But they just rejected a submission of a few hundred images and gave me a timeout for a month from submitting which I think is pretty lame. From what
More than pretty lame. Alamy must have hired the photo curator from Pond5.

R.I.P. Stephen Strathdee (sharply_done) You are missed.
Yeah I saw that too. R.I.P. Stephen. Him and Hatman standout as people who really helped me when I was starting out. It's a shame he's gone.
There's gotta be an award for oldest thread revived. 2007, 8 years!
He was a smart guy. He lived local to me and we met a couple times for coffee and some shooting.

Paid downloads increased 22% and revenue per download increased 4% Image collection expanded 49% to 63.7 million images and video collection expanded 60% to 3.3 million video clips
This has to be a miscalculation with regard to collection size. I can believe it's an over last quarter or some other limited increase but not 49% and 60% over the entire collection size.

Depends. If you're just panning the camera or moving it subtly, it's pointless. I can do that by creating a simple video by moving an isolated image across the screen in Flash or iMovie. I'd save a lot of money.
The whole point of isolated photos is so that people can isolated your image and use it as a bigger part of a composition or use it in an app or website. I really don't see many uses for isolated on white videos since you can't knock out the white background.
I totally agree and not. If you're looking to truly isolate or cutout, then one of colour screen options is a better choice. Bright lights behind objects tend to flare and cause other contrast issues but if you're looking to create nice high-key clips then those might be worth exploring with lit backgrounds. I think it would be a good way to shoot business and lifestyle scenes.

Who in their right mind would still pay $5 to a local video store? Nobody which is why they no longer exist.
Off topic: I still rent from the video guy down the street. He's the last shop of it's kind in my area and he will close his doors once the lease is up. But still, it's a much nicer experience to go to this guys store. You get out of the house, talk to some people and support an independent businessman. It's good for the world and for me.

The best are the aggregates, Blend, Image Source etc.

They seem to have a fairly effective watermark. Is someone really going to do that much work to save $5?

Sales at Dissolve are actually pretty good for me, and increasing (since the price drop I make more),
This is my biggest complaint about the move to equalize at the lowest price. Those who haven't uploaded to VB lose out to similar lower priced clips.

I'm now thinking that if I'm still in microstock five years from now, I'll be earning around one third of what I earn today.
That sounds about right, and that's only if you keep producing.

It really made me wonder where that money was going, especially since he must have been saving a lot on expenses after letting most of the staff go.

I'm in a bubble bursting mood today.
plateau |plaˈtō| noun (pl. plateaus or plateaux |-ˈtōz| )
2. a state of little or no change following a period of activity or progress: the peace process had reached a plateau. My earnings have plateaued.

If its walked like duck for that past several years, there is very little chance its a goose once again. The capacity for hope among my fellow humans is very large, but so is denial.

I'm curious if people have a sense for what buyers think of the credit schemes out there. I was just looking around at some of the newer sites and everyone seems to offer them. I don't buy stock but they look quite confusing. A little like buying a membership to a fitness club.

Earlier this year I sold off all my Canon gear. I'd been a faithful Canon user since the 620. That's about the first EOS camera they made. I went to Panasonic MFT and couldn't be happier. There is always a tradeoff in photography but the gains I get from the Panasonic far outweigh those I do without.

Alamy is an old Gaelic term which loosely translates to anal retentive.

Imagine a ship like the Titanic, big huge hole ripped down the hull, sinking like a rock: the new captain just ordered the cabin boy to go down and stuff some towels in it.

I see a lot of fairly big numbers. The amount unpaid must be in the many 10s of thousands.

They will not pay. Craig used the contributors money to keep the site runing or maybe to start a new business. Who knows? Why do they not mentioned payments? Because they need to buy some more time and avoid being prosecuted by some angry contributors. If they wanted to pay us, they would have mentioned it in the site's closing message. They owe me $300,00. And that's means a lot for me in the economic crisis that my country faces.
$300,000? Three hundred thousand? You let it go far to long but now you need to get to a good lawyers office for professional advice on how to proceed.
I think that is $300 Europe uses a comma instead of a period.

Most contributors would declare and pay tax if they received their earnings, so if they spent that money instead of paying out, isn't the tax man losing out as well?
The tax man isn't someone I hold a great deal of sympathy for.

Mantis, I don't think this is a government greed thing. They have the potential to be quite dangerous and are proving to be just that. I'm sure the government would like to forget about them as they have enough to do. But unless properly dealt with, they will eventually bring down something a lot bigger than them.

Getty now requires drone pilot license and permits for any drone footage...
What happens if you don't have the appropriate documents? Could the FAA fine Getty? The UAV operator?
Google FAA drone fines. There are reports of fines up to $10,000. In one case they deemed posting a drone video on YouTube commercial use because of an ad linked to the video. In another case selling stock images of cityscapes was deemed commercial and a heavy fine was assessed.
That's what I was wondering. Thanks.

It will be interesting what that partnership looks like and if we will have access to retroactive payments.
Let me say that anything can happen, but if I were a betting person, I wouldn't put my money that happening.
