, as well as the launch of a new and lucrative affiliate program. Were also working on an API.

For those of you who are part of our third party deal there will also be a rise in sales this fall or winter, as a new partner has entered the program. Im not sure about the dates and specifics, thats Jans main responsibility. Hell send out information as soon as its ready. If youre not a part of it you can read more about joining in here:
http://yaymicro.com/view.action?page=third_party_sales_program

The growth in YAY has been slow, but steady hopefully well speed it up a bit this fall!

Hi!

As some of you might have noticed we had to close our forum this week, due to spam bots. We havent decided yet if well aim for other channels of communication, such as this one, or if well try to improve the forum security technology. If you have any YAY related questions you can post them here at MSG, and well do our best to answer. Questions should be of general interest, not account specific.

Specific and/or important matters should be e-mailed us directly at [email protected] You can also e-mail us individually (linda@, jan@, bjorn@ etc.), but it might take longer time to get an answer. Well make sure to update our blog (http://blog.yaymicro.com) and twitter-account (http://twitter.com/yaymicro) regularly.

I wish you all a great weekend!  :D
