The industry standard for many years for the printing, graphics and publishing industry has been Mac.
Apple is expensive because their products last and the OS works. Most PCers I know have to replace their equipment about every 2 years because it, well, just doesn't run any more.
If you are doing a lot of spreadsheets and office publishing, Microsoft on a PC would suffice. If you are doing heavy graphics work and want to be compatible with most others in the industry, choose Mac.
I don't really understand why a Mac is more compatible than a PC, both use the same file formats etc. (for example if you use software from Adobe). A Mac gets just as slow after 2 years compared to the newer models. Speeed/ Benchmarkwise both are also neck on neck. It mostly depends on the hardware. If you have a intel i7 with enought ram etc. both will run very fast. I know a lot of people who change from a small Windows Netbook (200) to a Macbook Pro (1500) and keep raving about how much faster Mac OS is than WIndows Obviously this comparison isn't really fair. Stability is also about the same. At home i use Windows 7 and at the University only Macs (Mac Pros). Funny enough the Macs crash just as often/seldom as Windows PCs. Pricewise there also isn't such a huge difference. I build my own PC a few months back and hardwarewise it's a bit faster than the 27'' iMacs. I payed about 900. But most people forget that this price is withouth a Monitor. A similar monitor to the one's build into the iMacs also costs quite a lot!! In my eyes both the Apple and Windows camps are really over exaggerating. A Mac doesn't really run faster more stable or change the way we use PC's. Its Design might be nicer more user friendly?!. But it also isn't true that Macs are so much more expensive, since the Monitors and Cases etc. are of a very high quality (buy a PC and add an expensive case and an Eizo display etc. and you'll see). PS: For example software from Adobe runs practically at the same speed stability on both systems!

I'm also a huge dropbox fan. I have 3 PC's and use all of them for my University stuff. The sync works really well!

Well this line from the link should help out: "You can however specify a small period of time if a shoot is stretched over a few days. Certainly think days here, not several weeks or months. This period should be explicitly specified in the shoot date e.g. January 28th to 31st, 2012."
Why not sort through the "snaps" highlight the images you actually want releases for and and get her to sign a release for them - just remember to keep it to a few days (eg. release for Cape Town vacation shots, 5,6,8, 10 Feb) per model release, so you might still need more than 1 release, but probably a lot less than 30.
Yes i also noticed this. I'm just wondering how detailed the shoot description needs to be. Would ,"Cape Town Vacation Shots from 3-5 February," be fine? Until now i always wrote a more detailed description, for example: "Sunrise shoot at Clifton beach in Cape Town" etc.

Is there another solution that i am not thinking of?
No, just that you don't know of: http://www.istockphoto.com/article_view.php?ID=648&Page=2
However, the question arises, does the iStock collection really need a month's worth of images of your girlfriend on vacation?
Haha , who knows. Well, if they accept them and they sell then i guess so. Not all shots taken on vacation must be snapshots! For me this is a hobby at the moment and most pics are from travelling etc. and happen whenever i have time. I guess i'll just need to be more picky on choosing the right pics and get releases for these. Thanks for the link!

Hi, I was in South Africa for a month and took a huge amount of photos there. Most of them are snapshots, but some also suitable for stock. I'm uploading those to iStock at the moment and a lot of the photos are of my Girlfriend. Problem is that i would need a new release for each day, right? This is really frustrating me, since printing, filling out and scanning the releases in again just takes for ages (all this for a hand full of shots). Is there another solution that i am not thinking of? I would be extremely thankful for all kind of tips kind regards

I dont know Lausanne, but I was in Zurich, Basel and Montreux and have always found it exciting to be in places where I have never been before and found plenty of picture locations just walking around. Also if you have a chance you can shoot magnificient landscapes in the Alps or in the countrysides. I have no specific recommendations for stock, this will be up to you, but want to reassure that you will find motives from authentic to modern. Let us know when you are back! jean
Totally agree, there is more than enough to shoot!

wow that sounds complicated
i just have a spreadsheet where i track submissions and site earnings I don't have time to track individual photo earnings.
+1
I just use Excel. I have one worksheet for submitted images with fields for dates of submission, decision and the result for each image, plus keep track of the titles, descriptions and keywords which I then copy into the image file in PS. Next time I have a similar image I can copy and paste all of that information from a previous one and add any needed modifications. In a second worksheet I have a sales summary by agency with totals for each month, year, etc. I have a third worksheet for sales by photo, which I tracked for the first few months, but once I had more than 50 or 100 images it was too much trouble to bother so now I only record submissions and total sales.
is the worksheet with the sales summary a lot of work? Does it make sense writing all this info? What do you use it for?

wow that sounds complicated
i just have a spreadsheet where i track submissions and site earnings I don't have time to track individual photo earnings.
Also think that it sounds way to time consuming and complicated. I usually have a folder where i save my photos which are ready to get keyworded. Then i usually keyword them with Prostockmaster. After the images are finished i save them in smaller batches (with about 9 or 10 Photos) in new folders with the upload date. I then Upload them at each agency (mostly with FTP). After uploading i have a spreadsheet on google docs where i mark at which agencys it was uploaded, so that i don't get confused. I use google docs because i often upload from different PC's and it keeps the spreadsheet in sync (because it's an online office utility). It's a lot less complicated than it sounds But I'm sure i can also learn a bit, since i'm quite new at this.

Hi Dantheman.
There are a lot. I almost launch a new one that you can check your earnings of your microstock images in your mobile.
There are 29 agencies included.
You can check this link:
http://slideme.org/application/microstock-report
Have a good day.
Thanks for the reply. Ya this app looks exactly what i was looking for. Did you develop it? Is it available on the Market or just online on this website?

Hi, I got my first android Phone today, and was wondering if there are any good android apps for stock???

Well, iStock has the worst upload and also sells quite a lot And sites like canstock have a very good upload and don't really sell much. I think there are way more factors that need to be considered

This is what I can't understand. When I initially got accepted (before I could disable my account until exclusive obligation with other site ended) I had one sale with 10 images. Something must be a miss.
Funny, i also only started on SS about 3 weeks ago and had 10 sales on the first day. Now it slowed down, only have between 1 and 6 sales a day (with 190 pics). Yesterday was the first day without a sale for me

Ok, good to hear that i'm not the only one. Hopefully they'll fix this bug soon! Nearly every time a log in over the past few months, this site is displayed in another European language (I live in South Africa - so no reason for it). I just select English at the language selector drop-down. Never had any of my images translated though.
Just check with their help-desk about this, else, if I where you, I would just change my residence to another country with similar tax setup, but with English as default language.
Cool that your from SA. I was born and grew up in Cape Town;D

Hi,
I have already searched about this problem, but couldn't find anything.
Depositphoto constantly changes to the german site (because i am in Austria) and it's really annoying. The problem is that suddenly all my (english) keywords get translated into (bad) german and the whole submitting process takes a lot longer because of this.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Is there a way to solve this, so that it stay's on the english version of the site?

The port has 0 downloads.
There are only 12 pics and s/he only started uploading in October. That's not so surprising. I have to say that these are by no means the worst pics I've seen on iStock; and certainly not the worst keyworded, even by people who should know better.
Yeah but my point is that this stuff is being approved NOW. And I'm not even saying the photos are 'bad' - just that if a photo says "isolated on white", and it isn't even close - well, I found it a bit harder to get things approved, maybe they just didn't like me. And they have this burdensome CV system that I decided was too much work, but apparently the reality is you can just enter in any nonsense and it sails through. Who knew?
As much as I came to dislike IS, I thought they had higher standards. It just seems that this portfolio shows IS in complete disarray, with reviewers that aren't even paying attention, or are clueless. Or else this guy somehow scammed his way in.
I only started a very short time ago, but i have found iStock to be the most picky with keywords from all the agency's. I get pictures rejected because of keywords that actually fit (in my eyes). So really wondering how this guy managed to sneak pics with these keywords in.

So for an Update. I send in 80 images yesterday. Since i just uploaded the way i have them sorted on my PC, i uploaded the older images first. A lot of them being snapshots and not really sharp. Funny enough, over 40 of them were taken . best thing is, 5 of them already sold

So yesterday on my 5th attempt i finally got in.
Got 9 out of 10 pics selected
Thanks guys/girls for the help!!!
Sometimes I think they just want to make sure people are serious, and kind of like the drivers license test used to be around here, almost everyone flunked the first time, just to make a point and teach some responsibility.
Then there's the part about impressing someone new with the standards and making a point about NOT just sending in anything and hoping it will pass. This way, people are trained a little about what will pass and what won't. I don't know thatit works, because when someone experienced gets 80 of 90 failed, and blames the reviewer, I wonder about who's doing the pre-submission checks. LOL
Nice that you're in. Good luck and have fun.
Thanks, I also agree, it really seems that they only want people who are serious. But it really works. I improved a lot because of shutterstock Let's see how many of my other photos get accepted....

Congratulations.... reading this topic i realize i was somehow lucky. i got accepted two months ago at my first attempt with 9/10. A little tip for SS: submit all your images in the shortest time possible. new contributors have some sort of better placement in search engine for a month or so.
Thanks for the tip!!! Are you sure new contributors have a better placement??? Well,.... i was anyway planning on uploading about 200 pics in the next few days or so
