Mine are off 50% from last week and the previous months have been pretty steady.  So lets see, three long term independent contributors are seeing significant drops, and two relatively low volume/newer contributors are seeing much improvement.   I'd say that is pretty suggestive that something has been changed to encourage the newer independents to hop on the exclusivity bandwagon.  Look how great IS is doing for you now! Pie.  F5.

I might consider it if I was already at the Diamond level.  As it is I'm a good 5800 off of that mark, so 33,000 to go makes that a lot less attractive given that many of my iStock sales came in the earlier years.  There is no way to estimate how much your sales will increase by going exclusive, and there is no way to estimate how much your sales may drop by staying independent.  We simply won't know anything until it rolls around and we see how things change.

That's just how iStock works, sometimes changes are good, sometimes bad, and sometimes everything changes with no net differences in the results, but you never know for sure until it happens.  So ebb and flow, wait and see, F5, yadda yadda yadda.

I agree with that, image specific exclusivity would be very tempting on the iStock front.  I just think it would be too difficult for them to police, should some people be tempted to put similar but not identical images up elsewhere.  I think that is the main reason we see them sweetening the pot for all-out exclusives, and I expect we will never see the oh-so-desirable image exclusivity at iStock.  Its just too hard to make sure people aren't cheating with piecemeal exclusivity.

Dreamstime
    Sales    84 / 401
    Uploads    62 / 401
iStockPhoto
    Sales    49 / 460
    Uploads    38 / 460

I have never done too well on Dreamstime, though it started picking up in volume this year.  iStock and Shutterstock have both been going fabulous this past year, leaving DT at about 1/6th of my total income.  iStock is still my top moneymaker, followed (usually closely) by Shutterstock.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How it all adds up
« on: June 22, 2009, 11:36 »
I'm on pace this year to have added another 600 or so by the end of the year, but I've had several long periods where I barely uploaded anything.  Looking at this again, about 40% of my portfolio are people shots now, but 80% of those shots have been added since June of last year.  I didn't really take that into account before, but my sales have been up this year on all the sites.  Not sure if that is due to uploading a lot more new images, or if it is the fact that they are images of people.

Either way, I agree with you on the best month ever, June has been particularly good to me in a time when I normally see sales slide quite a bit.

General Stock Discussion / How it all adds up
« on: June 22, 2009, 10:08 »
So I spent some time today adding up all my microstock sales and earnings in the five years I've been submitting to various sites.  I've decided to go ahead and make this public since so many are secretive about what they actually earn in the microstock world.  Maybe this will shed a little light into the area.

Over five years I sold 37,143 image licenses through six agencies (IS,DT,SS,FT,123rf,StockXpert) for a total of $17,641.96, averaging $0.48 per license from a collection of about 1,700 images.  That puts my overall return per image per year at around $2.08.

There you go, not the best results in the world, but they've certainly paid for equipment upgrades and studio space.  Feel free to step up to the plate and share your cumulative totals, maybe it will help give people just starting out some realistic expectations.

Hardly any sales recently.  Its to the point where it almost isn't worth my time and bandwidth to upload photos there, despite a very easy and fast process to get photos onto their site.

259
Four more today, all XL.   I sent a note to support asking them to Cease and Desist :)

I got hit with another three subscription sales today, this time all from photos.com.   Let me know what you find out from support.  All but one of of the sub sales has been large sized of course.   :-[

261
Yep, same here, I actually came here to see if it was happening for anyone else.   When they first came out with the sub opt-in/out thing I tried it for a week or so but soon opted out.  I have had both the sub and partner options deselected (and they still are) for months, yet here I have a "Jupiterimages Unlimited subscription" download for $0.30 today.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Won't read IPTC data?
« on: January 07, 2009, 17:51 »
Just a heads up that it looks like iStock may have removed this workaround.  There was a cookie named iStock_DatacenterID.  In the past it was being set to a value of 2 by the upload page, and when you went to the forums it would set the value to 1.   With the value set to 1, the upload page is able to pull the IPTC information correctly, when it is set to 2, it does not.   The forums used to successfully reset the cookie value to 1, and it is no longer doing so.  I just tried removing that cookie and refreshing the forum page and it now sets the bad value.  So, I tried pulling up a specific forum, in this case the Help forum (Discussion worked as well, probably others), and it set the cookie correctly.  I was then able to go from the help forum directly to the upload page, with the keywords successfully filled in.

So, new workaround:   When you open your browser, click on forums, and go into a specific forum to get the correct cookie.   Then click Upload in the navigation bar and you should be able to upload (or edit previous uploads) with all your info showing up.

Ignore everything else posted so far, its nothing to do with the keywords in your file or not supporting certain versions of ITPC data, thats all a bunch of Hooey.   Hit the forums before you upload through the web page and all will be well.  Its a cookie related to the datacenter data is pulled from not being set properly by the upload page.  If it is already set correctly by the forums it works fine.  The info is in the Help forums on iStock.

You could try these guys:  http://www.photographersdirect.com

You would have to ditch all of your microstock though.

Just an update, the reply I received from support was that they were forwarding my termination request to the payment department.

Fotolia has still been selling my photos even after I terminated the agreement through their official method.

Beware, beware, beware.

StockXpert.com / Re: Late breaking news: New EULA
« on: August 15, 2008, 22:45 »
Looking at the grid they provide, it suggests that purchasing EL will be available on all StockXpert cross-content regardless of size.  I believe the confusion is just from the way they worded the explanation of sizes in their email.   Still, it would be nice to have confirmation one way or the other.

It covers my main objections, so I am considering opting back in.  Basically, the biggest concern was the EL rights under the old EULA and not being able to opt out.   Now the EL rights are fixed in both cases it definitely becomes more appealing.

I've got a ticket in to support, as far as I could tell you had to do them one at a time.  The terms and conditions says that they will remove them though, if the agreement is terminated, so I sent in a support ticket terminating the agreement.  Still waiting on their response.

I think you're right...but when I thought she was talking about the SSN's, I checked my profile at FT and noticed the SSN numbers are now obscured.  So...even if I did misunderstand, it turned out to be a good thing!  :)

I couldn't see a way to edit the SSN they already have, I would have preferred to change it to all 0's as you mentioned earlier.

I suggested that they allow a notarized statement (because then the notary has seen both the person and ID and signed) to be sent to them, but Chad turned that down.

I would be more than happy to provide some kind of notarized document stating my identity.  That seems to be an extremely reasonable solution.  Their rejection of that option, combined with their refusal to state the reasons they require our actual IDs, combined with their refusal to offer any kind of reassurances over the safe storage of information that could easily be used for identity theft makes me more comfortable with my decision.  Would a company that seemingly cares so little about their suppliers offer much aid if a legal dispute developed over a photo licensed through their website?

Oh good...I didn't realize they had finally obscured the SSN.  Thanks for the info, Joann.   :)

I think Joann was referring to blurring the ID number on the drivers license, not the SSN, but I could be mistaken.

I would suggest you contact Chad via e-mail - support is worse than useless - and see if you can ask him to help you out here.

Chad is the one who told me to delete my own portfolio if I wanted out, and that he could not make individual exceptions for me, since they have so many photographers.

I contacted support tonight and invoked Section 11, and Section 12b and 12c of the Terms and Conditions Agreement, wherein they agreed to, upon termination of the Agreement, remove my work from their website and pay any outstanding credit balance, minus the transaction fees stated in their payment rider, which should amount to 0 in this case.

It might actually be illegal for them to store the information the way they do.  I asked them to list the laws or other legal requirements they were attempting to meet by collecting my personal information, and asked them to describe the methods used to protect it (reasonable requests in my opinion) and they basically told me I was nobody special and
they had 60,000 photographers who didn't  have a problem with it.

Then they had the gall to tell me to remove my portfolio myself online as a response to my request that they remove it from their site.

I put in a request to support to see if there is a faster way than manually deleting them.  Otherwise its going to take awhile.  Luckily I had cashed out recently so they are only stealing about $100 in unpaid royalties from me.

I'm dropping Fotolia, as they refuse to accept my drivers license with potentially dangerous information removed (DL number, etc.)   They already forced me to supply my social security number, and to keep a copy of my drivers license on the same servers with my SSN is just begging for identity theft if someone hacks into their system.   I asked them to explain more about what measures they have in place to protect our identities from fraud and they refused.

Not sure what everyone else will make of this, but thought the info should be out there in case other people try to be cautious with their personal information.
